- Our Australian team are converting their first Mini, for Mini. Follow the process through internal combustion removal and the first stages of our EV system install.
In this inaugural video of our Mini Series, we'll show you how to turn a classic Mini into electric without losing any of its charm.
We'll start by taking a look at our lovely 1995 Rover Mini, which is imported from Japan and in great condition.
Then, we'll show you all the components required for the conversion, which are all included in the Fellten Mini System.
We'll focus on removing the internal combustion engine, exhaust pipe, and fuel tank. Once those are out of the way, the installation of the conversion system is a breeze, as you’ll see in the next episodes.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show as much as we love converting this British Icon!

Looking forward to Part 2!
Part 2 is now out.
I've seen a few bolt in kits but that is very, very well engineered. Impressed 👌🏻
Thank you. We aim to be the best in the market. If your going to do a job do it right. Plus 3 year full system warranty.
Great video showing a lot of the details of the kit. Looking forward to seeing part 2 and the installation
Not long now it’s all been filmed
I am super impressed with the chosen components and engineering to make it look bolt on and OEM!
That’s our target so means a lot for people to notice. It was developed for BMW and signed off. Even have a 3 year warranty in place now.
@@FelltenSystems hats off impressed. Slow clap.
Lookibg forwards to part 2. Mate of mine has just restored his '64 mk1 that he's had since 1985. 850cc, flat out at 75mph, drum brakes all round and no seat belts. Best fun you'll ever have with your clothes on😂
They are great fun. After driving our ev Porsche and Landrover’s, I pick the mini every time there is just some special about them.
That's a real proper retrofit kit!
Thanks
Fantastic and informative video
Great vid, thanks for sharing and look forward to pt2
Thank you
Fantastic project, bring the following parts asap!
Not long now
This was awesome, can't wait to see that Mini drive with the extra torque from an electric motor. :D thanks for sharing!
It is even more fun than originally now it’s electric ⚡️
@@FelltenSystemsI don't doubt it!
Great engineering ❤
Looking at you in the driving seat, you might want to replace that part. The head-rest has become a shoulder rest!
That's me in most old cars.
My friend has had a variety of mini's over the last 30 years. Fun cars but yes the gears were hit and miss in some of them 😂. Looking forward to seeing you convert and drive this one.
Not long now until part 2
My older sister had a late 70s Mini Cooper S, lowered and widened. Was a nice little fast car. All this was a ton of fun until one day a horrible BMW driver hit me in the front, all while ignoring my right of way. Sure he paid up (his insurance) but that was that... so sad, it was totalled and was no more. How I wish she still had it.
That’s unfortunate, the same thing happened to me in my 88 flame red mini after just doing a full rebuild 15 years ago. But managed to get behind the wheel of them again now with these kits. Thanks chris
@@FelltenSystems Cheers, Robert
Have you ever driven a classic mini before sure the gearboxes are a bit finicky but once you’ve driven one for a while you get used to how to use it and love it
This was Daves first time. Myself (Chris CEO) have had 5 classic minis over the years and you learn to love them and all there litter quirks. But I have to say fully electric is a new world I love it even more.
Looks fabulous, sounds like it drives really well, I drive an EV and choosing was made a lot easier as so so many I ruled out straight away, similar to that conversion, who thought it was a good idea to have the transmission selector back to front..! Boats have this logically laid out as forwards goes forwards and vice versa, assume it would be fairly easy on the “retro fit” to swap this around..? 🤔
On the test drive I thought your opinion of the change quality of the AP gearbox was a bit unfair. This gearbox originated in the early to mid 60's I think it was the first 4 speed automatic gearbox. Certainly the automatic gearbox in sump was a first but these gearboxes need a lot of loving care. Very VERY frequent oil and filter changes otherwise they deteriorate quickly and certainly no match for a modern automatic gearbox. It is what it is and was well suited for an urban run around but things have moved on thankfully.
That top of dash padding is really hard to get off without taking the windscreen out - good luck.
Electric Mini is a great idea.
tell us about it.
R50 ie ‘new gen’ Mini yes but not these. Too expensive and not safe enough.
Great vid, love the mini, is there a way that I can buy the original dash and gauges from you guys??
Drop sales team an email and can see if there available
@@FelltenSystems hey mate, I sent them an enquiry but didn’t hear back
What ever happened with the Renault twizy upgrade ?
We could not make it work financially at the time.
👍💪✌
👍
Is there anything for the big cars of the 70s?
We have a 'universal' battery box that fits almost anywhere a v8 motor went. 400v 55kWh
Total madness. £50,000 sterling to convert a mini to electric with 100 mile range (on a good day.) And it's a good day to you cobber, I'll keep my cash, thanks all the same.
Hmmmm.....remove the back seats and.....plenty of room for a 4WD Mini! 🤔
We have considered that 😂
I would have actually liked to have seen the actual tear down instead of a vlog of a guy giving us an overview review of an old classic mini and then random b roll footage of a few interior pieces.
It's hard to do the work and film the work as a small business. As in, it takes people away from billable work (or emails). There's a bunch more actual work in the episode to come, but also more of a guy driving
$70,000 Australian for the conversion!
Not for the average Mini owner, for sure. For that money I'd rather have an MG4 or even a Tesla Model 3 to drive to work and rebuild the original engine in your classic Mini for weekend drives.
I said the same thing about a similar conversion on another YT channel. This is just a plaything for the rich. What is really needed is a set of drop-in kits for cars whose engines are no longer economical or high mileage, but the car itself itself is still viable with plenty of life left. Eg a Mini R50, so many early ones suffered head gasket issues; but the car themselves could have 50k miles left. A drop in kit for £12k would make for a good 100 mile range runaround or short commuter. And still half as cheap as the nearest cheap EV! £1500 for a decent base car plus the £12k to convert. Last for years. That’s sustainability.
We will eventually get there but need to prove out systems and fine tune before we ramp into mass market
@@FelltenSystems good for you, excellent vision
Out of interest, what was happening to the Dodge RAM?
No EV conversion I'm afraid. Though it is a mild hybrid.
£40,000?
Plus the car.
@@FelltenSystems £8-10 grand for a viable base vehicle in the U.K. - £50k for a 30 year old Mini (last production models)? Only for virtue-signalling celebrities I think.
It's so damn annoying. An EV Mini - like a new one, not a conversion - is a no brainer. An EV VW Bug and Bus is a no brainer. Not super high tech - ideally something that is designed to repairable by independent gararages. I'm absolutely positive there's a huge market for it.
But no. All just massive SUVs. Sigh.
Buses and bugs are too expensive now and anything cheap is rotten and needs restoring. Should be looking at drop in kits for 10-15year old vehicles with high-mileage unviable engines, but with lots of lie left in the vehicle overall. eg Mini R50, drop in kit for say £12000. £2000 for base vehicle, convert to EV for £12000…total cost less than half a new EV for a decent runaround with 100 miles range? CAN interface to fool the ECUs would be cheap enough when in scale production. Sustainability needs to be democratised. This is a plaything for the rich.
@@sprint955st No, I mean new ones. Not conversions. See also the Mazda Miata.
@@KevinLyda oh yes I re-read. We’re on the same page I think, but other less niche appeal models too…e.g. Honda Civic early 2010s….safe and boring yes but plenty of high-mileage examples still in otherwise good condition. Don’t scrap them; re-power them.
Why buy a Mini conversion from somebody who cannot spot an aftetmarket stereo head unit?
Deleting the spare wheel is disappointing, especially given that it's one of the few points of failure remaining in an EV.
Do you really want to call a tow truck every time you get a puncture?
There is always some compromise with conversions. But no spare is common these days.
@@FelltenSystems "no spare is common these days." That's one of the good reasons to have an older car in the first place, along with bumpers that bump, fenders that fend and ashtrays for the kiddies.
How much did that example cost to land in Australia? $40k?
