    Very informative video Ray,
    I just wish Tacoma would list their products and prices online so we could order directly from the Tacoma website. For now I am going with the dust deputy and my adjustable cabinet air intake I made. I definitely would like the flow meter so I could monitor the negative pressure per media type I am using. Ray, I am just finishing up my new build and found Rust-oleum “Toolbox Red” at my local Home Depot for painting some homemade brackets and painting a smooth finish over the sealing inside the cabinet and hopper seams. I will let you know how close the color is. Thanks Ray, keep up the great content!

      Hello Paul, I agree with you and I am trying to express how important having a website of products and the ability to place orders but they are in the process of moving to a larger facility and this is low on the priority list. Let me know how the toolbox red matches hopefully better than the gloss cherry red! Thank for commenting and for tuning in!

      Ray's Garage Hello Ray, as promised I wanted to let you know how the “Tool Box Red” matched the original harbor freight paint. Well, it’s about as close as you can get from a rattle can. A shade darker but very close to the original. You have look close to tell the difference but at a glance from three feet away you really wouldn’t notice the slight shade difference.
      The only way to perfectly match the harbor freight color is to go to a automotive paint supply shop that still uses the computer matching from a paint sample. In my area, the automotive paint supply shops seem to have conspired together to stop using paint matching.. I restore old vintage British sport cars for a hobby and was always able to have the paint shop in my area perfectly match any color from my sample!
      To sum things up, we are talking about a industrial tool here, a blast cabinet! So... I think the toolbox red from Rust-Oleum Farm & Implement is very acceptable for paint matching this particular blast cabinet. Hope this helps, take care Ray and let me know what you think?

      Paul, Thank you so much for sharing your results, I will pin this comment to the top and also share this info will all, what color primer did you use? Thanks again!

      @paulhealey8221 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ray's Garage Hello Ray, actually I painted one end of my harbor freight suction tube I never used for a direct side by side comparison so I did not need primer, however i suggest light grey primer so the red color coat reflects a lighter tone better matching the original harbor freight color. I can email you a picture of the paint comparison if you like?

    • @paulhealey8221
      @paulhealey8221 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ray's Garage Ray, let the tool box red dry overnight and it’s a perfect match! My first comment on the results I promised you was based on the paint still wet... but after letting the toolbox red dry overnight it actually lightens up a shade and flattens out perfectly to match the color and texture of the original harbor freight red color. We have a winner here!

    It appears to me that if the cabinet waste gate were to be able to be adjusted from in front of the cabinet while being able to see the flow meter and possibly blasting a part, it would make the adjustment easier than going to the side of the cabinet. This may be a too cumbersome a change for the effect but this was my thought.

    • @RaysGarage
      @RaysGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Roy, Yes, that sure would make it a lot easier and I'm sure Mike designed it this way for the least amount of cabinet modifications. It was a little cumbersome in video since I was working around two camera stands and a mic, in reality its not too bad because once the system is adjusted you should not have to touch it very often. Thanks for tuning in! Cheers, Ray

    I’m kinda confused so negative is at the top and will reduce the amount of media being sucked out and the bottom is positive which is barely removing the dust correct?

    • @RaysGarage
      @RaysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I may have called it incorrectly, basically its the amount of vacuum to pull dust and not material out while blasting.

    I'm currently trying to adapt many of these HF blast cabinet upgrades to my Eastwood blast cabinet I've had for more than 15 years, but air intake and exhaust vacuum port is quite a bit different than the HF cabinet. My vacuum port only has an 1-1/4" connection, but it mates up perfectly with my Porter-Cable two stage shopvac. The air intake on the back of the cabinet is adjustable by turning a circular baffle to open or close a series of holes on the back cabinet wall. I know I'm able to achieve negative cabinet pressure with the air baffle wide open, since I can see my blast gloves suck in slightly and the side doors are held closed when I release the latches. If I close the baffles the gloves suck in even more.
    Even though I know I have good negative pressure I'm wondering if my setup might benefit from a larger vacuum port to increase the overall CFM of my vacuum system. I blast with brown 80 grit aluminum oxide media and while blasting there is quite a cloud of dust that impedes my vision. I'm wondering if improved the CFM of my vacuum system would it improve the dust cloud issue while blasting, but I also fear that in doing this I will also be sucking out my blast media. If the only goal of a vacuum system is to have negative pressure in the blast cabinet then I already have that, but I still wonder if increasing vacuum CFM may still improve visibility during blasting?

    Hi Ray Another great video....Looking forward to the next one when you blast some parts...Was wondering when you were adjusting the gate valves on the big one ,could you not have only adjusted the one on the vac and removed the one on the blaster ??...Im assuming the adjuster on the flow meter is for adjusting to get full range if your vac is unable to do so..?? therefore setting a benchmark so you know when your filters is getting blocked..???....On another note....i have one of the cleco guns on mine currently , i came across a video from Tarheel parts which demonstrates how to set the gun up for proper vacuum see link.... im curious now to see how much vacuum Mikes gun creates???...th-cam.com/video/1k25Mivx9Tg/w-d-xo.html Cheers Frank

    • @RaysGarage
      @RaysGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Frank, I am looking forward to blasting some parts more than I can say! On the smaller vacs, one waste gate will work just fine. More powerful vacs and dust collection systems need both waste gates. I should have shown that one waste gate will not give you the low end for lighter blast media on the more powerful vacs. I am not sure how much vacuum Mike's gun creates, I will be sure and ask and show this in Part 11, Fell free to call Mike and ask him he will be happy to give you more info than you need! Thanks for this great comment and stay tuned for more good stuff to come! Best Regards, Ray

      The dust deputy will save the shop vac from sucking up small particles so yes get one. I Blast professionally as a job and a shop vac filter is not designed to stop particulate the size you will be removing from the splash cabinet the dust that beauty is to protect the shot back and make it so you have to empty the shop back next to never. The common company does make nice things they absolutely do. But if you hear how many times he says the name . The only reason he’s not saying to use it is because he can’t say the word Tacoma company first apparently . I have seen several of these mods and they use the Oneida Dust Deputy, did you consider that or is it not necessary?
    I am really excited to finally see your highly modified box working before I start mine. For me it is a bit difficult to get in contact with Mike on the phone (living in Germany) but once I get the items that I need from Tacoma (should be mid August when I am in Dallas) I can get to work with mine. Right now, if all works well with those upgrades, I will upgrade my vapor blaster too.
    Again, very interesting.
    Oh, when will we see the box in action?

    • @RaysGarage
      @RaysGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Bernhard, The negative cabinet pressure does not drop to zero because the negative vacuum volume is much greater than the compressed air injected thru the gun, high pressure, low volume. I am really looking forward to blasting parts, I can already tell it's going to rock!!! Mike's gun works great in vapor cabinets as well and there is a video out there that demonstrates Mike's gun used in a vapor blast cabinet.

    Great videos and very informative and to the point.
    I have watched other videos by others making the upgrades with the Tacoma parts, but your videos are much more efficient.
    One very important thing that you or others have not addressed is the importance of dry air when blasting to avoid the clogging of the media in the blasting system.
    As you well know blasting uses a lot of air and the compressor gets hot producing all of this air. Especially if the compressor is smaller and you are continually blasting for awhile. The compressor may never shut off until you are done blasting and will become extremely hot. The air is hot coming out of the compressor, and hot air holds more moisture/water than colder air. When the air cools down, especially after going through a length of hose which acts as an air cooler, water condenses in the air line and would clog the blasting system unless there was a moisture trap located at the blaster. Is the Tacoma regulator a moisture trap also?
    I haven't seen any of the blaster conversion videos actually blast anything for any real length of time to see if the blasting system clogs up.
    Maybe you could address this in a video, if you haven't already and I just haven't seen it.
    Again, great job!

    • @RaysGarage
      @RaysGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks David, I do need to do a comprehensive video on air compressors, pump RPM, CFM, air volume, fitting size and air delivery systems, cooling the air and delivering a high volume of dry air is very important, I did do a video on my air system some time back but did not touch on any of these important factors. th-cam.com/video/HXKMTE1DbAk/w-d-xo.html
      My system is working very well and have never had any moisture in the lines, even after blasting for over a hour straight! No, my setup is not the best but is does work very well and my air compressor can easily keep up with anything I attach on the end of the air hose! Thanks for your comments and for tuning in!

    Ray, I have done all the mods to my HF cabinet and have a question about the flow meter. I have turned the knurled nut on my flow meter in and out, it doesn't seem to do anything? What should it do? I stopped turning the adjusting screw when the amount of twisting action seemed too high...

    • @RaysGarage
      @RaysGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Ken, The Flow Meter Adjustment Screw will only give very small changes when tuning the meter. Start with the set screw about two turns out from all the way in, then set your waste gates until you are pulling vacuum at the first green ball. It's more important to adjust the wastegates for correct cabinet vacuum. lighter blast media should be set at the first green ball, heaver media requires just a little more vacuum. The goal is to remove dust not media, so adjust accordingly. I hope this helps you tune in your cabinet. Cheers, Ray

    • @RaysGarage
      @RaysGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ric, This is what Tacoma calles it. It measures the amount of vacuum in the cabinet so you can monitor it while blasting. You always want to maintain vacuum and not pressure in the cabinet.

    Ray. How do the red and green lights on the vacuum meter relate to inches of vacuum? Thanks for all your videos. They are very informative.

    • @RaysGarage
      @RaysGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Troy, The Airsoft BB's do not indicate vacuum in inches, it is more of a guide for adjusting the cabinet vacuum depending on the media you are using and comes calibrated from Tacoma Company.

    • @troysmith8026
      @troysmith8026 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RaysGarage Thanks Ray. I do understand the BB is a guide for differing mediums and that's beautiful. But by the same logic, it requires a precise measure of vacuum in inches to move the BB to each stage. It requires no vacuum to be at the lower red LED, but it will require a precise vacuum in inches to move the BB to the 1st green LED, etc for the 2nd 3rd green LED and the upper red LED if your cabinet is sealed very well. I see that you have an adjusting needle on the vacuum meter but once you get it adjusted to work at its peak, you could measure the precise inches of vacuum to reach each stage and that number will never change. I know you are busy but if you could find time to connect a temporary vacuum gauge to your blaster to show the inches of vacuum at each stage it would be very helpful me. I would install a 0 to 30 inch vacuum gauge on my sand blaster cabinet and adjust my vacuum to your findings. If you are not comfortable doing this, that's okay. You have already shown us sooo much in detail. Thanks again.

I will be doing an accelerated video build once I receive all the Tacoma Upgrades and options that were done in the previous videos then pick up where I left off. I can tell you with 100% confidence that these upgrades are top notch and will outperform cabinets in the 5K to 8K range at a fraction of the cost. Don't hold me to this but if you buy every upgrade and all options it will run around $1200 and believe Tacoma gives a discount if all upgrades and options are purchased at one time.

    Ok so I now have a 80 gallon compressor running the cabinet like a pro. I assume the red and green BB are setup that the higher the ball travels the more negative pressure in the cabinet? I didn't get the adjustment upgrade screw with my pressure meter. I assume I am missing this piece? I spoke to Mike for a long period of time and helped educate him on Cerakote. He is a great guy and I have had no issues with anything that has come from his company. Please advise on the colored BBs. Hello Keith, Don't worry about the adjustment on the back of the flow meter, just make sure there is a set screw in the threaded tiny port about mid way in and out. Set your vac so when blasting your white BB is at the first green BB, if it's any higher you will be removing good blast material.

      "Negative Vacuum Pressure" I'm sure you got what I was saying. You would always want to be pulling vacuum inside the cabinet, if not you would be pressurizing the cabinet and not removing dust and possibly force media out of any sealed seams. Thanks for pointing this out!

    I am having an issue at the moment. I have had the deluxe kit installed for over a year and have used it for the first time on Saturday 9/26/20. I have a 30Gal Husky electric compressor and it holds 175psi. I built a cooling system on my wall with about 25-30 feet with a pressure regulator and desiccant filter for moisture. From that it is a 1/2 hose with 3/8 fittings on the end directly to the cabinet. I have tried this with a 3/8 hose as well and have the same result. I do have a dust deputy with a 6 gallon Rigid shop vac. I have set the regulator to 40psi on the cabinet that came with the deluxe kit. When I mash the pedal and set the regulator to 40psi it doesn't quite make it there. Then when I let the pedal go it shows me over 100 psi on the regulator gauge. Is the regulator no good? It was brand new and used it once. It also has the problem that even though I am running 40psi and mash the pedal it should only move a few pounds if any and it drops down passed 20psi. What should I set the inline regulator to for it to keep the pressure? It feels like maybe the vacuum is pulling so much air it is also emptying my compressor tank way to fast with consistent blast. Can you assist? I feel like an idiot at this point.
    I reached out to Mike and was waiting for Kelly to send me a price list for their products. I have not heard back yet and I know they are in the process of moving. The website really needs to have a store. My user name has a long history behind it. Don't judge me!

    • @RaysGarage
      @RaysGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Keith, It sounds like to me from the info you provided is that your air compressor can not keep up, what is your compressors CFM @ 90 psi? To properly set the regulator start with a full air tank and the regulator fully closed so that when you mash the pedal no air is going to the gun, then with the pedal still fully mashed start opening the regulator by turning the adjustment knob clockwise until the gauge reads 40 psi. You will be then correctly set for 40 psi. I run all 1/2" id from my air system to the cabinet, 1/4" might be to small and no enough volume. Try this and get back to me on your results.

    • @keithiedogshit66
      @keithiedogshit66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Before I rule out your air compressor, try the regulator adjustment I recommended. If it's not too much trouble you could try running a straight 1/2" ID hose and fittings directly from your air compressor to the cabinet. If this does not supply enough air volume then i would say you need an additional air tank and/or larger CFM air compressor.
