I'm so surprised none of the reaction channels have gotten why Pearl watches Steven while he sleeps. It's because she's overprotective, and so far we've seen how much she likes to be in control, so she's like an overbearing parent with a newborn lol
Ok I think Pearl watched Steven sleep for the same reason a perent would be watchful of their newborn baby. She might get scared that Steven could get problems breathing while the gems are not around.
Not to mention that sleeping is a bizarre alien phenomenon to her.
@@AdmiralJota and the closest 'normal' comparison for a gem is being poofed where they are essentially in a state of internal stasis, aware of what's going on but unable to do anything (unless bubbled in which case time seemingly does not pass)
I mean the fear turned out to be valid this episode
ohh, thats a really good point that from the perspective of someone who doesnt need to breathe, they'd feel like they'd have to constantly make sure a person who does need to is always able to lol

19:02 You may have not heard Garnet say this when Steven stuck his head out when he sneezed, but she said "There's not much air out there. And it's very cold." Also, Steven's snot was frozen and she flicked the icicles away when she said that.
A lore note I find quite amusing: This episode still takes place during Steven's "1000 year TV ban," and so I feel like this plays a role in his decision to go get Sadie's help to watch this. (The other reason being that fact that... well, Steven at this time has- I think- started to catch on to the fact that his mother is a shaky topic amongst the Gems. Things are still too fresh.)

Yeah, i forget she’s damn tall, I know there’s an episode or two of Rose & Garnet in the same scene, might b a smidge taller than Garnet
I mean, what Dog Copter said about art is absolutely 100% spot-on. Even if you don't consciously or deliberately make a choice with the intent to make a statement, every aspect of your art does still make a statement, whether you intended it or not. People will interpret your art as they will based on what's there; it doesn't belong solely to the artist, nor the audience. Art is foremost a communication between artist and audience. The art is not the piece itself or purely its intentionality but rather something that exists in that middle space. Of course it's all subjective and there's a lot of nuance there, and each person and piece of art is different. Anyway, thanks for listening to my Ted Talk xD
Also, I think Pearl is just obsessively overprotective of Steven. It's very much in-character for her, and I find it hilarious.
For those with August birthdays, the birthstone of the month is Peridot, along with other gemstones called Sardonyx and Spinel. For April, the birthstone is Diamond 💎
Rose becoming Steven and becoming half human really speaks to the powers of life we've been shown so far that she's had, but its just another step up if what she was able to do, what Steven will be able to do. I cant wait until you guys get farther.
Yeah Steven accepting his end and then surviving is nuts! It’s such a life changing thing to go though. And not in a good way. I need therapy because of when something like that happened to me. It was years ago but I’m still different. 🤯
It is extremely traumatic. I used to work with an organization that tracked survivors of torture and the medical treatments they needed to recover from what was done to them. By far the most emotionally damaging thing, the thing that required the most intensive therapy after being subjected to it? Mock execution. It turns out that -- to our brains, at any rate -- even the most severe tortures really aren't a "fate worse than death." The experience of facing imminent death itself is what harms people's psyches the most.
I'm very sorry that happened to you, and I hope it continues to get easier to live with over time.
As Lu becomes the untrusted at the end, the same way Alec believes all the gems are lying and hiding the truth. But Lu's doing it so he doesn't spoil it and nothing nefarious.
What Rose said IS dark, tho. She basically committed suicide, and the fact that it resulted in Steven existing doesn't make it less concerning and dark.

We saw the sword in Lion’s mane dimension, so it makes sense he can take stuff out.

My favorite episode, when I knew this show was going to be special.
Actually, 2 days with zero sleep is absolutely enough to start mildly hallucinating. That said, Steven HAS slept a bit. Just very little and very sporadically.
I think that he was surprised that pearl didn't know, because that was a gem.droid or something and he thought that pearl would've known because she's the informational one

For any non-parents out there wondering why Pearl is watching Steven sleep, parents just like to watch their kids sleep sometimes. In a "wow, look how precious and peaceful my baby is" kind of way.

It took me watching this episode *several times* before I noticed this was a hidden joke 14:37 set up 17:40 pay off
Haha, yeah! Amethyst eating the macaroni cheese powder, then Steven eating "macaroni and nothing" because she ate all the cheese... Yeah, I'd be annoyed too, even if I wasn't going on 48 hours of sleep deprivation, fear, paranoia, and a highly-probable cause for worry about danger to my world and galaxy as I know it.

Probably just a safety reminder for kids and/or to avoid making kids want to try pulling hot things out of the oven. Other than that, it's just a visual cue that reminds the audience that the cookie tray is still hot and just came out of the oven; if she were touching it with bare hands we wouldn't get that impression. I DID have the same thought tho, and I still think it's funny!

I thought ep 36 was alone together. Maybe they played out of order originally. Make sure when you were having trouble playing the second one that you didn't accidentally skip one.

Augh yeah this also confused me because my episode collection has Alone Together first. I think it was something about original airing order... But honestly... I could totally see this episode being before Alone Together, specifically with the potential threat of invading Gems from the Gem Homeworld looming over all of them right before they choose to do the very specific Training Session they have in the next episode.
I mean Alec is right there is something darker about it. Gems are their gems, and Rose's gem is in Steven
