Another SRK movie to watch is: Darr in which he portrays an obsessed lover, almost a bit of a psychopath. Its also a movie which arguably announced the KING's arrival in the industry!!
@Z L u have literally copied pasted this reply on every comment I think 😂😂 one patreon hater spotted! Dude stop paying them for hating them.. that's too sweet!!
One of the best scenes and my Personal Favorite scene is When he drinks the water after buying it from the kid on the station, that scene is the essence of the movie. If you have noticed he has been drinking water from water bottles, it is considered "Hygienic" (we Indians have pots of water at our home we drink from that and don't use bottled water), but when he was returning after meeting the farmer, he drank that water which is supposed to be "Unhygienic" for him, he understood the essence of his being INDIAN, his roots, that he belongs here, that he is made in India.! He realized that and It changes him. That is the main reason he came back at the end, love is not the main reason he came back. It calmed his soul when he came back because "India is calling" that I belong here. And that is the purpose of the movie. It's an emotion about the Country.
RICK, This comment is for YOU! If you want to watch SRK in something like Haider, watch his earliest films DARR, BAAZIGAR, ANJAAM, DIL SE and FAN to an extent. You'll SAY it for SURE without any doubt that he's the best "acting" SUPERSTAR ever. So watch these films whenever you feel like.
My favourite scene is the one where he drinks water from the kulhad(small earthen pot) sold by the young boy. Throughout the movie till that point, he was shown to be finicky about drinking water from a bottle only. That scene, the music, the acting all gels so beautifully together.
This movie is a masterpiece. You could literally see the character changing according to conditions. 1. From using more english words to using difficult hindi words. 2. From drinking only mineral water to buying a cup of water at station.
I was so connected that I desired to work for ISRO after watching this movie, but I hated physics all my childhood so what the hell. 🤷🏻♂ . I'm a doctor now by the way..

my favorite scene is the one where SRK is shown lying down on a make shift bed looking at the moon having a realization of the hardships people face here.
It's so interesting that Korbin sees this as a happy ending, because to me it has always seemed bittersweet. I remember feeling so unsettled by the ending as a young student who aspired to study abroad and maybe continue living abroad after too, because it seemed like he had to make a very tough choice between his aspirations and his sense of home. And like Rick said, those aspirations became insignificant because he would never be the same again after those experiences in India, and he had to go back. But I don't think that means the man won't regret anything in his life and all the complications are resolved. I imagine it would be so easy to become bitter, and to regret leaving NASA and the US in a few years, and to blame Gita and Kaveriamma for it. I think the movie hit home really hard for diaspora audiences that permanently live on the threshold of these two extremely difficult choices. I've watched the film multiple times since moving to the UK two years ago and it is so much more painful now. I literally start crying at the scene when he first sees India from the airplane! 💔 It makes me so, so happy to see how much you guys loved the film and especially the personal connections that resonate for Rick. This has been my one and only suggestion since I found this channel back in February and I was so nervous to hear what you guys would say (not that it would invalidate how I feel about it, but I just desperately wanted you guys to like it!). Just makes me realise how much we all value your thoughts and perspectives on things that matter to us. ❤️ This channel is probably the best thing that has happened to me in 2019. Sorry for this long essay-comment, I just had a lot of feels to express haha!
I wouldn’t call SRK an underrated actor, he is currently the actor that holds the most awards for best actor, I believe he has won the best actor award 12 times.
most of the awards he won are media awards with little credibility, and his tendency to over express, especially in emotional scenes is a big hinderence to playing subtle, silent roles which doesn't help his acting range as well. In this movie i thought he was great though. He didnt overact by put unnecessary twitching of the eye brows or tearing up when it wasnt needed - he was there as a character, just a normal man, easily relatable. This role in swades was his best performance ive seen him do and should have won him that years national award. Sadly he didn't, I'm not sure what the jury saw in saif ali khans hum tum lol
@Chris he has no academy awards to his name and neither any golden globe of which i am aware. Even in india, he is known more as a romantic guy than a serious actor. So yeah a bit underrated i guess considering his calibre.
So well said - SRK is the biggest actor and yet so underrated. Brutal public has even made him doubt his own acting, which should never happen to someone like him.
Hi, loved the review. The movie is inspired from the life of Mahatma Gandhi (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi). How he lived outside in his youth, came home and felt social imbalance and in the end devotes himself into the service of his people. SRK's character was also named 'Mohan' because of it. That's why he returns to INDIA in the end.
You actually bring up a very valid point with SRK. I do think he needs a movie like Haider. I think most of us will agree that he has the acting chops. He has a theatre background and an immense emotional tank like you mentioned. I think (being a hardcore fan), he is going through a metamorphosis at this time. He has tried to dabble in niche things like Fan, Ra.One and his performance was always great, but the movies did not do so well. I think the main issue is that his superstardom works against him. Hear me out. For aamir khan, ever since Lagaan, his unique selling point is versatility, so when he does a Dangal or a PK it is expected. SRK has always been the lead, be it romantic, action or dramatic and stepping out of this set zone is quite challenging. I genuinely feel like he himself (from his interviews recently), really wants to do different things and very out there concepts. I think a director like Vishal Bhardawaj might actually bring that out of him. Given where we are as an Indian movie industry in 2019, this may be the perfect time to try this!
I think if you looking for something Haider like performance than may be you can go for some of his negative roles Bazigar, Darr. But they have cheezy 90s stuff too 😜
He is first a great actor then a Superstar.. He shouldn't say himself as less talented.. All the new generation actors says they became actor bcoz of him.. Otherwise he wouldn't have so many awards to his name..
Korbin, the end of the movie had to be what it was because it's based on a true story in which the NRI actualy returns to India. Also India has ISRO and if you watched the movie carefully there is a scene where Srk tells his colleague in NASA about joining Vikram sarabhai space center in India so nothing in the movie was irresponsible.
a gentle suggestion to make movie reviews better: include a collection of "dialouges/scenes/songs/best moments" at random intervals in the video, it'll cause to have a guaranteed positive impact on the projected audiences
Shahrukh missed his most potential national award for this movie to a non worthy Saif for Hum Tum that year....just because Saif’s mom was the board chairwoman that year...
Epic movie!! Totally agree with your reactions, this was one of the best performances of SRK. Every actor acted brilliantly and naturally Although, i would have agreed with korbin about the ending part, but for this particular movie.. this ending was just perfect.
One of the best shots of the movie is when he wakes up from his sleep and dreams about stepping into pond. It's when his feet touch the carpet, he comes to know that he is not in his hometown. As a person who has been born and brought up in Delhi away from my hometown(kerala), the shots in the movie transport me to my old memories when i used to visit kerala during my school vacations. After the vacations when we travelled back to Delhi, many times as a kid, i used to forget the fact that i was no longer in my hometown. Opening my eyes from sleep; subconcsiously expecting the roosters to crow, birds to chirp near the window, the wood smoke coming out of grandmother's kitchen, the sound of broomsticks from courtyard. Man.... but i can't leave delhi as well.... man what a dilemma.
I agree with Rick. The movie ended at the right place. Korbin's right about people taking practical decisions a lot of times which is why we need movies to remind us and inspire us to look beyond the convenient. Sadly, in real life these choices are very difficult to make. Hence, movies, to remind us of the sweetness of romance that lasts, whether with an idea or a person.

Korbin is so one dimensional...i respect his perspective that everything in the world is chaotic and everybody in the world is a potential psychopath and that a joker like character should be worshipped only they have the best stories to tell....but applying all his cynic philosophies into movies that he is reviewing is so unprofessional, there are great stories with positive endings like perseverances of scientists and social workers and freedom fighters that ended doing great things to humanity by fulfilling their vision, whats wrong in wrapping up some stories with a bow, The cosmos is one never-ending story following a sinuous path of happiness and sadness with infinite sub-tales , one can be happy and other can be sad, if you can't grasp that as a so called movie enthusiast than stick to your genre of interest and stop being a pseudo movie critic.

@@MOON-yn8ec well you either you didn't read my comment properly or didn't comprehend it fully...that's why i said universe is a never ending story following a sinuous path of constituent sub-tales or plots, and each movie represents those smaller stories, be it optimistic or cynic in essence. Or Bhaag Milkha bhaag where you'll get acquainted with Farhan Akhtar and see what a genius monster he is, and also about Sikhs and Partition of India.
One of my best moments, specifically being Indian i can relate to was where srk says India is not the best country but it has the ability to be and also later explains.
DARR! That is the movie you should watch to see his Haider type of intensive character, although it is much better than Haider. Also Baazighar and Anjam..These were first few of films he acted in, and sort of negative or dark shade character which at that point of time was considered as risky for mainstream actor(hero) to play
At the same year (2004) SRK's movies "VEER ZAARA" and "MAIN HOON NA" came out. Two movies I really love. They were superhits or blockbusters (and especially "Main Hoon Na" is a lot of fun to watch! :)
This movie is based on true story and the guy did come back to India. I think it's all about the priorities. There are many great people in India, who despite being highly educated sacrifice high paying jobs, lavish comfortable lifestyle and devote their life to betterment of underprivileged.
In terms of bigger impactful ending, korbine you are right to show that rnd where he just leaves and it finishes there.... But whole movie they have shown the transition in the character of Shahrukh... So it was important that he takes a final call for life that's justice to his character in the movie and that's why this character is lead of the story. Any character being in center of the film, always has something different in him then rest people either to learn from it or to not learn from it at all... Center roles are never very regular as rest of the world and that's where there is a point to write a story about them.

I bet you didn't notice young Aamir Khan in this movie.😉 The youngest kid in the movie(Yaadon ki baarat) which was being played in the village.
Another SRK movie to watch is: Darr in which he portrays an obsessed lover, almost a bit of a psychopath. Its also a movie which arguably announced the KING's arrival in the industry!!
What do you mean by almost a bit of a psychopath? He WAS a psychopath in the movie. 😀
SRK was a pshycopath in the movie..😂
"Fan" ...just saying
I watched Swades few months back after coming to US. And the movie hit me emotionally, I can't wait to return back to India

Raees also..
Yeah especially DARR
Don & Don 2 also...but Baazigar and Darr are awesome dark movies of SRK
Please watch Darr
@Z L Can you please tell me in which video they have been disrespectful? I think I missed it.
My favourite scene is the one where he drinks water from the kulhad(small earthen pot) sold by the young boy. Throughout the movie till that point, he was shown to be finicky about drinking water from a bottle only. That scene, the music, the acting all gels so beautifully together.
Korbin be like : I pulled a sneaky one on y'all
This movie is a masterpiece.
You could literally see the character changing according to conditions.
1. From using more english words to using difficult hindi words.
2. From drinking only mineral water to buying a cup of water at station.

Guys it time you guys watch BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG! Beautifully made movie ! One of the greatest sports biopics
my favorite scene is the one where SRK is shown lying down on a make shift bed looking at the moon having a realization of the hardships people face here.
It makes me so, so happy to see how much you guys loved the film and especially the personal connections that resonate for Rick.
Sorry for this long essay-comment, I just had a lot of feels to express haha!
wow just wow
I wouldn’t call SRK an underrated actor, he is currently the actor that holds the most awards for best actor, I believe he has won the best actor award 12 times.
15*
most of the awards he won are media awards with little credibility, and his tendency to over express, especially in emotional scenes is a big hinderence to playing subtle, silent roles which doesn't help his acting range as well.
Yes.. but as his persona is huge ppl remember him as a star..he is the finest actor though
@Srushti Oza lol you man are dumbfuck.. he is the finest..swades veer zaara chal de my name is khan darr
@Chris he has no academy awards to his name and neither any golden globe of which i am aware. Even in india, he is known more as a romantic guy than a serious actor. So yeah a bit underrated i guess considering his calibre.
You guys do the best movie reviews!!
He is a very expressive emotional man
He’s underrated because of the kind of stardom he has
So well said - SRK is the biggest actor and yet so underrated. Brutal public has even made him doubt his own acting, which should never happen to someone like him.
Just watch darr !! You'll get what you want
Rick is just phenomenal doing movie reviews !!! He is the best reviewer ever !!!!
Raj Oberoi 😘😘😘
Yep. Since andhadhun, he is been spot on
You guys should watch Darr or Bazigaar next to understand his capability as an actor.

Person who portrays farmer role is renowned theater actor. His name is Bachan Pachehra.
Korbin .... have u ever heard LIFE NEVER STOPS???? It finds ways. If u r happy about what u do then nothing else matters.
I m very happy that u liked the movie. My late grandfather has written its dialogues
Wow👏
Wait what?
SRK is my favorite actor from childhood!
Fuck off....this is not true any way....ashutosh gowarikar told its based on NRI.
The Ace of Swades, finally!
Now that you have watched Swades, it's the perfect time to watch Kal Ho Naa Ho and Dear Zindagi. You are gonna love those movies!
Caste system is still there. It's not obsolete, and some might act as though it's not a problem, but it is. Even today. Even in our own houses.
The problem is ppl dont accept it.
Caste system exists in every religion and culture on this planet sadly. However the solution that I see is education of dharma and equality.
Yeah caste system in Hindus is so deep rooted.. even the educated and independent people have to follow it cuz of the family and societal pressure..
Ok
Cool
a gentle suggestion to make movie reviews better: include a collection of "dialouges/scenes/songs/best moments" at random intervals in the video, it'll cause to have a guaranteed positive impact on the projected audiences
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS THIS IS MY FAV MOVIE EVER THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS FESTIVE SEASON BETTER 😍😂😂😂
what a irony !!! Even I saw this movie yesterday for first time !! Kind of felt ashamed for what I have been missing all these years.
I have to watch this film again, it’s been years. I do remember it being good.
Shahrukh missed his most potential national award for this movie to a non worthy Saif for Hum Tum that year....just because Saif’s mom was the board chairwoman that year...
Saif got for om Kara too but you are right it's not as good as srk in swadesh
A recommendation for Korbin, watch “Lootera”.
You're right. Lootera is a must watch.
Epic movie!! Totally agree with your reactions, this was one of the best performances of SRK. Every actor acted brilliantly and naturally
Although, i would have agreed with korbin about the ending part, but for this particular movie.. this ending was just perfect.
Nice review. Please review Vanaprastham next🙂
Korbiin is sadistic. always want sad endings
You didn't react to the train scene... with the lil kid selling water.. that's a pretty famous scene

I agree with Rick. The movie ended at the right place. Korbin's right about people taking practical decisions a lot of times which is why we need movies to remind us and inspire us to look beyond the convenient. Sadly, in real life these choices are very difficult to make. Hence, movies, to remind us of the sweetness of romance that lasts, whether with an idea or a person.

this is why i love rick........ he is so open to everything and embraces everything that comes his way......... little did he know back then that the channel would grow so much .......... but he just surrendered himself, observing the little things about india and its culture and embraced it the way it is......... this is why the stupid babies love you ........ i have become your life long subscriber

firstly there is a big difference between being offensive about something and being unaware about something ......... plzzz understand that they are americans not indians ..... they are not aware about some things about india ........even if they seem to be offensive towards something it happens due to being unaware (again they are americans)
You are the exact opposite of rick ..... he is open minded (he welcomes your hate towards the channel as well with an open mind)...... whereas you seem to have dark matter instead of grey matter in your brains ......... try to embrace the love bro instead of spreading hate
Z L
I dont understand what is your point ...... what got you offended......these are just two ordinary american people reacting to indian stuff..... this is not propaganda against anybody ...... why do u take this so seriously for no reason at all....... just sip on ur chai and enjoy the vid or if you dont like the vid u r free to not watch it ....... but you have so much free time to comment and argue and ask for apology for such a small thing. As for the comments being disabled i am sure they must have done it for a reason.

Loved the review. There's lot to takeaway from this movie. My top-3 SRK movies are Dil Se(for me this was his best performance), Swades, Veer Zaara.
Korbin would have ended avengers with stones in thanos hand 🤣🤣
Swadesh is one movie where Sharuk Khan is not the Sharuk the Start, this is the only movie he is an actor ,performer ,no over acting , no melodrama rather pure emotion, it's all because of Aushotish and this an adaptation of a book ,that is why it's so good 😊😊😊
I just watched Swades and came here to watch the review ❤ by the way i cried a lot of time while watching this phenomenal film ❤
Oohhhhhhh Korbin out here rocking the iconic dad sweater
Nice review guys..have been waiting for this..i was expecting Rick to connect more to this movie and i am glad he did.. by the way, other than the songs how was the background score from A R Rahman..? How was the train scene?
Next SRK movie you should watch for his acting is Darr, Kabhi haan Kabhi Na, Kal Ho Na Ho, Don..
There was controversy during the official entry for Oscars. Paheli was considered an odd choice for 2005 entry to Oscars. Swades & Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black were the other two films which were competing for the spot.
To watch SRK in an amazing acting role where he has to display immense emotion, id say to watch DIL SE, an amazing film that you’ve reacted to many songs from !!!
This is my all time favourite flick. I am so thankful that you guys found it so...... good because you guys have got the real taste of India. I love you guys
Korbin is so one dimensional...i respect his perspective that everything in the world is chaotic and everybody in the world is a potential psychopath and that a joker like character should be worshipped only they have the best stories to tell....but applying all his cynic philosophies into movies that he is reviewing is so unprofessional, there are great stories with positive endings like perseverances of scientists and social workers and freedom fighters that ended doing great things to humanity by fulfilling their vision, whats wrong in wrapping up some stories with a bow, The cosmos is one never-ending story following a sinuous path of happiness and sadness with infinite sub-tales , one can be happy and other can be sad, if you can't grasp that as a so called movie enthusiast than stick to your genre of interest and stop being a pseudo movie critic.
venom hope 👏👏👏
Somebody took a deep dig... appreciate ur opinion....but don't categorize or generalize with those aspects....stuffs change in time frames regardless how they appear
@@MOON-yn8ec well you either you didn't read my comment properly or didn't comprehend it fully...that's why i said universe is a never ending story following a sinuous path of constituent sub-tales or plots, and each movie represents those smaller stories, be it optimistic or cynic in essence. Korbin as an audience want movies to follow one single route...someone who does movie reviews on daily basis needs to open his mind to all kinds of concepts, simply put, critically analysing an art is not everybody's cup of tea :Korbin without Rick by his side is completely incompetent

Please review Masaan. Guaranteed, U won’t be disappointed.
One of my best moments, specifically being Indian i can relate to was where srk says India is not the best country but it has the ability to be and also later explains.
Not until u watch DARR, FAN & OM SHANTI OM .... than u can conclude u finished SRK subject lol..
DARR! That is the movie you should watch to see his Haider type of intensive character, although it is much better than Haider. Also Baazighar and Anjam..These were first few of films he acted in, and sort of negative or dark shade character which at that point of time was considered as risky for mainstream actor(hero) to play
When they say Shahrukh Khan in starting.... In caption it is written as GOD.. SRK is truly the god of acting...
abhinav pandey really fuck SRK
Beautiful review by you both. Rick you made me cry. So genuine and honest with attention to detail.
My next recommendation would be DON! You’ve seen him be sweet, performing challenging roles... so you should see his other acting abilities.
At the same year (2004) SRK's movies "VEER ZAARA" and "MAIN HOON NA" came out. Two movies I really love. They were superhits or blockbusters (and especially "Main Hoon Na" is a lot of fun to watch! :)
This is SRK's best role by far. For once we could see him as a common man who isn't trying to be something on screen.
Watch some dark sided characters in DARR ,FAN , Bazigar,Anjaam,Don1 &2,Raees
Great review guys. I think Dil Se and Om Shanti Om are the biggest essential SRK films you should watch next.
Seems patreon🙄
This movie is based on true story and the guy did come back to India. I think it's all about the priorities. There are many great people in India, who despite being highly educated sacrifice high paying jobs, lavish comfortable lifestyle and devote their life to betterment of underprivileged.
What Indrani said is correct but I’m so glad that I had good taste even then and I watched this movie in the theatre 3 times 😅
