    I’ve seen this happen too Andrew, but the reason why some people aren’t renewing their PMP is because companies are requiring employees to get other certifications which requires additional yearly fees and pdus to obtain. In 2 months I have obtained the SAFe Agilist certification and Scrum Master certification. I work for a large Hospital and my IT department required this. They also require you to be PMP certified with experience to apply for a PMP position. I definitely will maintain my PMP certification. Thanks for this video.

      @@Fly_Nimbus No. We are only given $500 a year for certs and several thousands toward degrees. So they paid for my SAFe 5 Cert (out of my boss’s budget)and ScrumMaster (from my $500 yearly Cert reimbursement) , but I have several more to get this year which will be out of my pocket: PMP, Product Owner, and I’m considering the SAFe LPM, but I will wait for this one prob next year so that I can at least get $500 of it paid by my organization.

    You have forgot to analyze the root cause of why people are not renewing.. It is only because of the renewal price? Or it is that PMP certification is loosing prestige on the market and the cost/benefit is not being profitable? Or Maybe people get certified, then get the promotion they wanted and then loose interest on renewal?

    This is really interesting - this test is so expensive that I can't imagine letting it lapse unless someone had absolutely no intention of ever working in a PM environment again! Maybe retirees? Shifting to a different cert, a more specialized one? Fascinating.

    There's so many certifications out there. Sometimes you have to pick and choose which ones you want to keep up with. I'm studying for PMP right now. I also have a CPA and CMA. I've let my series 6, 63 and life health expire. PMP is really personal branding. If you feel it is useful to keep it active than do so. If not than don't. It's that simple. I think people are smart enough to decide what is best for them.

  • @marysimmons1
    @marysimmons1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    PMP has always charged for renewal and required PDUs, so that's not the reason. It could be that folk are going for the multitude of other certs, like PMI-ACP, they are specializing in a certain pm discipline. A lot of jobs out there will say PMP (or equivalent) with agile.

  • @TheVeryAgilePM
    @TheVeryAgilePM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    PMP Certifications are important, but costly and people don't like the whole proctored experience. Right now companies want SAFe Certifications and very few PMI-ACP. It is a practice and you have to pay for that. Employers are being tightfisted with training reimbursements. I would love to get PMP and retain it, but it is so time consuming. I need to be able to do it online as a working mom.

      I can attest to this. I was trying to go through basics course to prepare to sit for CAPM and it was taking me 3-4 times as long to get through because modules would not mark as “complete.” I had to keep taking screenshots and getting IT ticket where they would mark it as complete on the back end. I complained of this multiple times over several months but no one seemed to care. I was wasting so much time when I had goals I wanted to meet and someone advised me to study using other methods and stay away from basics course (I didn’t realize I could do that at that time), so I and doing another PM certification course and using that certificate to count towards my PDU’s to sit for my CAPM. I do want the CAPM to increase credibility with getting my foot in the door and hope that the experience I gain won’t require me to have a PMP. I think the every 3 years thing is honestly a money-making scheme and I know I likely won’t keep up with it anyway and have no interest in throwing money down the drain. I will maintain membership to show I am a member and gain practical work experience and get OTHER certifications that I feel will assist me better. Unsure with proper experience that PMP is even needed and I think people are catching onto this.

    SAFe and Agile certifications are the 'in-thing' now and they aren't as costly as PMP is. Take for example I took membership and shelved out a good sum for membership but couldn't take the exam because of personal reasons. Don't get me wrong I know this was something I could maybe control but at the same time PMP studies need at least 3-4 months of study, membership costs are high and then the exam cost itself is high. I took a week off and my company sponsored Safe certification trainings and sponsored the exam which I cleared in 2-3 weeks of study. I got a new job because of these certs in a few months. And I am applying agile methodologies and I see a large number of companies applying it too. 5 months before my membership expired I weighed the costs in timewise and then money wise (exam fee) and saw unless it's a pure project world, a PMP cert is probably lost today because Product is gaining momentum and a lot of limelight. Plus PMP was relevant for waterfall methodologies. Agile is key now. Pmi has tried to add agile into PMP but as someone who went through PMP material and Safe certifications, PMP does not do justice to the real agile methodologies that are being practiced. Which is why I decided not to spend more money and give the pmp exam because it's probably redundant now honestly. And I had been wanting to take the exam for many years but the landscape has changed now.

    Wonderful &very useful video. Life & time moves in parallel side by siide forward, and during this journy new things comes & many old concepts n techniques expired or eliminated. We are in a fast changing world, and if we dont stay synchronised & uptodate with changes then in time we ourselves with our experience expired and ignored by time and business world too, and not only our pmp certificates expired and lost. We must do our best to maintain things and stay inpace with majour changes at least. Again thanks to U Andrew.

    I am proud to have my PMP. IMO earning PDus over a 3-year span is not that hard if one's focused and disciplined. Why let it lapse when one worked so hard to get it in the first place? I made a commitment to myself to maintain the PDUs when I made the decision to sit for the exam. Plus, I'm a freelance pm thus I pay out of pocket for continuing ed. So, no excuse for those who are employer-sponsored to let it lapse.

    So I know someone who simply let theirs expire. They are at the end of their career, a senior Vice President role on their way to retirement, they simply have no reason to maintain it at this point.
    It would be interesting for them to also note average age and role of those maintaining the accreditation. When I become a VP I will also probably not worry about maintaining it on my way to retirement.

    Video could have been much shorter. I don't think you made any effective case for keeping certification valid other than you have to retest or it's a hassle. The month to month variation is likely normal. Anyone interested in understanding this trend should understand how and why behind it. If not that data needs to be available to all. Managers need to be able to explain why something is occurring.

    Andrew Sir I got the point that renewal of PMP is important and once certified then we should do renewal before it gets expired. This makes sense also. However, I am still confused that why only in June month a sudden dip in PMP happens.
    Do you really think that it's because of renewal? I doubt it because if renewal is the reason then it should happen uniformly every month. I doubt this is the reason, something else should be there. Not sure if PMI will disclose it or not.
