Now that you know all about casual Fridays and the Aloha shirt check out this video and find out about The Surprisingly Recent Invention of the T-Shirt: th-cam.com/video/abJ0v2ttQr0/w-d-xo.html
I lived in Hawaii for three years...I now own over 70 Aloha shirts that vary in design and color...and YES, as a government worker, I (and many others) proudly wear our shirts each Friday...there is even a "contest" on who wears the loudest shirt that week...I have told my wife that when I die, that everyone should wear an Aloha shirt to my funeral...if they do not have one, then give them one of my collection...my father passed away in 2006, and was cremated wearing his favorite red Aloha shirt..that is why I want to carry on the tradition...also because I LOVE Aloha shirts...
The first official Aloha Week was in October 1947, and most businesses shifted to alohawear for all employees for that one week. In turn, by the middle to late 1950s, there already were mandated changes to aloha shirts (but not really colorful ones) for some government male employees for the summer months. In about 1965, Aloha Friday was expanded into Aloha Summer. The end result is that the only men in Hawaii who wear suits to work today are lawyers who will be appearing in court.
Hey, old person here. I haven't ever had (35 years) to wear a suit to work, they wanted my talent more than they wanted to mess with my wardrobe. Now I'm retired and nothing has changed. Hah!
Curiously there's something similar at schools in Guatemala, you can choose not to wear the school uniform, using jeans and shirts... I wonder if Guatemala and probably other countries were also affected by this or if companies in their own countries followed the same strategy

Employees might get distracted too much and not do their job.

In Alaska we wear Kuspuks. They are more comfy compared to Aloha shirts.
