Good Review ! I just bought one at Office Depot on-sale for $179.00. I just do occasional printing, no faxing or scanning, but I can if I ever need to. I like that I can wirelessly print from my cell phone too!. I am saddened by Brian's comment below. I hate printers that do not print when one color runs out. My HP inkjet at work does and I thought this one would too. The good thing is, as you indicated, the ink cartridges are fairly cheap at $21.00 each.
Run it on silent mode. Mine is a year old, quiet & very versatile. I don't sign up of ink monitoring. Order when the cartridges are actually printing light. Don't waste ink this way.
I was searching for scan speed, you'res was the first one that showed me it. Thanks!!! I also scan EVERYTHING i get in the mail for my small business, and then even home insurance stuff, etc etc. I'm using a different HP, maybe 1 step down, $99. Not bad but looking for something a bit faster/better.
Brother's ink jet printers do the same thing as well. I purchased an ink jet, truly with much skepticism due to the fact, I highly favor laser because I don't have a great need for a color printer. However, due to a great sale, I purchased anyway. When the yellow ink ran out, despite Brother stating it will still function, it did not. I found cheaper cartridges on Amazon.
Curious as to your feelings on this printer over a year later. My HP 8600 of only 4 years recently died (failed printhead) and while I've always used HP printers, because of that recent experience, I'm a little apprehensive to get another. How's it holding up?
Please consider including seeing the printer in action. I would have liked to have heard how loud it is, as you state at the 4:56 time mark. I also would like to have seen the speed for a black & white printout vs a color printout, and, perhaps, watch a full duplex printout. Lastly, you were very enthusiastic about its scanning prowess. Seeing it do a scan would have been helpful, too. Overall, a good review. Thank you.
My HP L7590 finally bit the dust after over 10 years use. I'm interested in the 8720 and was curious as to how well your 8720 is still holding up and would you still recommend it?
The other con, as you will soon find out, as soon as it thinks any one of the ink cartridges is empty, it will refuse to print any more pages. Yellow empty and you want to just print B&W? Too bad, your buying a new yellow first.
This is normal for ANY ink jet. It is happening so nozzles will not dry out. Ink printer even when printing black only, use little bit of color to keep nozzles wet.
I had a hp officejet 8610 been refilling at Costco yesterday I had a empty cartridge and replaced it when I closed the printer door it said the cartridges were defective. Wouldn't even let me print in black & white. Costco said they just stopped filling the 951 cartridges at all their locations because HP essentially bricked the refilled cartridges. They had 8720 on sale in my area for $148.00 Canadian so I ended up buying that reather than spending just under 200 for ink for the old one. go HP are good printers but they are assholes when it come to ink way overpriced. They give away the printer and rape you on the ink.
I have a Brother all in one, and as has already been mentioned when one of the colour inks run out, it doesn't work. With mine it won't work period, I mean you can't even scan with it, even though a scanner needs no ink, WTF? But I don't print in colour, I use it mainly to print monochrome and scan. Then a few months down the line my colour ink has run out, and it turns out it's the automatic cleaning cycles that have used my colour ink, again WTF? So now I have it unplugged and only plug it in when I need to use it, which is far from ideal. I have a monochrome laser and use that for printing, and just use the Brother all in one for scanning. So basically I paid for an all in one and ended up with a scanner, and I bought cheap colour ink just so I could scan ...
Hey Frugaltech is there a way to select black & white print only on the print screen for this printer? my 8710 doesn't have this option. It;s hidden in the color options and it makes you select greyscale only. My father's 8610 has a little button on the main print menu for this and it's super easy. Looking for a printer that will allow you to select B&W only a lot easier.
Its so loud and really slowly. Can not use for cardstock that over 200gsm, it stuck always. I have to wait long time to print few nomarly paper and said goodbye after 2 months.
Good and a helpful review. Clicked the affiliate link, takes me to US Amazon. I am based in the UK. Though, based on your previous video, I will click the links in future.
Buying this printer here in México it costs 119 dlls, and cartridges ¡¡¡99 more!!! no thinking in 954XL cartridges... 165 dlls. I'd rather Epson ecotank, sadly there is not with legal size scanner and usb port.
Do not buy this printer, i had so much problem with the printer specially when the ink was gone,,, HP won allow you to use any black and white, they want you to buy the total 4 cartridges , and good luck with the price for that, it is more the the printer make sure you buy a printer with only 2 cartridges not 4,,, and i tried to call customer service , they will put you on hold for 45 m.
I have this printer for two years now. It is absolutely the WORST printer that I have ever owned!! I'm not just knocking HP, I've mostly owned HP printers. This one is trash! It constantly disconnects from wifi and I can't print without rebooting the printer. If you don't use HP print carriages, it won't print, unless you uninstall the HP software. It won't print envelopes at all! It goes to a multicolored screen and freezes up. You can't even turn it off with the off/on button. You have to unplug it. When it does work, it does "ok".

Well done, Bruce! Very concise review, audio quality was top notch too.

TAMIKA BIBB oh really

Crazy. My previous HP Officejet before the 8600 lasted over 10 years! It's a shame, really.

Thank you.
Perhaps i have a 8715 and can print at night with out worries, its has a quiet mode.
Good presentation but as a viewer I was expecting to see some photo and text prints, and hear how loud it sounds as you were talking.
Just purchased this printer off amazon for 102 dollars. Never purchased a printer / scanner before, so I'm pretty exciting.
Congrats. These are excellent printers

that's been my experience too.
Brian Weaver That's not unique to HP. My Epson printer is the same way.
My Epson Workforce did the same thing

Mine has frequent paper jams and now have a printhead error. Just over two years old.
Very curious on how you got the black version and not the white ?!
