Yes actually a 10 top 10 video. Finally. A TH-camr is not afraid to go to the most popular of statistically speaking algorithm TH-cam videos that there are top 10. I love watching these videos and I'm addicted to him when I see I binge all these videos once I find a TH-camr has them and watch all their you top 10 top whatever videos that they have. This is pretty cool. Looking forward to watching it anytime I see it on my list of recommendation videos to watch I go right to it and watch it good stuff can't wait and really shows up my day look forward to watching it makes my day good way to start the day too figure out the top 10s so before you go shopping you get the right games and go when they open so you get the best games for best price. Tip #1

Growing up a local pizza shop that was within walking distance had a small arcade inside and Yie Ar Kung-Fu was there. I spent so much money on that game but never got very far. Compilations are one of my favorite things to collect.

I think this list was brilliant. And the biggest surprise for me is Time Pilot I don't think I have ever played this and I was always in the arcades and now I really want to play it.
You mentioned Circus Charlie and that has some great memories. But Scramble has alot if emotional memories as when I went to my aunty (once a week) in her seaside shop she had Scramble (&space invaders, Defender and something else) which I played from the moment I got there to the moment I left and just hearing it brings the memories flooding back.
I think alot of people don't realise how much emotions can actually be associated with arcade games. I have alot of memories associated with many different arcade games from so many many years. Good times.

I would have to agree with your number one choice. Konami Classic is a rare underrated masterpiece hands down. Great review!

Time Pilot is my fave arcade title too and the PS version of it was incredible. I loved the Xbox Live Arcade version of it too. These classic arcade compilations are definitely my most played on any system. I'm a fan of the pinball compilations on the Xbox 360 too. Still love playing all the classics without feeding quarters in!

I remember being pretty excited to get Konami Arcade Classics when I got a PlayStation at the tail end of the 90's, as I love Gyruss. Picked it up in early 2000 when I found it at a local Software Etc. A few years ago, I got into buying arcade boards, and I ended up getting the JAMMA System 573 to play Konami 80's Arcade Gallery (Japanese name of KAC). It's really cool playing all those games in vertical orientation on that hardware.

Great list. Would like to see a Part 2 of the ones you didn't include. Some questions/comments...
    5) Where did you find the Namco Museum Vol. 2? The only ones I ever saw were Volumes 1 & 3, and even then they were the Greatest Hits editions.
    4) Saw it in the stores during the PS2 era. I ended up picking up the Atari Anthology for PS2. May try to find this one.
    3) I have this on PS1 and Saturn. Great collection.
    2) I have this one (along with Volume 1) in the Greatest Hits variety/version. Never could find the other three.
    1) I missed this back in the day. Went to look for it a few years ago and it was getting a good asking price (I want to say $50-60). May try to look it up again. Also, I remember playing Scramble at one of the local pizza joints back in the day, along with the Vectrex version.

Volumes 1 and 3 were reprinted so they were easier to find. I'm pretty sure I got my Volume 2 at FuncoLand.

It was clever of Namco to put big letters on their Namco Museum cases so when you bought all of the volumes and spread them out, it spelled 'Namco'. I was impressed too by how close to the arcade these versions were. Previous consoles that I'd played often had to change the arcade games to get them to play on their consoles.
Asteroids Deluxe was neat because of the background they put behind the graphics. I found it much harder than the first Asteroids, so I only played it once in a while. Centipede is one of my favorite arcade games ever - the first arcade game I got really good at. I wish every version of Centipede came with a trackball controller (or at least a coupon to buy one for a big discount) as the game really is at its best with a trackball. Gravitar is really interesting with its gravity well mechanic that makes it stand out among most space shooters even today.
Robotron is weird, but very fun it's so different from other shooters at the time. All of the Williams Arcade games are hard, but so awesome! Defender is one of those hard but super satisfying games.
Dig Dug is another of those games like Centipede where I actually managed to figure it out and got good enough at it to advance through levels at the arcade on one quarter. I love the music in the game too. Very different how the music plays when Dug moves and sounds like a banjo on consoles that can emulate the sound properly.
I haven't seen Scramble before. I'll have to look it up.

Phozon and Tower of Druaga were my favorites on the Namco Museum vol. 3 (aside from Ms Pac-Man, which goes without saying).
Regarding Scramble: always found it interesting how Konami acknowledged it as the foundation for Gradius in the Gradius Galaxies opening movie on the GBA, which showed the series’ timeline. Especially since they included Salamander on the timeline, but not the Parodius series.

The Achilles heal for almost all these games is the controllers. Missile Command without a trackball? Tempest without the spinner? Pole Position without the wheel? Pac Man series without a dedicated 4-way joystick? Perfect arcade graphics without arcade controls-many of these games were intensely frustrating.

    • @BrettWeissRetroGamer
      @BrettWeissRetroGamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I hear ya. That’s why I emphasized Black Widow and Asteroids. Controls work great for Time Pilot, Pooyan, and certain others as well. But you are definitely right about those games. Too bad there wasn’t a better trackball for the PS1.

@@BrettWeissRetroGamer Atari’s Dan Kramer, “inventor” of the 5200 trackball, told me he labored with the manufacturers of the Atari collection to make Missile Command and Centipede compatible with the PS1 trackball, but they were not to be bothered. The controller issue, in general, is still a huge issue for me. As I’m sure you know, almost all joysticks for modern consoles are 8-way “fighting sticks,” that ruin games like Lady Bug and everything in the Pac Man family, which require 4 way controllers. The controllers on Arcade 1Ups are mediocre at best….Namco (or is it Bandai?) offers a home cabinet that includes much of the Pac Man family of games. I played a display model at a convention. It features a PERFECT arcade 4-way joystick controller. But it also features a $2000+ price tag! I also agree that some of the classics aren’t affected by this joystick issue-Asteroids is a great example, it requires no joystick!

Hello I too grew up in the good ol days of classic games. Wanted to ask if you know of they had: berserk, star trek, omega race? Also, I feel the Atari classic anniversary collection sucks. For the simple reason, the interfering console display on the screen. I want the game to engulf the screen. Why do I need to see the damned console?
