  • Tamarind seeds are easy to germinate and grow with this new method that I've discovered. Watch this video to find out how to have a tamarind tree of your own!
Please Note: With any tree grown from seed, the tree may not grow true to type. It may take longer for the tree to produce fruit. The fruit grown from the tree may not have the same characteristics and taste as the original fruit.

I was eating tamarind and thought, maybe I could plant the seed just for fun🤣 I planted it immediately after eating, and 3day or so I was shocked to see the seed grew, and here I am watching how to properly raise it🤣

I recently ate a Mexican candy 'Tamarindo pulp'... They come in a clear labeled baggy.. Some of these contain seeds, so I jokingly stuck one in a pot with my wife's plants, I had forgotten all about the seed until my wife pointed out to me that another plant seedling was coming thru the soil of one of her plants, I explained to her what I had done, no biggy...I moved Tamarind seedling into another pot and has now become my plant project... Crazy that the seeds went thru the candy making process and still survived

Be sure that you have lots of yard space. Tamarind trees get extremely large! They grow in the wild here in the Bahamas, I love tamarind sauce. Here's the recipe: In a medium saucepan boil 15 to 20 ripe tamarinds (outer shell removed) with or without veins. Stirring constantly add sugar to your taste. Simmer on medium heat stirring from time to time until the mixture is thickened to ketchup (catsup?) like consistency. Cool and eat as is or serve with meat such as steak or a burger...Yummy! Warning: Be sure not to eat too much one-time. Tamarind pulp sauce is a known laxative!

There is a sweet tamarind in Thailand that you don't have to add sugar. It's very delicious. I had to get a grafted plant after visiting Thailand and falling in love with the sweet tamarind. Just eat fresh.

My mom brought back a bag of tamarind for juice, and i collected the seeds and did this to half of them (just to see for myself how good it actually was), it was the best/worst decision I’ve ever made cus IT WORKED VERY WELL and now i have like 25 tamarind little plants with leaves and all and I don’t even know how to take care of a tamarind plant, let alone… 25+ of them 😂😂

Tamarind is a very good plant to have in your garden since it takes nitrogen from the atmosphere to create fertiliser for the soil. Wherever the roots reach, the soil there get better and nearby plants are benefited. Tamarind leaves are also edible and used as vegetables in many countries.

Make sure to soak the seeds after scarification until they are about double the size before sowing. The scars don't need to cover a large area, just big enough to let water enter the seed. This should take about a day and a half and the outer shell shrivels up and can be removed and you end up with a white, bean-like seed. You'll get almost a 100% germination rate after a few days this way.

So the other day I was at the grocery store, and I saw King Oyster mushrooms. I cook a lot of Japanese food, so I knew I wanted to try them. Right next to them were boxes of tamarind. I had no idea what they were, and I thought it was odd I had never heard of them, considering I watch so many Japanese cooking TH-cam channels, and they were right in the midst of all the east Asian foods - various mushrooms (shitake, enoki, shimeji), snow peas, fresh ginger, daikon, Japanese eggplant, Chinese eggplant, Lotus root, etc. So I picked up a box, figuring I'd search for a Japanese cooking video that used them. Imagine my surprise, and excitement, when I found out it was an African food - I'd never had any type before, and was excited to research it. In the end, that night, since I didn't have many of the other ingredients I'd need, I ended up making just a tamarind sauce, to use as a sauce for Tonkatsu (Japanese pork cutlet), as I read that tamarind sauce was good for any type of fried foods. It was SO good! When I made the sauce, I had put the seeds aside on a paper towel, thinking what a cool necklace they would make by wire wrapping each one, then connecting them all together. (Not sure if they would dry out and not be so pretty anymore, or what, but it's why I left them sitting on a paper towel. 😀) This morning, I saw the seeds sitting there, and googled how to grow them and landed here. Now I'm excited to try to sprout a couple - thank you for the informative video, and for showing various stages of growth! EDITED TO ADD - so reading more, I found lots of Indian dishes with tamarind, and apparently they are widely used throughout south and southeast Asia. But my first searches the other day were all coming up with African dishes. Weird? Maybe I was just tired and reading it wrong? I had been hiking up and down a mountain for over five hours that afternoon, and I wish I would have bookmarked those first few articles I found...

I'm Indian and tamarind features prominently in our cooking. We eat the pods like a snack too! It's incredibly healthy for your metabolism. Also taste great in tamarind margaritas 😊 Bon appetit!

Thank you so very much. Wonderful, wonderful information.
Being from the island, I love Tamarinds, so if I can get it to grow in my backyard, I would be stoked.
    Again, thank you.

Thanks for the video. Enthusiastic and well explained! How long does it take for the plant to bear fruit pods? Does it have to be outdoors to produce fruit.
