The only time we see the Ghoul give a little smile in the series is after he revives 4 with the stimpak, probably the first good moment he had in a very long time.
@@AR-yd2nd That really isn't a smile, he is baring his teeth and smirking/grimacing when he kills, maybe he's a bit bemused by the situation. It isn't until 4 perks up that you see a genuine little smile on his face, a hint of happiness, a remnant of who he used to be. Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but there's a difference between grinning while doing what you have to do, and smiling.
The Ghoul angry about having to be sidetracked. In game that would be a Side Quest. It happens a lot. Kinda like when you go to start your coffee maker only to find you're out of coffee, you panic and hyperventilate, then prepare for a side quest of stopping at the Quick Mart for coffee before work.
That's not really a side quest, more of a sub-objective. A side quest is anything that *doesn't* advance the main quest - so, in your example, if your spouse asked you to let your dog out while you were walking to the kitchen. :)
@45:38 - In the first episode one of the guys ask why he is doing birthday parties, and the other one says "alimony". So at the time of the party, at least as far as those guys (and we) know, she is alive and they are divorced.
Just to give you an fyi: The drug the raider took in the first episode is called "Jet" (there's multiple different drugs in the game you can use, and you character can even get addicted to, that give different buffs). The drug that The Ghoul uses is different. What it is I won't say due to spoilers, you'll learn more about it this season :) Let's just say he actually *needs* it to survive
In fairness, nobody outside the writers really knows what the ghoul is using even if there are some theories. Since what they show of it doesn’t really line up with something from the game for now.
Just listening to your review and commentary, I think you got a good grasp of the world of Fallout. I'm tempted to mention stuff. But it's more fun to watch you go through it. Can't wait for more. 👍
I think the squire carrying a gigantic bag is also a reference to the games. In Fallout 4, at least, you can have a companion with you and they can carry 150 pounds of random stuff for you if you ask.
Put them in a upgraded PA, then they can carry around 400. With military paint, +1 strenght for the chest piece and calibrated shocks for the legs, you can carry 540 and then there is a mod that adds backbacks for PA, that gives you additional 180
As bizarre as it may seem a lot, and I mean A LOT of this things happening in the wasteland here in the show. It happens in the game. The game can go from horror, comedy, emotional, drama. Or all at once.
I almost never eat the old stuff in-game. I'll eat bugs instead. Iguana-on-a-stick is low weight and just one satisfies hunger. Noodle cups conveniently satisfy both hunger and thirst, but are heavy and need to eat two. Crispy crickets from Nuka World are good for restoring health, but also heavy.
@yt45204 It's a game reference. Rural folk are just as apt to bring odd or just too much stuff as beginning backpackers as city people. Maybe different stuff, but still.
The inhaler the Raider used in the first episode is a different drug, called Jet. It's from the games. It's not the same Cooper's drug inhaler. That's all I'll say, since Jet and other drugs are not directly explained. The Jet inhaler in the first episode is just an Easter Egg for fans.
They did a ton of practical effects in this show. And, for the most part, the CGI is great. There were shots I had no idea were CGI, until I watch a making of video.
They’re doing Maximus pretty well as the character torn between revenge and personal gain that also has a conscience. I’m also super interested in Thaddeus’ character after what happens this season. All the characters are great they did an amazing job on top of creating the world of fallout.
There are quite a few different drugs that make the rounds in this world. Inhalation, injection, ingestion - all the kinds! The red solid colored inhaler is Jet, and the raider took it in the vault to boost combat ability; it’s like a berserker mode. It’s actually made from the fumes of Brahmin (mutated cow) DUNG. 😅
The game is ultra violent and absurdly humorous. There's even a perk you can get in the game that makes everyone you shoot comically explode in a cloud of blood and guts with eyeballs and teeth exploding in 3D at your screen. Meanwhile, that 50s music is playing the whole time. Lol.
I appreciate them delving into the pre-war culture, particularly the future version of the Red Scare and how films were being influenced to include subtle propaganda about individualism (in opposition to anything that might feel like socialism).
"Does shit like that happen in the games" Oh yes. Gulpers, Yao-Guy (The bear from the second episode), big ugly Bugs... everything wants a piece of ya. I _am_ actually surprised that Deer only had one head though. Usually the only deer like thing you see are Radstags and, uh... they've got two.
I'm surprised that the first creature she ran into wasn't a giant rat like in the first game. Of course, one starts off basically naked when they leave the Vault. You collect clothes, gear and weapons as you progress.
Just a clarification on nomenclature. People who live in vaults are called vault dwellers. The protagonist for each game is referred to as: Fallout 1: The Vault Dweller Fallout 2: The Chosen One Fallout 3: The Lone Wanderer Fallout New Vegas: The Courier Fallout 4: The Sole Survivor In Fallout 2 and Fallout New Vegas the protagonist is not a vault dweller.
Jonah Nolan is great at weaving different timelines to tell the story. Momento, the prestige, Westworld season 1, the entirety of Person of Interest. Along with his sucker punch twists. With Cooper he also delivers on the "Hero living long enough to become the villain" which is just the best version he's done.
On the rehabilitation vs capital punishment, there truly some minds that connot be rehabilitated, im not saying we should just end them. But, some people, and some minds, cannot be fixed, and there are some crimes that take a specific type of evil within that cannot be rehabilitated.
@@funnylilgalreacts Also as an Australian, I don't think it's that bad here in terms of bugs etc. You just have to be careful of the Drop Bears and Hoop Snakes.
Introducing another of this wild, wild wasteland's wonderful creatures! This week we have... the Gulper! This one is a bit different to the ones from the games for various reasons, but the ones in the games are mutated from Newts and the amphibious Hellbender Salamander species. Also, I couldn't think of a better way to describe the games than "Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every goddamn time."
is he though? he actually has some proficiency as squire, does what the knight asks for, thinks on his feet, and doesn't betray his knight. make no mistake, tidus got killed by maximus, first injured due to maximus being daft, then by open betrayal. and all of that after maximus swore to obey and got branded. no idea why ppl think maximus wasn't the one putting the razorblades in there. he skipped the line, wasn't ready for squireship, and I bet that's also partly why tidus treated him badly.
@@danii7584 Titus was a shithead, he was probably going to treat Dane equally shitty. Hell, it's not even implied he actually knows something happened to his first squire.
12:15 I have around 3000+ hours in the Fallout game series, and when you think about the guy in the Vault that did the inhaler thing, he inhaled something called "Jet". The drug is a powerful meta-amphetamine that stimulates the central nervous system, triggering a rush of energy and strength primarily brought about by endorphins.
Idk if they’ll make a fallout game with these characters BUT people have been playing the games and recreating Lucy, Max, ect… it’s cool to see the show is inspiring people to replay the games
I hope they don't. Keep them separate stories. I'm sure they already have the character arc and story for 5 if it is ever made. It's Bethesda, they do nothing fast lol
I wouldn’t mind some Easter eggs in future fallouts. Maybe having one show up as an NPC. Maybe not the mains but one of the sides. Like an older Dane showing up as a Paladin or Thaddeus popping up in a bar or something.
More than that, that particular song ("Maybe" by The Ink Spots) is *the first proper song in the entire series*. It's the one that opens up Fallout 1 during the intro cinematic. It'll live rent-free in memories of the fans of the original games forever. Iconic with a capital "I."
You know, it's really interesting to see how different the experience of watching the show is for someone with no prior knowledge of the Fallout world. I don't mean that in a bad way - it's actually really cool, and a testament to how good the show is. Because I know the different entities in the game; the Brotherhood, Vault-Tec, the Enclave, etc., that colors my impression of the characters. And that gave me some different surprises as they developed and the show threw twists at us, than what you're getting. We both get surprised, but in different ways! That's fantastic! Love the reactions.
Love the joke about being golden rule of the rule of the wasteland is to be sidetracked every dann time… this is the game in a nutshell and a great joke by the writers. You start out going on a mission, but Bethesda puts in all these side quests or little random locations and Easter eggs that have nothing to do with the plot but just distract you. Like stuff that’s just so random. There’s a place you can find in fallout 3 for instance that’s a giant Rube Goldberg machine made out of stuff you find in the world, all carefully set up.
It's funny that there IS such a huge bag that the squire carries, even the presence of the squire himself! It kinda represents the "encumbrance" that any player faces when carrying all the weapons options, ammo, gear etc. Lol 😆
The song "Maybe" was prominently featured in the first game. They really wanted to use "I Don't Want to Set the World On Fire," but the copyright holder asked for too much money, so they used "Maybe" instead. The thing in the water is a "centaur": an unholy merging of one or more humans and/or animals.
Norm “lacking enthusiasm” is probably representative of his exceptional Intelligence and perceptiveness; I’ve known super-bright people before who absolutely SUCKED at school and menial tasks because of a lack of challenge.
Live streams or playthroughs of you playing Fallout 3, Fallout 4 or New Vegas would be something I'd definitely watch. You would absolutely love the games and it would be awesome to experience the first time playing Fallout vicariously through you.
So I'm new here, this being my first show reaction to watch on the channel. And I just love your sense of humor and edits, and it's fun to see your reaction going into it completely blind, not knowing anything about the universe. I can also completely relate to how empathetic you are(you mentioned being "quick to empathize with people" when taking about Maximus within like 2 minutes of seeing him in episode 1), your love of Walton Goggins, and your love of animals. I'm here for it!
So fun fact about that music you're referring to at around the 13:48 mark when Lucy is playing around so nonchalantly with the head: That's not just random genre music used for ironic juxtaposition, oh no. That is "Maybe" by The Ink Spots, and it was used during the intro cinematic for Fallout 1 (way back in 1997). For those of us who were fortunate enough to get into the series with that first game, that song will always be our introduction or gateway to the Fallout world. It holds a very special place in my heart, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I couldn't help but get a case of the warm 'n' fuzzies when I heard it in that scene.
36:35 Great catch! Yeah, from what this show is saying, Coop is the original "Vault boy". You can even see it on the end credits for this episode. And the thumbs up he does was co-opted by Vault-tec and rebranded to be a "Do this if you see a nuclear bomb" thing.
41:00 the Slo Mo analogy is actually pretty accurate; the drug dispenser looked like Jet, which slows the users' perception of time. I think Post Apocalyptic Zeppelin opened the Reading & Leeds Festival in 1998
Great job and thanks for your thoughts! Before the innovation of barrel etching and cartridge. Expanding gas pellets could be almost anything, they were called “THE BLUNDER BUST”. So I suggest calling the fictitious pellet propeller a SALVAGE. Thanks again!
15:45 FUN FACT! Buying whole teeth was a real thing done before the early 1900's Before then there werent many options in dentistry so mostly they just pulled teeth They would buy and extract whole teeth to show off that the dentists *could* pull teeth whole without shattering them in the gums, a real problem back when being a dentist mostly was just hanging up a sign that says "dentist"
The inhaler drug that slows time seen in the first ep is called Jet and it's a straight narcotic, it's from the game. The drug that the Ghoul takes is an invention of the show that you will see what it does but there are separate things. Loving the reactions :)
12:16 what the guy inhaled in the vault was a drug called "Jet", it slows your perception of time and allows you to make more moves in the games, it's not shown or referenced anywhere in the show, so it's not a spoiler Also yes, the dude experienced being chopped in half in slow motion, lol
The drug the raider in the vault took is called "Jet". It's basically rage steroids, to improve your combat abilities. And YES, your character can get addicted to it in the game, so theyre actually like drugs too. However, ths drug that Cooper takes, is not the same thing, but i cant give out any information about it without spoilers. Its just also in the form of an inhaler. Hope that clears that up
The flashbacks and stuff in the vault are great. There's almost nothing before the bombs in fallout games, and little in actual active vaults besides the aftermath.

@@craigreipold3931 no I agree
The Ghoul angry about having to be sidetracked. In game that would be a Side Quest. It happens a lot. Kinda like when you go to start your coffee maker only to find you're out of coffee, you panic and hyperventilate, then prepare for a side quest of stopping at the Quick Mart for coffee before work.
The Super Duper Mart?
That's not really a side quest, more of a sub-objective. A side quest is anything that *doesn't* advance the main quest - so, in your example, if your spouse asked you to let your dog out while you were walking to the kitchen. :)
And after you filled up the coffee, the water is empty, then the trester is full and then the machine wants a cleaning.
@45:38 - In the first episode one of the guys ask why he is doing birthday parties, and the other one says "alimony". So at the time of the party, at least as far as those guys (and we) know, she is alive and they are divorced.
Just to give you an fyi:
The drug the raider took in the first episode is called "Jet" (there's multiple different drugs in the game you can use, and you character can even get addicted to, that give different buffs).
Nuka cola bottle caps are the currency of the wasteland. And yes, you are constantly getting sidetracked or attacked by insane things in the game.
Actually it's bottle caps period. Sunset sasperilla and vim caps work too.
@markcarpenter6020 oh ok. Never saw anything but nuka cola named sry 🤷♂️
@@Jeremy-83 no prob it's an easy mistake to make.
13:06 Ah yes. YumYum Deviled Eggs.
Main ingredient: Nitrates and nitrites
Best before: ~500 years after manufacturing date.
yum yum.
if you think products nowadays different think again. Xum yum more E123 in my food as stabiliser
I prefer a Salisbury steak or some Old Prospector pork'n'beans.
I've really enjoyed the resurgence of practical effects. CGI is great and all, but it will never be quite the same.
"you left the ghoul alive?"
"I had a flight to catch.'
Honestly the story this show weaves is so good. I think the first 4 episodes draw you in so deep that you can't get the last few episodes fast enough.
News to me. It was made out of flowers in F4.
You're so close to 100k subs! Feels like so long ago that you started The Expanse here.
It’s been a wild ride!
I love the Ghoul commenting on getting sidetracked by a side mission like you do in games, lol
The game is ultra violent and absurdly humorous. There's even a perk you can get in the game that makes everyone you shoot comically explode in a cloud of blood and guts with eyeballs and teeth exploding in 3D at your screen. Meanwhile, that 50s music is playing the whole time. Lol.
My favorite mod for Fallout 4 plays the car door open ding whenever the power armor is opened lol
I appreciate them delving into the pre-war culture, particularly the future version of the Red Scare and how films were being influenced to include subtle propaganda about individualism (in opposition to anything that might feel like socialism).
"Does shit like that happen in the games"
Oh yes.
The protagonist for each game is referred to as:
Fallout 1: The Vault Dweller
Fallout 2: The Chosen One
Fallout 3: The Lone Wanderer
Fallout New Vegas: The Courier
Fallout 4: The Sole Survivor
In Fallout 2 and Fallout New Vegas the protagonist is not a vault dweller.
34:13 Angie singing the melody for "In The Mood" made my day lol
Jonah Nolan is great at weaving different timelines to tell the story. Momento, the prestige, Westworld season 1, the entirety of Person of Interest. Along with his sucker punch twists.
With Cooper he also delivers on the "Hero living long enough to become the villain" which is just the best version he's done.
On the rehabilitation vs capital punishment, there truly some minds that connot be rehabilitated, im not saying we should just end them. But, some people, and some minds, cannot be fixed, and there are some crimes that take a specific type of evil within that cannot be rehabilitated.
"Think about it all the time". Yep, same way. It got me started on the game again, after a couple of years.
"These bugs, it's like Australia. I hate it!"

The Shows score is amazing. When Thaddeus shot that Gulper and Glen Miller started playing, that was hilarious.
Thadeus, Maximus's squire is such an arse-kissing, yes man. I love it. 😂😂
is he though? he actually has some proficiency as squire, does what the knight asks for, thinks on his feet, and doesn't betray his knight. make no mistake, tidus got killed by maximus, first injured due to maximus being daft, then by open betrayal.
and all of that after maximus swore to obey and got branded. no idea why ppl think maximus wasn't the one putting the razorblades in there. he skipped the line, wasn't ready for squireship, and I bet that's also partly why tidus treated him badly.
@@danii7584 Titus was a shithead, he was probably going to treat Dane equally shitty. Hell, it's not even implied he actually knows something happened to his first squire.
"I'm sworn to carry your burdens"
13:50 That is the type of music you can hear on the radio in the games.
More than that, that particular song ("Maybe" by The Ink Spots) is *the first proper song in the entire series*. It's the one that opens up Fallout 1 during the intro cinematic. It'll live rent-free in memories of the fans of the original games forever. Iconic with a capital "I."
Just a little appreciation for the editor of your videos. Very good and funny

FLG discovers there is a place for her in the Wasteland.
Yep, I agree. The mix between style, music, dark humor, and seriousness is what put this series on the top. It's special and unique
Hey! As An Australian we do NOT have bigs like that! Hope you come here to check it out for yourself 😂
Johnny Pemberton (Thaddeus) has the best girl scream I have ever heard after Jamie Lee Curtis hahahahah.
The thing in the water is a "centaur": an unholy merging of one or more humans and/or animals.
that water chip problem is from the first fallout game in 1997, the start of the whole franchise.
Heads off... er, hats off, to the editor on this video. "404 Head Not Found", Fallout Boy's head as a blocking graphic... nice work!
Awesome reaction, awesome shirt choice (Darth Vader). With your background I guess you're a big Star Wars fan? And your channel...so AWESOME!
The great thing about the games, is that you create your own character. You'll spend hour(s) designing the face, then almost never see it again.
"Absurd and dark and wonderful." Perfect description of Fallout.
So fun fact about that music you're referring to at around the 13:48 mark when Lucy is playing around so nonchalantly with the head:
That's not just random genre music used for ironic juxtaposition, oh no.
I think Post Apocalyptic Zeppelin opened the Reading & Leeds Festival in 1998
Lol the size of the bag is huge. Almost like the knights are supposed to carry it instead of the squires lol.
I believe the Gulper is based on an axolotl.
And she’ll find out more about them later 😊
34:50 you've got the best editor in the business! These shots never fail to get a giggle out of me.
Great job and thanks for your thoughts! Before the innovation of barrel etching

The editing is great in these.
The guy in the vault used a thing called jet which increases a person strength for a brief period.
I assumed it was Psycho, not Jet.
@shelbyseelbach9568 other reactors I've seen have been saying jet but yeah that's also a possibility.
@@shelbyseelbach9568Jet is inhaled, Psycho is _injected_

We had a really cool band teacher in Jr. High, with an awesome jazz band. In The Mood was a staple, and always brings me back.
15:45 FUN FACT! Buying whole teeth was a real thing done before the early 1900's
Before then there werent many options in dentistry so mostly they just pulled teeth
They would buy and extract whole teeth to show off that the dentists *could* pull teeth whole without shattering them in the gums, a real problem back when being a dentist mostly was just hanging up a sign that says "dentist"
good catch on the 404 being a reference to the code for not found
Great pleasure to see how people who never knew about this game are reacting on this quiet authentic series show.
The inhaler drug that slows time seen in the first ep is called Jet and it's a straight narcotic, it's from the game. The drug that the Ghoul takes is an invention of the show that you will see what it does but there are separate things. Loving the reactions :)
Titus couldn't shoot the bear because it bit down on the big gun and destroyed it.
12:16 what the guy inhaled in the vault was a drug called "Jet", it slows your perception of time and allows you to make more moves in the games, it's not shown or referenced anywhere in the show, so it's not a spoiler
Also yes, the dude experienced being chopped in half in slow motion, lol
Many missed why so many raiders are prisoners. Lucy literally used a tranquilliser gun. And many vault dweller thought bare handedy so many survived
Funny lil gal posted! Never have I clicked on a video so fast before! 😂
"He had a dual with the Ghoul" That is the content I come here for 🤣
The drug the raider in the vault took is called "Jet".
Wilzig is a scientist from a faction called the Enclave. Which they mention in one of the first two episodes. The Enclave is basically the remnants of the US government that survived the big bada booms
Well by now a fraction of that faction considering most already died.
I love how the six deviled eggs demonstrate just how optimistic and unprepared she was for this journey. Taking up all that room in her pack for such a small amount of food that is notoriously difficult to transport.
