First Thoughts on Morocco | Exploring The Streets of Marrakech

  • We have said goodbye to the UK and flown all the way to Morocco for the very first time! Very excited to be here - these are our first impressions!
First up we left London Heathrow to fly British Airways for the first time towards Marrakesh. Upon arrival our Airbnb host organized a hotel transfer for us (which we highly recommend doing).
The next day we explored the streets of Marrakech, going into the Medina and markets to try and attempt to do some shopping and enjoying a quiet Friday afternoon in the Jemma El Fna.
To end our first few days in Marrakech we did a tajine cooking class.

@@nataliagarza779 Please! educate yourself before saying somethings on youtube ... In Morocco, there are only two official languages "Berber (Amazigh) and Arabic (Moroccan Arabic)". Berbers (like me) represent between 55 and 65% of the Moroccan population and they are the indigenous people of Morocco since the Prehistory time. Berbers and Arabs are two totally different ethnicities (it's like the Indians of America and the Anglo Saxons or the Spanish conquistadors and the pre-Columbian peoples etc ...) and we have our own language, alphabet, customs, traditions, cuisine, cultural code and our own calendar (2968 years) etc ...

    • @sikoukatsura1967
      @sikoukatsura1967 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

@@nataliagarza779 Morocco has never been colonized by France
it was only a protectorate (see definition) and it is totally different from a colonization. Spain also never colonized Morocco, it was only a protectorate and it was only in Western Sahara (southern Morocco)
Ps: in north africa only algeria has been colonized by france
For finish not all moroccans speak French, only educate people or who have a high level of study speaks French, the others (the majority) they use a few words here and there but do not master it totally.
The second category of moroccans who speak fluently french are people who work in the area of tourism, business, administration ... Or those who live in tourist or westernized cities like casablanca or rabat
Also Moroccans who speak spanish are some who live in the north of Morocco like tangier, tétouan, chefchaouen, ceuta, mellila ... because of very strong historical, cultural relation and proximity (only 15 km) with spain

U can check out 4 x 4 Camel Private Tours Service at TripAdvisor because they took us there :) and yes, Tom Cruise's motorbike scene was shot there. Do some research by Googling. That was probably one of the best private tours we had because we met the locals there and went inside their home and we had mint tea at the river! We went there in April and we didnt go up to the mountain to ski if u are curious ;) I love Morocco and would love to go again because of the nice ppl ive met.

@@0907aina Let things be clear, I never said you were a liar OK! I will not tell you all my life but ...
I am French of Moroccan origin (Berber not Arab) my great paternal and maternal parent are both from Ourika (a Berber village in the mountains) near setti fadma
I go to Morocco practically every year and I have never been riding a camel at Ourika, the same for my father, he was born in France in 1970 and he went to Morocco during his youth age and summer holiday and he just told me that he has never ride on a camel at ourika.
Maybe camel owners bring camels from the sahara (their natural environment) to make money on the back of tourists ,but I do not see the interest of riding a camel in a valley where there is no desert
Ps : In Morocco Arabs and Berbers (indigenous people of morocco) are two different ethnic groups

Hospitality and usefulness can not be taught to the population, it comes from the heart, because you can not pretend to have it.
Morocco is one of the most hospitable countries in the world and by far the most hospitable in the Arab world. Morocco is a beautiful country that holds a lot of secrets especially in the medina and remote places, but we must make all cities from north to south, but the problem is that it is also a country of mass tourism since 30 to 40 years old and he brings the positive as the negative

ahaha. Yea, British Airways on long haul flights you would get In flight entertainment. However for short haul flights you don't on European airlines. Yes, also Marrakech from Europe is seen as a short haul flight ^^

Quick tip for making a tagine.
Don't put all the ingredients in it at the same time since some take longer to cook. So put the ones that take longer first and move your way up.

Welcome to Moroccan. I hope you enjoy your stay without any inconvenience. There's a lot of things to see from the north (chefchaouen the blue city) to Fez and Meknès to see the ancient medina and many monuments. Also visit volubilis the archeological city. "ifrane" sweden city. And of course Marrakech, essaouira.. The list is long. And for more fun visit dakhla it's always sunny and has beautiful landscape

Hi Jess & Stephen, this was a great vlog and great inspiration for my own video. I just came back from Marrakesh last week and the food, architecture and people were amazing. The riad manager took us to the Agafay desert to watch a sunset - it was beautiful. Next time I need to visit the blue city - it looks amazing. What was your favourite location in Morocco?

Love the video as always! I work for BA at T5, so nice to see you travelling through. Hope you had a great flight - the BA plane was a 767 (which we've now retired) and Iberia is our sister airline (part of the same company as BA, IAG). Look forward to seeing the rest of the series! :)

In September you'll be able to get to London from Heathrow for the same price as the tube but nearly the same speed as the Heathrow Express. Btw 4:30 at Heathrow is perfect because of how quiet it is.

Hi guys you need to try some tagine ar Zaitoun restaurant at the Jemma El Fenna. It’s one of the best we tried whilst we were there last week. To end the night make sure you have the spiced tea and the cake it’s nothing you have ever tasted. Tea guy stall number is 69..
