Hello everyone. The reason copyring this can be confusing is that what she does when scratching fast is different to what she teaches when breaking it down slow.
When she does it slow it's a backwards chirp, forwards chirp. backwards chirp, then a 1-click clare (pushing the record forward with the fader open, closing the fader, and then opening the fader again ALL on the forward motion).
When she does it fast she does NOT do this; she does a 1-click flare ORBIT meaning not only does she do a 1-click clare (pushing the record forward with the fader open, closing the fader, and then opening the fader again ALL on the forward motion), but she completes the ORBIT and does the same when pulling the record BACK (pulling the record back with the fader open, closing the fader, and then opening the fader again ALL on the BACKWARDS motion).
But the method is still good because it teaches you to get the forward part down properly which is where the main cool part of the sound is formed, and you can almost fuck up the backwards motion where it becomes just a chirp and it still sounds good. But even that is not what she's teaching: and speeds like this it is INSANELY HARD to do a 1-click orbit and pull the record back ALL THE WAY TO THE START OF THE SAMPLE with the fader closed then open the fader just before you push it forward again to start the next chirp. Trying to do that will just end up sounding like what she's doing here which is a flare orbit.

Nice video I love seeing more female scratch DJ's in the culture. Here is my only concern if a person is learning how to chirp this would indicate that they are most likely beginners. I would suggest that they concentrate on learning and mastering the chirp first before even trying to combo it with a flare (chirp flare aka the squeeze). the flare scratch is an intermediate / advanced scratch and in my opinion both should be taught separately at first. if you are a beginner please learn the baby scratch, transform, chirps and stabs .... That being said keep doing your thing ....

she just shattered my idea of a chirp usually do them forward with the space in the front for a hard sharp cut... now I have o learn and practice starting backwards chirps .... lol dang she's awesome tho....

With the flare scratch is the timing 1 e & a ? Because when you do it slow it seems the timing is 1 e & a 2 or five 16th notes space but when you do it fast it sounds like 1 e & a or 4 16th note spaces. Just wanna get the rhythm right. Great scratch btw x

  • @repo136

A well explained and instructed video.
However, beginners are more likely to do better with a slower, hip hop beat to scratch over rather than a 'club' track which at 120+bpm is much more difficult.

  • @johnmarellajr9070

Do you use special records for scratching? I have seen other people use pink records for scratching. Is it good enough to use cd scratchers or vinyl records for scratching without computers? I guess i am old school but just learning all this so sorry if i made a dumb comment. I am also confused of how to even set up. Just need to watch more tutorials.

Awesome......I'm loving this. If you could take this video and put it in a time machine back to the 70's, in the Bronx, everybody watching would think this was a Saturday Night Live skit. Back then I NEVER would have thought I would EVER see a nice looking white girl dressed like she's going out to dinner, speaking with a nice smooth tone, giving DJ lesson. We've come a long way baby.
