The ins, outs, and benefits of using Grafana Loki as a backend logging solution

  • As organizations have moved from monolithic to microservice-based architectures, there has been an explosion in the volume of logs generated. Most logging solutions create a full index of the logs and use SSD drives, which results in costly compute and storage resources for logs that are mostly write once, read never. We created Grafana Loki to solve these problems. Loki only indexes the metadata of the log lines, relies on inexpensive object storage, and is architected for scalability. In addition, Loki takes advantage of parallelism and sharding that results in fast query performance. In this session, we will discuss the benefits of using Loki as a backend logging solution.

I did a POC on Loki with a small log volume and it worked as expected. In real I want to ingest 2TB of logs per day and query the same. is there a way to decide on the number of ingesters and queriers and the amount of CPU and RAM for each one of these.

The presentation itself was good, but this is official video content. At least remove the dog from your work environment while you are recording. The noise is annoying and unprofessional.

It looks like this was recorded live during an after-hours Meetup, with noise cancelling headphones. I have heard excited babies and even an angry rooster on my professional work calls. WFH definitely poses new challenges. 🤔👶🐓🐕

Yeah, this doesn’t seem to be a big stage type thing in front of thousands with Tim Cook there ya know. I think we can totally let that slide and focus on the content.

Ridiculously INCONSIDERATE. To us the viewers, and to your friend, the dog. He doesn't understand why you are ignoring him. He wants your love and attention. Dogs love us and don't want to be ignored when you're sitting right there. Inconsiderate to us as viewers, who have to sit through your friend's constant whining and howling for a full 15 minutes. I had to stop this presentation several times because it was SO ANNOYING. This is professional content on the official TH-cam channel. This is an absolute must to re-record without your neglected family member. The presentation is impossible to get through. Just horrible. Please be considerate to the people around you. To your dog, your audience, and your company and coworkers upon whom this reflects badly. For a company focussed on ALERTING, you sure aren't paying attention to the alerts going off in your own environment!
