Absolutely awesome lesson Marcus, without doubt the best golf lesson/experience I’ve had, I’ve now moved completely away from all the technical thoughts I used to have standing over the ball! 👍 I’ll be back for that short game session 😉
Wow!! This is probably the best single golf lesson I’ve ever seen. I’ve been working this year on a “rotational” golf swing as several TH-cam coaches are calling it and have made great progress (after playing golf for over 45 years with “traditional” swing thoughts). Your video sums up a clear concept of how to get out of our own way from all those traditional thoughts and just swing naturally like the body already should know. The visual aids (the hoops) and the swing aids (pressure mat & swivel board) are tremendous. Great work by you on putting this all into a single video. The yardage increase is literally the icing on the cake. The real improvement is the inherent changes that will have golfers playing with better biomechanics, less strain on their bodies, and an ability to simply enjoy the game more. Thank You!! I am sharing this with all my golf friends.
Of all these lessons I’ve seen this is, for me personally, the one that resonates the most. Had a lesson with Marcus before Christmas and whilst I didn’t get these kinds of results on the day, he has freed my mind up and I now play without tension. Started seeing signs in January of it clicking, went for a club fit early February and the last 3 weeks I’ve been playing out of my skin. It’s all down to Marcus hammering home “just relax and breath “. I just load up on the way back and explode into my left side from the top of the backswing and coupled with the correct equipment for my swing I’ve added roughly 20 yards per club of previously unutilised power. Shot my best ever round on Monday of 74 and it could have been better. Every hole was pretty much, bomb the driver down the middle, GIR and a couple of putts. It’s taken a while for me but perseverance has most definitely paid off!!
This is how golf should always be taught once the basics are down. I love it!! Great stuff. Said it on another video but I’ll say it again. I wish I lived close to this guy so I could get a lesson. He’s a genius.
Oh man. I would totally do a half day lesson if I was in the UK. I've taken many lessons in the past but they don't stick. Just your video lessons are amazing with examples and explanations. But the biggest draw is the technology and data you use. It's a no brainer approach and speaks much to me. Thank you for starting this channel and good luck!
The information you give regarding the timing of weight distribution in your feet is very enlightening.. I’ve watched hundreds of videos but this is the first I have ever watched showing this.. Amazing stuff Marcus and good luck to who ever draws Jordon in a club comp 😂
Marcus, this is amazing work. You have a rare ability in getting your points across no matter the student. You know exactly how to explain things to whoever you teach. That is a gift that very few teachers learn. One day, I’ll venture north, I’m sure you could massively help my game. Cheers, Simon.
Gentlemen this is one of the most interesting golf lesson and conversation I have ever watched. While watching all I wanted to do was get up and swing my club and body with you.
This is the most understandable lesson in body coiling and free releasing I have seen in my life. Outstanding video Marcus. As a matter of fact I tend to have similar issues as Jordan, so I can´t wait to train the drills and comment results.
Marcus and Robin, This is a showcase video session! Early on you can see Marcus working to process all the possibilities with the athlete that is Jordan. Marcus is a kid on sugar! Then it is amazing to watch Marcus adjust Jordan's sequencing and make it a new habit. Zen golf and physiology at its finest. Truly a pleasure to watch. Does Marcus ever watch these videos? He would have ample opportunities to complement himself a la Dr. Joseph Parent. Thank you so much.
Another absolutely awesome lesson! I have played golf for several years and struggle to hit the ball consistently. Watching your content is helping and I would love to have a lesson! Keep it up, you are making a difference!
This has to be the best bio-mechanics lessons on the golf swing I've seen. I'm a +1 to + 3 hcp (if I don't mess around with my swing) and I don't normally like to add new elements to my swing; but the whole part about visualizing the power generation from the beginning of the power chain (from the ground) to the end the power chain (top of the abdominals) seems to have relevance with positioning in the golf swing. Great stuff in this video.
I've watched thousands of golf lessons on u tube and nowt changes. Watching this at 10pm in bed in excited to get to the range I've been stood up practice swinging feeling that back heel on my right, which I never previously had... I think my golfs going to improve after this. Thank you
I used my foot board for a wee while before I went to the range tonight and I can’t believe the change in strike out of 100 ball’s I can honestly say I miss hit 7 or 8 at the most Can’t believe the difference . Every time I go to the range I tell everyone about zen golf and marcus the magnificent lol Love the videos bud keep up the great work
Been watching and rewatching all of these and Robin’s videos over the past couple weeks and finally worked back to this one for a second viewing and I gotta say, all the Zen nuggets are in this one just so nicely packaged. Jordan does such a good job explaining where he was compared to what he feels now and the bit about feeling like he’s so far to the right on the back swing really made something “click” for me... I too have been guilty of not using the ground by not allowing myself to get over to the right side (irrational fear of head movement, hitting fat, and all that BS) and over-relying on upper body to generate force - the effect has been a lot of muscular tweaks of upper back, arms, forearms, and low back. DAMN IT! The lies we tell ourselves right??? Love this idea of changing the way we think vs. trying to stuff these movement concepts (truths!) into our preconceived ideas of what we should be doing. Man, I could go on and on but Marcus, this is straight GOLD mate! So glad you and Robin put this out for the rest of us finally!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Cheers man, this is awesome to hear and thanks so much for the kind words. It's just great to know that so many people are benefiting from these videos. Keep up the great work and thanks again for your support 👍

Did he say he plays off 20? Not for much longer! I thought it was funny that at the beginning of the lesson you were watching the shot in the air for about 4 seconds (say) then at the end of the video as he hit the 7 iron further and further you were watching the shot in the air for soooo much longer!! Plenty of 20s swing great and hit the ball well - on the range. All my life I've told I swing it like a low teen player. The reason we're still 20s is on the course. Tension, confidence and shit short game that never seems to get better. I can card a mid 80s occasionally, but I can still smack 100+
@@djjazzyjeff1232 Yeah, that's not how it works. I said to myself I'd be hitting low teens 30 years ago, when I carded 90s regularly. My game continued to go north in numbers.
@@HughRogers609 Maybe you just got old before you found the time to get good 🤷♀️ That's not a dig at you that's just saying I suspect life caught up with you in a hurry and golf fell by the wayside. Cool video. It’s funny how we all mess our natural swings up with misconceptions. He was probably shifting his mass before he “programmed the stillness”. If he would have known the difference between force and mass, it would have worked differently:) that’s why it’s handy to get good (data driven) advice early. I can’t tell you how many times I have “fixed” my swing with a misconception.
Can you explain the feeling in the trail ankle you were working on? I am really looking forward to getting the GFR system in the mail. I'm in the US so the wait is longer. Thanks guys.
Before I removed my brain from the swing, I had a new swing ever time I addresses a ball wanted to quit many many times. Jordan is me. I do not know where my unloaded point is, my bottom of the swing is or when to shift my pressure. Now, I pure it more often and swing with a fully relaxed reactive body but, still lost where my weight is. I have hit 200 yard 7's but I did not know how I did that.
Unreal lesson Marcus! You've a way of convincing people to try things a different way. I think you should be head of the UN, then maybe the world would be a better place for everyone.
14 mph increase in clubhead speed is unreal! Was it the throwing the clubhead back to get elastic recoil that activated that more? Or the feel of weight into his heels?
I'm sure most people with any sort of athletic ability can hit a 7 iron 200 yards once you learn how to loosen up and get some flexibility, I was hitting my 7 iron about 130-140m a couple of years ago with terrible technique, now it's more like 170-180m carry, the hardest thing is gaining control and accuracy. Slight changes in grip can make a huge difference to accuracy, maybe one day I'll take some lessons but they cost too much
I have been watching all your videos for a while. They have been helping a lot. Definitely playing with less tension. The question I have though is how do you begin the downswing? I seem to have a decent back swing but tend to sway on the way down. I made a footboard to practice but when I am at the top of the backswing I am not sure how to start down. Is it with the front foot or the back foot?
The downswing starts before the club reaches the top of the backswing in the form of a pressure shift onto the left foot. Marcus shows how you throw a ball in many of the videos and it's the same with the swing. Momentum shifts before you get to the top of your backswing. That's one of the big reasons why pro swings look so smooth and helps to account for their distance. It helps generate torque. So many amateurs, me included until I realised this treat the swing as two distinct parts, backswing, downswing. They're not. There's a blend near the top where they merge and cross over. Practice this whilst staying loose and relaxed and you'll see the difference. It's kind of annoying to hear coaches talk about "starting the downswing" but not teaching that it starts BEFORE your club reaches the top of its swing. There's an AMG Golf video on it where they show you a pros swing using Gears and it's quite the Eureka moment.
Enjoy your podcast . My question is that shouldn't your swing plain remain constant and the club head is closed or opened to shape the desired shot, or is this an outdated mindset now. Feedback would be appreciated if possible .
It's a bit more complex than that although simple at the same time. The swing plane doesn't exist, the club moves in space around the body with high variability. The club face just needs to be open or closed to the club path. It's the awareness that needs developing.
@@GRFGolf Thanks for taking the time to reply. I've played golf a long time and have always had the mindset that i have to recreate a constant swing plane which of course has evolved over time to achieve the best end result . I guess letting go of your own mental control of where you think everything should be sounds simple . Personally this game that i love has been about discovery through a lot of trail and error and finding answers from these . Maybe I've gone down the rabbit hole and as a result can't find my way back out i seem to be searching for that "Swing" and when i do seem to find it my mind can't recollect on what was the secret ingredient to recreate it . These are probably just the ramblings of a scratch to 7 handicapper but if you have the answers I'm all ears. Brgds Guy
I so need to get and see you Marcus. I watch every video, as I was inspired by Robin’s “left foot, right foot” videos, which in turn were massively inspired by ‘the master’ lol. I know they were only scratching the surface of Zen Golf .....
These guy’s have got great swing’s and yet they are off high handicap’s Love these lesson’s marcus , for people that can’t get to you for a lesson is there anything you could advise them to do that could help apart from what your showing in video? I’ve bought everything I’ve seen in your vid’s and have had some success, But still find it hard to relax through the strike. Anyway I’m rabbling on keep up the great work bud thank’s for the time your putting in
@P MC Speak to Jordan, George or anyone we have filmed. None of this is fabricated. I don't know these people until I meet them in the lesson. They are all first timers and if not it's mentioned and you'll be able to tell. Checkout the videos on Robin's channel. Not everyone gets a 40 yd increase. I wish they did!
P MC I genuinely play off 20, I can show you my handicap certificate if you like? My swing originally was very static and all power came from my upper body which was very limited, Marcus is the most genuine coach I’ve come across and if you think these videos are set up you’re delusional, go for a lesson and see for yourself, he opened up movements that I already had but wasn’t using so that the whole body was involved starting from the ground up, the additional power I could create was the result of this.
P MC go for a lesson it’ll be the best thing you’ve ever done, go there with an open mind and you’ll be amazed at what you can produce 👍 I wasn’t even thinking about the swing!
@P MC all I can say is ,I’ve tried a lot of the thing’s marcus has shown in his video’s Put it this way, I was on a driving range 2 day’s in a row, and 1 of the guy’s in the next bay to me said The sound of me striking the ball was making him wanting to move to another bay I haven’t hit golf ball’s like it for year’s. I went to the b&q and made a foot board, and within a couple of minute’s you can feel the proper way too transfer the weight and time it so much easier Try it bud, I’ve no reason to lie and I’m sure marcus and robbin have reason to lie either.
@P MC for me the hardest thing was to relax the arm’s. Give the foot board a try bud for the price of a couple of £ is worth giving it a go. For me the difference in the weight shifting properly and getting the swing to start from the bottom up has been an eye opener. I don’t know marcus or robbin and can only tell anyone what I tried and has been an incredible help to my swing . P MC just give it a try wha has you got to lose. All the best pal
Unloading too late, practice unloading immediately before even completing the back swing. That will create lag and bend the shaft behind you, giving you time to swing through and you'll get that whip of the club snapping back. You'll never hit it fat again.
Hi, thanks for your message and email. I'm getting back to everyone asap. Sorry for the delay but I've had over a hundred emails to respond to in the past 2 weeks. I'll be operating an online booking system soon with all the details on 👍
My issues are not slicing like most of the internet fixes but hitting fat, hitting behind the ball, and topping, and my irons do not carry as far as they should..6 iron about 134.
All standard, I was as surprised as anybody. Could see potential gains to be made but not quite on that magnitude. The body never fails to surprise when we give it the opportunity.
In what universe a 160 ball speed produces 300 yard carry ?, no hate, just asking. Every flight tracker gives different results. almost 30 yard or more difference between some of them
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I only use FlightScope really for general patterns and don't read to much into the exact numbers for reliability and validity reasons as expected. Even though launch monitors are great pieces of kit there are naturally limitations and error rates which are multiplied by numerous variables. There are ball flight models and assumptions made plus not every launch monitor captures at the same swing event so numbers aren't generally comparable. A lot can happen between collision and separation so where the measurement is captured gives a whole different simulation of what occurred. Each to his/her own but I wouldn't coach religiously to a launch monitor. In this video it was just 'a form' of feedback. Yes, a ball speed of around 160mph would suggest around 270yds carry so I'd probably question the ball speed measurement as he cleared the range and that's comfortably over 280yds.
The Fun Art of Zen...In order to [Throw a Ball]...You have [To Catch it First]! To the Point: In order to Hit the Ball in Golf... A Throwing Motion for the Ball to reach you is unnecessary! To the Pun: What is necessary? According to our [Zen Instructor]..."The Unnecessary"! To Note: The [Purpose of Zen] was to quiet [Chaos]! Amen.
To his own admission he had no control over his swing or idea where the ball was going. He could hit a shot like a pro but then the next shot would be off the planet. Easy to play to 20 with an awesome looking swing if you're losing loads of balls every round. Might make a birdie and a few pars but as he mentioned, he had some big numbers every game. It's not all about aesthetics, it's got to function. That's the underlying message of this video. Does your swing function or just look like it should! Maybe you're trying to make it look like it should function? Is the awareness there as well so you can self regulate? That's where Jordan was lacking.
Really enjoyed the video and coaching...super interesting. However...when I see a driver carry of nearly 300yrds...I become suspicious. Obviously he is a big boy and naturally talented...but most tour pros don’t carry 300. Very interesting nevertheless, some great points being made and I really enjoyed the coaching style and delivery. Going to look into this more for sure.
mark harvey read the replies I made on streetspirit2005 comment, I had been missing out on so much power by staying very static using upper body only, and not allowing the entire body to get involved.
Jordan Ellis hi Jordan...yeah I can see that and have no doubt it has added to your distance. I’m just referring to the claimed distance. A genuine 300yrd carry is a rare thing...even at tour level.

Yes it's essential to recruit efficient stretch reflex patterns to maximise angular momentum through the system 👍

14 mph increase in clubhead speed is unreal! Was it the throwing the clubhead back to get elastic recoil that activated that more? Or the feel of weight into his heels?
drroger98 great question
It was everything, having that freedom to move helped massively.
Have you guys stopped uploading the full lessons? Would love to get one of these...
Thanks for asking. Might start providing the full uncut versions again in the future 👍
@@GRFGolf Would be great to get the full uncut version of this lesson.
Genius stuff. Would love to hop across the pond for a lesson one day.
Any plans on coming to the U.S? 🙏🏿
Amazing this is the way I like to be taught... I just Subscribe.
SHOOOOOEELACCCCCCCCE!
Brilliant job!
😂😂😂👍
Didnt quite understand what saying with foot pressure map though. Was the weight getting to the outside back foot too much?
He must be master champion by now if he learns and improves that quickly in one lesson. I call bwarrrr
Are the complete lessons available for sale
Yes follow the link in the description to vimeo 👍
Brgds Guy
20 HCP !! Not for long buddy 😂👍
I so need to get and see you Marcus. I watch every video, as I was inspired by Robin’s “left foot, right foot” videos, which in turn were massively inspired by ‘the master’ lol. I know they were only scratching the surface of Zen Golf .....
Wow!!!
Anyone know how much sessions cost with this chap?
Hi, there's a link to abookign system coming out soon. If you'd like details please email me at marcus.bell@zen.golf 👍
These guy’s have got great swing’s and yet they are off high handicap’s
Love these lesson’s marcus , for people that can’t get to you for a lesson is there anything you could advise them to do
that could help apart from what your showing in video? I’ve bought everything I’ve seen in your vid’s and have had some success,
But still find it hard to relax through the strike.
@P MC all I can say is ,I’ve tried a lot of the thing’s marcus has shown in his video’s
Put it this way, I was on a driving range 2 day’s in a row, and 1 of the guy’s in the next bay to me said
The sound of me striking the ball was making him wanting to move to another bay
I haven’t hit golf ball’s like it for year’s. I went to the b&q and made a foot board, and within a couple of minute’s
you can feel the proper way too transfer the weight and time it so much easier
Try it bud, I’ve no reason to lie and I’m sure marcus and robbin have reason to lie either.
@P MC for me the hardest thing was to relax the arm’s. Give the foot board a try bud for the price of a couple of £
is worth giving it a go. For me the difference in the weight shifting properly and getting the swing to start from the bottom up has been an eye opener. I don’t know marcus or robbin and can only tell anyone what I tried and has been an incredible help to my swing . P MC just give it a try wha has you got to lose. All the best pal
How come when the camera shows the shot tracer it looks like a block and not a draw.
The shots are well to the right of where the flightscope is set up so it doesn't pick up the flight quite the same
@@GRFGolf It just seemed odd
I need that forty yards
Idk if I just don't quite grasp it or what but I can't swing with loose arms without hitting the hosel or extremely fat everytime 😭
Unloading too late, practice unloading immediately before even completing the back swing.
That will create lag and bend the shaft behind you, giving you time to swing through and you'll get that whip of the club snapping back.
You'll never hit it fat again.
What is a cost of a lesson please ? I emailed to ask but never got a reply ...
Came into the Zen Den a 20 handicap. Left the Zen Den a 10 handicap.
👏👏👏
I want to get booked in .
Email me marcus@zengolfmechanics.com and we'll get you booked in 👍
Computer set to high altitude?
All standard, I was as surprised as anybody. Could see potential gains to be made but not quite on that magnitude. The body never fails to surprise when we give it the opportunity.
Some of those drives sounded smashed🤣
They were bombs 💣💣💣

That actually is right about on point: 160 ball speed
Off 20 handicap he could become a wicked partner in a 2 ball competition , but guessing he wont be off 20 handicap for long LOL.
If I could hit 200 yard 7 iron. I'd break 80 with 7 iron as my biggest club in the bag.
I have a book by dr Joseph Parent called Zen golf.
Great swing. He won't be off 20 for long.
Dude love the channel but you need to show us the shots with the camera, at least sometimes
Gosh...I hit my 7 iron 109.
20 handicap 😳😳
That's what we thought, but he didn't have ball flight control. You can lose a lot of balls hitting it that far without control.
Amen.
This guy is fuckin sick
This guy hits a 7i 160 and he's playing off 20!!!!!
Couldn't keep it on the planet as he was applying so much effort in the wrong places
Plays off 20 with that swing. I'm guessing his short game needs work too. Won't be 20 for long
To his own admission he had no control over his swing or idea where the ball was going.
Bryson de Chambeau hits his 7 iron 205 yards.
Yes to the fucking Right! Haha
A genuine 300yrd carry is a rare thing...even at tour level.
mark harvey so are you saying it’s wrong or? I mean, I was there, I physically seen it carry over the back of the range.
"good lord" ROFL
Playing for 2 years my arse
The cameraman is probably the worst I have ever seen, never shows what it is interesting (figures for instance, ...) 😳
Feels a bit unfair that he's hitting a 7 iron 200 yards and has only been playing for 2 years
200 yard carry?! 7 iron? And he's off 20!!!
Not at the beginning of the session and by his own admission he couldn't keep it on the planet. Different story now though 👍
@@GRFGolf Very true. I'd love to know what scores he's shooting now. Great lesson, wish you were closer to Cornwall, I'm sure you'd have a field day with my swing!
There was a reason Snead used to practice in barefeet....
I sure wish I could hear and understand what is being said.
20 h'cap ? hmmmm
@@jordanellis541 Personally I would have taken it as a compliment.
When you watch these videos you realise exactly how much BS instruction there is out there
Hmm..I am still hitting 7 iron 100-115 when I hit the ball and maybe 123 or so when I am lucky.
Email me and we'll chat 👍
