    What impresses me about so many VCS/2600 ports is how well they were refined and tweaked, to make the gameplay really good. Not too difficult, but with the feel of the arcade. Smooth, playable, fun; it must have been so much work to get the games just right before release. Good game!

      Fabiano Barcelos Every version has it's owns.
      C=64 and TI-99 have better sound.
      5200/8-BIT has a better and more ''rude'' patrol style.
      MSX look pretty sweet and also that ''lose'' sequence is good.

      Actually, no. The best is not featured in this video. It is "Vector Patrol", a current-era addition to the Vectrex library. Expanded cut scenes and music, stunning graphics and a battery backed cartridge that saves high score and level times. Look it up, you'll see what I mean. It easily beats the arcade version.

    Although it was done in at least one previous game (Jump Bug), this game right here helped spread Parallax Scrolling in the videogames, simply one of my favorite visual effects. :)

      @bjbell52 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottbreon9448 LOL - we must have lived on different planets. Everyone that I knew had Apple computers. They used them for games. Their hi-res graphics mode had 6 colors, which was very good at the time. When I bought my Atari 400 the only documentation was that it could only put 4 colors on the screen at the same time. When the doc's finally came out and people could see to excellent graphics it could do, the Apple became a business computer.
      BTW - The Atari 800 could make a superior business / educational computer than the Apple. It ran 80% faster and it could put a 40K program into a 16K cartridge leaving 32K ram for the program. It's not as if by magic the Apple was somehow better just because it had an Apple logo on it.

    Great compare vid as always, but as you've sometimes done in the past, this one could use an update...hmmm a 5th Anniversary Update?? One of the best ports of this game was released recently, and VERY much deserves to be compared to the rest.
    That would of course be the Vectrex version "Vector Patrol" from Kristof Tuts (aka Tutstronix) Unbelievable attention to detail, faithful gameplay, non-volatile high score save on cartridge, and a 3D record-breaker cut-scene that the coders of the arcade originals would salivate over.
    I know your video pre-dates the game by half a decade, but it really should get a late-date addition to your fine work.

      These comparsion videos are like phrases out of context. The ports make more sense when experiencing them together with the hardware that rendered them. This was an adequate solution for the clumsy monstrosity that was the PC back then. Most of the machines didn't have color monitors and the sound was a lot more subtle comping from the beeper buried inside the computer (like the true vanilla IBM configs the developers usually aimed for at the time).

    Wow, the C64 version has upwards shots about 4 times faster than any of the other versions, including the arcade! Funny that the Colecovision version (prototype) is so much better than the Texas Instruments TI-99/4a version considering they use the same video chip and the TI is using a quasi-16 bit CPU comparted to the CV's Z80. I guess nobody ever made an Amiga version?
