  • Living in Las Vegas can cost more when your home is in an HOA, but where does all the money go? Contact 13 looks at who's getting a big slice of the pie in one of the largest communities in Southern Nevada.

I absolutely love watching these clips about HOAs. People pay money for other people to run their lives, steal their money, fine them for BS and foreclose on their home for owning $50 in fines. It's a hoot!!!

@@kenyettareadyand James Bailey. You both are right. First of all not many wealthy people and corporations pay their fair share in taxes. After paying taxes their entire working career citizens over 65 should be exempt from any type of tax. This is financed by making the rich pay their fair share.
Homeowners Associations are one of the todays biggest scams. Some people are paying $3,000 per year to have their streets plowed and to get harassed by power hungry morons. Why are these homeowners paying for services their city tax should cover? HOAs are just ways for developers to continue to soak money from their construction developments.

What was formed for nonprofit purposes has now become very, very profitable. Also, developers now tack on extra fees not just to pay back costs of community development, but now for pure profit. Many HOAs now pay for profit businesses to manage part or all of their nonprofit HOA organization. All these scenarios turn the nonprofit into a very lucrative for profit, but at the expense of the homeowner.

@@BernardBethea6339 i mean i dont really want to enter this debate but im a renter and the people across and beside me sit around on the porch smoking m-- and green all day. They are white. I think what most people think is an ethnicity thing is actually a low income and low income mentality issue. If someone spends $20 a day on garbage thats over $7,000 a year. Scratch offs, alcohol, cigarettes, narcotics, gambling/women and other vices. Ive met so many people that dont spend $20 a day on nonsense.. they spend $50 a day ($18,350 a year) and some as much as a $100 a day or more ($36,500+ a year). People with that lesser mentality arent usually upstanding citizens either. Usually everything about them kinda sucks. They dont care about their kids, their mom, their grandma, keeping the house and yard clean, advancing in a career, nothing. So yeah im not sure about the whole ethnicity thing but I think most people when they see the neighborhood going downhill they bail. Its sad that what I just typed is debateable, open to interpretation, or even controversial. It just IS. I’m 41 i’ve met and observed a lot of people. You can tell everything about someone by two things. #1 What drives them. #2 How they care (or dont) about those closest to them. If you ever meet anyone who those two things are out of whack run away as fast as possible.

this is why, its best to literally do almost every single thing yourself and to have a land patent on the land you own.
if this can come from a HOA just imagine what that person is doing with that cash, literally nothing for you, nothing for the poor, and definately nothing for those on fixed incomes.
so, once you have a land patent on a property, not even the HOA can take it without forging a document.

This is a theme which is common where the project developer creates and controls an HOA long afyer the project is completed and the developer has otherwise moved on to other projects. Developers view the HOA as a continuing source of income, largely extracting whatever they want without oversight, as they often control who is put on the board. Rarely, homeowners revolt and are able to take control of the HOA, The Del Webb Sun City organization has made an art of these practices and is big enough that they are able to avoid homeowner or governmental control.

I started house hunting a few months ago - on the back burner - and these videos I've seen over the years have prompted me to ask a critical question: this land is not in an HOA is it? My parents live in a community with a Homeowners Association, but it's $50 a year; and optional to join or not. I think their yearly budget is about $10k which keeps up the lighting, water and landscaping, and a yearly neighborhood party. No one is paid.

      Managing the city budget
      Overseeing city personnel
Addressing questions from the media regarding city council activities
Meeting with various heads of departments to identify and resolve issues
Making recommendations to the mayor and other city leaders on a variety of issues, including budgets, personnel needs and project costs
Ensuring completion of reports and studies commissioned by elected officials
Overseeing important services such as trash pickup and recycling programs
      Ensuring water supplies are safe
