One of my all time favourites this design is just absolutely stunning, still doesn't look dated when you see one of these cars in silver, in real life. In fact, it looks more mercedes than some of the current modern mercs. I love the safety car version too, that you can see in the stuttgart merc museum still to date
I own a pristine 2007 SL 55 P030 optioned monster with 60k kms and wouldn’t sell it for any amount. Fyi. P030 is the 15k plus performance package which includes track day specs and SL 65 body panels. I have been told my car is one of one in that it is the only P030 optioned white SL with grey interior. There were only 405 performance package SLs sold in North America. I agree with the presenter that these are fabulous cars, but this video does not really feature the astounding torque and sound this beast will produce if really pushed. The P030 option includes a positrack rear differential, so when you jam your foot to the floor boards you have to hang on to the steering wheel with both hands because the car takes off like a rocket ship. It wriggles and squirms with delight. The sound from the exhaust when flat out is somewhat muffled compared to an American car but it has this indescribable melodic rasp about it that makes me giggle every time. With that said when asked it can quietly cruise for miles/hours at any speed top up or down and at journeys end you lament it didn’t last longer. I have owned many high end cars in my life and still plan to buy a few more, but I am no longer searching for the ultimate gentleman’s roadster because I have found it. I also think the price has bottomed out and will only increase in value from now on. Of course it is doubtful that it will ever surpass the sticker price when sold new. My car cost just under 200k cdn in 2007 not including luxury or sales taxes. Luckily I bought it from the original owner at a reduced price.
You'd almost think the SL stands for Sleeper. Such an understated car, not to mention the modern classic appeal. The engine is one of the golden era, before eco warriors took over. Just a shame the transmission technology wasn't up there with what it is now. That would have been automotive perfection!
