The anime was kind of a bad actor though since they put Robin in the opening like an entire arc before she actually joined. While she was still in Baroque Works. I'm STILL shaking my head over that.
@@sandenson Pretty sure that in a few months time, Bonney will get her eyecatcher in the anime's Egghead arc - which will start the speculation all over again.
Man, Alabasta was such an interesting arc for Luffy. Vivi managed to pull out a lot of unexpected moments with him and it served to flesh out his maturity as a captain.
Nothing made me more disappointed than finding out that she wouldn’t join the crew. However I can understand why she stayed behind and I hope that the more recent chapters reveal more about her role in the arcs to come
On the Mrs. Wednesday thing - Vivi was always planned to be a character. Originally vivi and Wednesday were separate characters but when Oda was drawing whisky peak he noticed that Wednesday looked really similar to his sketches of Vivi so he decided to merge them that’s why during reverse mountain when we see her first her evil facade never breaks or softens even a little for the reader to maybe pick up on her having mixed motivations - at that point in Oda’s head, she was still Mrs Wednesday
love love love Vivi! I was so happy when you addressed her story in relation to Nami’s. It struck me, because Oda wrote Nami & Vivi’s interactions in a way that felt natural, which was something I never expected to appear in a shounen manga. When Nami witnessed Vivi’s reaction to Igaram’s (indefinite) passing, instead of only being there to console her, she understood the burden Vivi was put under just from observing her facial expression. And another moment that shook me was when Nami confronted Miss Doublefinger despite her being the direct subordinate of a !!! warlord !!! It was a huge jump from every enemy she faced beforehand - and yet, she still persevered. Despite taking hit after hit, Nami would quite literally dig her heel into her opponent because Vivi’s own fight, own pain, gave her the strength to do so. The emotional intelligence conveyed there, and throughout One Piece as a whole will never cease to amaze me. Amazing video! 💙
I honestly wish Vivi got more 'badass' moments in Alabasta. But Alabaster was a moment where all the Staw Hats leveled up. I think Vivi brought this real sence of 'noble royalty' to the story.
@@langadube9611 she's cool but I see no reason for her to travel with the Strawhats aside from temporarily. Most likely gonna end up with Vegapunk or the revolutionary army
They said that Vivi will always be their partner, so im sure she will join them one day. She is a D, so she is related with Luffy and she is the last descendant of Nefertari Lyly. There´s so much potential in her character.
When I started the anime and saw Vivi and Karoo's eyepatcher, I was so convinced they would join the crew. To this day, I still like to consider them Straw Hats, official or not.
I already adored Vivi but damn if this didn't point out even more reasons to love her 😭 I can't believe her parallels to Luffy flew over my head but that's so true aaaaa
Very much recently Luffy said "full stop on the Final Saga, we're going back to Alabasta" simply because he was worried about her after the events of the recent Reverie.
20:09 this is especially true during the reverie. Despite Mjosgard and the straw hat grand fleet protecting Shirahoshi, Vivi seeks out Garp, the hero of the marines for his protection and worries about Shirahoshi no matter what happens to her.
A youtuber theorized that Vivis arc might culminate to her being the voice of the new world from a political aspect and that could be quite the development when you consider she'd have gone to not having a voice to save her country to having a voice to help usher in the new world.
Thank you for the Vivi praise I think she’s an incredible character in an amazing arc The only stuff I ever hear about her online and from my own friends is either just “she sucks” “she’s annoying” “crybaby” “she’s whatever” And it sucks to see her reduced to slander undeservedly.
I'm glad that Vivi had more relevance to One Piece than just Arabasta and the previous arcs she was in and in a meaningful way at that, gotta hand it to Goda for always doing such amazing work and characters.
Vivi was always my favorite since her debut. Some fans tried to convince me she's not good enough as a female character in a lot of ways but they can't convince me for that.
Yeah, I don't really get people who would dislike Vivi. She's one of my favourite characters in the entire series and depending on the day you'd ask, my favourite Strawhat.
i really hope vivi ends up being a proper strawhat by the end of egghead lol. there has to be a reason we're jumping around so much this arc. meaning im just waiting for her to show up with morgans lmao.
I did not see her as a Mary sue in the Arabasta Ark but a helpless normal princess, but she have a heart and she is smart. Also I think Vivi and Nami are the 2 version of OP's original Female Lead. I forgot that sky blue haired girl in the original OP but yeah, Vivi reminds me of her. So if Vivi ended up being one of the important catalysts in OP's final fight/war then I won't be surprised. (CoughalsoifsheendedwithLuffycough).
Thank you for this vid, ppl overlook Vivi way too much, i was alreaady on love with One Piece way before Alabasta, but Alabasta, Vivi and her story solidified how good One Piece was going to be. It was the first arc that showed how ambitious the story telling was going to be, and just how well thought out this story was. But getting back on Vivi there is something you already mentioned in your "women of One Piece vid" about Vivi that is very true. Vivi is not just a damsel in distress, she is actively making moves to make sure Alabasta doesn't fall in Crocodile's hands, she was the heart of the story along with Luffy during this section, and she was shown to be just as important as Luffy. She didn't just react to the plot she was a driving force in her own atory, which is foundemental in setting her apart from one of the many damsel in distress. She was the reason why i was so invested in Alabasta, and why to this day Alabasta is my fav arc along Wano, and to this day my fav ending to an arc.
Vivi’s dream has always been to protect her country. Now that the best way to protect Alabasta as the war ramps up is to ally herself with the Straw Hats, I have hope.
If Vivi is going to be the last strawhat (yes please) it had better be soon. We are in the final saga already, and I desperately want to see her interactions with the crew!
Amazing video as always! It really hits home what Vivi's strengths are. People say she wouldn't have much of a place as an asset to the crew after her choosing to stay in Alabasta. But honestly Vivi's empathy and knowledge of the other kingdoms could've made so many future arcs easier, due to her being a known figure of peace as well as a royal who cares, much how Dalton reacted to Vivi which was a great boon for the Straw Hats getting support for Nami. Outside of that I do think people don't think much of Vivi, due to she isn't a "fighter" by their definition. They think of her alot like Rebecca, a pacifist princess who isn't allowed to fight or get a win. In both cases I would say those views are a bit skewed as Rebecca wasn't dainty or weak at all, the whole point of her not fighting was due to her parents never wanting her to know how it felt to take another's life. With Vivi it would just be plain wrong, Vivi is fighting every step of the way since her introduction as Miss Wednesday. We knew as a child she would constantly get into fights, Zoro at Whiskey Peak, she is the one who saw through Miss Golden Week's paint and got Luffy out of the first trap, she and Nami knocked Miss Valentine out of the way from hurting Ussop and she went for sickest killshot against Crocodile in Alabasta. Vivi will always fight, she might not get the absolute win but that doesn't make her less of a fighter. She has limitations just like everyone on the crew, Sanji isn't considered less of fighter for not being able to fight women, Nami not being able to take down Big Mom at Onigashima doesn't make her any less of a fighter, Luffy not being able to win instantly against any arc villain doesn't make him less of a fighter, and Vivi shouldn't be considered less of a fighter. She will always fight with her whole self, be it against those threatening the lives those she loves or those who would allow injustices. Again great video! I am missing Vivi alongside everyone and can only hope we will sail with her again soon!
What part was supposed to trick me into thinking this would be a Luffy video? (Checks video catalogue) Oh yeah, we have covered every other Straw Hat, huh? Anyway, it's Vivi time!!! Can't wait for her to rejoin the crew and can't wait to hear Melon's thoughts on her!
This is beautiful and so timely! I keep imagining the ways Vivi could return to the SHs. My favorite is the Sunny either coup de bursts or gets yeeted into the sky toward Elbaf -- right on a collision course with Morgans' airship. Cue the Enel face all around as the Sunny *just misses* crashing into Morgans and daring Vivi jumps out of the blimp and right into the waiting arms of the crew. And Luffy says "And that's 10! Now I have my crew."
Oh that parallel between Sanji's arc in Whole Cake Island and Vivi's during Alabasta, my heart. This is why I always LOVE your character analysis, you manage to find those things I've not noticed yet that make me appreciate the story even more than I already do!
when i started one piece, i was only there for the fights and the cool moments and didnt really aprichiate Vivi (but i still cryed at the iconic scene) but now as i learned to understand the deep themes that goes into the characters i can finally (also thanks to the video) love this character and see her as the truly strong character that she is
Thank you for making this video about Vivi! You truly understand her character and why she has fans. I can only hope her haters watch this video to finally understand her as well. A lot of one piece fans may find it strange that Vivi is my favorite female character and not Nami, Robin or Boa but its more than flashing abilities, looks and so called "usefulness". She's a strong character that exhibits main character/heroine energy and it's because of how dimensional Oda has taken her character and the flaws she has.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video, I feel seen here! Vivi is my favourite One Piece character and the alabasta saga is the saga that REALLY pulled me into the world of one piece and kept me reading for the rest of it. Vivi is an absolutely incredible character, and by god she IS a straw hat damn it!!
I'm really happy this video exists. Nefertari D. Vivi is top 10 characters for me if not top 5, and she doesn't get much attention imo. WE NEED MORE VIVI IN OUR LIVES DAMMIT
17:39 This part really stuck with me and I'd really like to add to this by pointing out that aside from that moment in Amazon Lily, Luffy does this again by bowing to & asking for help from the fishmen to donate blood for Sanji during the beginning of the Fishman Island arc.
Amazing. Simply beautiful. Thank you for this. Vivi is my second favorite character next to Luffy, and it's great to see her get the love she deserves. Also, I believe Crocodile was deceiving the Marines as well about his takeover, and did not have their backing, which is why he created a secret organization and a secret identity. Especially considering Alabasta's status as a founding country to the world government itself. He even wanted Alabasta because he believed Pluton was buried there, and wanted to establish his own pirate kingdom to fight the government. Still, being warlord allowed him a blanket to hide behind more easily aince he didn't have to specifically dodge marines. Doffy had the while celestial dragon thing, so he framed taking Dressrosa as him retaking his rightful kingdom. Again, great video about best girl.
I liked Vivi when I first watched One Piece as a 14 year old. Rewatching a couple of years back in my late 20s was when I realized what a great character she is, love to see she getting some love. Looking forward to the Kuma video as well, I know it's coming and getting my tears ready for that.
I never get the Mary sue haters. She's such an amazing character. Compared to ray in the new star wars, it's obvious how much a well written and relatable character means. That being said being just always perfect and on top is cathartic to an extent.
Damn, I never noticed the connection between what happened at Drum Island and Amazon Lily. Great observation! Vivi is going to be the Straw Hat lookout I'm betting my life savings on it.
This video made me tear up at certain moments. Alabasta is probably the only arc i have yet to rewatch/read, and its for the simple fact of the matter that my memory and experiences with this arc is perfect. This is the arc that made me realize Oda is on the level of Tolkein. I dont wanna jeopardize my experience with the arc with fresh eyes… at least not for awhile longer. This video really summed up why Alabasta is amazing, and why Vivi is perfect.
I've been slowly watching One Piece for the first time and, last year, I watched the entirety of the Alabasta arc right before finals. Vivi is a character that deeply resonated with me even if not because I found her 100% relatable. She's just that well written and her goodbye from the Straw Hats, that entire scene, broke my heart. Seeing that clip again in your video almost made me tears up.
an editor told oda that he should do something more with vivi instead of her just being a one-off villain, so oda made her into the awesome princess we know today.
I have a funny detail to add to the "whell of the strawhats" bit, but the chapters where they go to meet Gaimon are canon for a reason, it was to show that not everyone that Luffy likes and asks to join the crew actually joins, Vivi was just the second one, but the first to truly hurt.
She isn't unofficial, she's a former official member & it's clear that Luffy still views her as a strawhat, not just a friend, but a strawhat who simply separated
The Vivi video is real!!!!! But in all seriousness, thanks for all the love and hard work you put into all of these videos. I hope your future is filled with blessings and love.
I'll tell you what, when I was going through One Piece for the first time, I really grew to like Vivi. I was certain that she was going to be the next Straw Hat, things were certainly pointing in that direction. So colour me shocked when One Piece's OP3 dropped, showing Robin as a new member of the crew... BEFORE ALABASTA WAS OVER. That was a real lesson to me in skipping the intros of each episode.
I'd like to add that with every island that we've visited that hasn't had a change of way before the straw hats show up, Vivi is literally one of the only characters who proactively challenges the power struggle going on. Where others have waited for that moral boost luffy gives, she was already on the move dispite her stength. you gotta clap for that
I want vivi to join back up with the crew so badly 😫and I can’t wait until she does especially since it now seems like the situation is almost perfect for it considering Imu wants her and therefore most likely puts Alabasta in danger which means the only way for her to be protected from that while also eliminating the threat to Alabasta is to join up with an emperor like Strawhat in order to defeat that enemy. Also Imu killed her father or was atleast responsible for it so joining Luffy would also be the best way to get ‘revenge’ for that.
Luffys change in wano makes him a hero though he’ll never admit it. When he’s talking to Kaido in the final strike he says he wants to create a world where everyone can eat as much as they want. Which flips when Luffy said “Hero? No! We're pirates! I love heroes but I don't wanna be one! Do you know what heroes are? Say there is a chunk of meat. Pirates will have a banquet and eat it but heroes will share it with other people. I want all the meat” this realization of his true ideals probably is what awakened joyboy
This is absolutely one of my favourite videos of yours. IMMEDIATELY. I was grinning eat to ear throughout the entire thing! I love Vivi so so so much 💕💕
omg so many people dont appreciate vivi thank you for this video. ive seen so many people who think her character exists for the sake of the other people in the world, and while its part of vivi's character that shes selfless and puts everyone else first, which can be seen as being a 2d plot device type character, its that vivi herself cant be selfish at all and puts the world on her shoulders. i hope that when she inevitably reunites w the straw hats she lets herself be selfish and go on adventures w the crew and learn that the world doesn't rest on her shoulders. i mean, oda has put her back in play. she is wandering the seas hiding from the government. its only a matter of time til morgan's airship passes by where luffy is. i can only hope that that happens during or on the way to elbaf since itd be nice to see the giants on little garden reunite w not just the current crew, but vivi as well
I cannot be convinced that she is not going to join the straw hats permanently. She is also the first and only one who I actually truly do want to join the straw hats after Jimbei.
While Vivi wasn’t my favorite character, I did like her. It was nice for Nami to have a girl friend and I got attached to her after she was part of the crew when Chopper joined and then into Alabasta, it felt natural she’d leave to become a pirate. So when she didn’t that was a surprise. But that last scene where the crew gave their farewell to her raising their arms still gets me.
Everything about Vivi and the Alabasta arc in general was just so awesome. I'm happy to see her come back on scene. And, to think Oda decided to make her out of ms Wednesday mostly by accident speaks big about his talent as a story writer.
Fun fact when Oda draws onepiece he some times has to step away from the art because it is so god damn sad and Vivi yelling stop fighting 26:38 is one of them

@@jackroberts2704 with Kuma's fruit as a power up👀(iykyk)
Tattoo is still there she's a straw hat
@@falconeshield an honorary member, but I’m fine with that. After all, she still has a purpose in the story and that’s all that matters
I swear Melon is just prolonging the Luffy analysis. Karoo is gonna get his own analysis at this point
Karoo analysis? LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The stocks of Vivi fully joining the Straw Hats are mighty high right now, but Karoo stocks are dipping as well. Truly an unfortunate development.
If anything happens to Karoo I’m gonna go crazy.
Now that Vivi has been done, we NEED a in depth analysis of the goat, the guy so amazing that his name is Sir, Sir Crocodile.
Honestly that makes Vivi seem even stronger as a person, being able to hold character that way. Bit of Watsonion/Doyalist coming out
love love love Vivi! 💙
Luffy's bowing to express thanks for Boa sisters was so well done.
Something Luffy learned frok so long ago
I honestly wish Vivi got more 'badass' moments in Alabasta.
But Alabaster was a moment where all the Staw Hats leveled up. I think Vivi brought this real sence of 'noble royalty' to the story.
This whole video is essentially why I believe that Vivi is the last strawhat
Maybe but Bonney stocks are looking up.
@@langadube9611 she's cool but I see no reason for her to travel with the Strawhats aside from temporarily. Most likely gonna end up with Vegapunk or the revolutionary army
@@langadube9611 I think Bonney's gonna join Straw Hat Alliance along with Vegapunk, Sentomaru, and Kizaru
They said that Vivi will always be their partner, so im sure she will join them one day. She is a D, so she is related with Luffy and she is the last descendant of Nefertari Lyly.
There´s so much potential in her character.
Vivi has always been one of my favorite characters. This character analysis is a wonderful testament to her nature and love. Incredible job!!
I need to start putting Vivi with my favorites when I’m asked about my favorites. Idk why i don’t, i smile whenever i see her
When I started the anime and saw Vivi and Karoo's eyepatcher, I was so convinced they would join the crew. To this day, I still like to consider them Straw Hats, official or not.
@nathandaniels20 she is a D. Give her time
I already adored Vivi but damn if this didn't point out even more reasons to love her 😭 I can't believe her parallels to Luffy flew over my head but that's so true aaaaa
Vivi has always been one of my favorite Straw Hats and characters in general
Tricked us? Oh Melon. We know the Luffy video will take a while. Please, take all the time you need.
Given what is now happening in the story, I think it's clear she'll soon be reunited with her crewmates and I, for one, am so excited
A youtuber theorized that Vivis arc might culminate to her being the voice of the new world from a political aspect and that could be quite the development when you consider she'd have gone to not having a voice to save her country to having a voice to help usher in the new world.
Thank you for the Vivi praise
I think she’s an incredible character in an amazing arc
The only stuff I ever hear about her online and from my own friends is either just “she sucks” “she’s annoying” “crybaby” “she’s whatever”
And it sucks to see her reduced to slander undeservedly.
Even when she’s far away from her crew, she’ll always help them wherever she can.😺
Yeah, I don't really get people who would dislike Vivi.
Vivi is great! I love her relationship with the strawhats, specially nami and luffy.
You know a character is loved when over 20 years later and such a large group of the community still wants that character to join the main crew 🩵
Vivi’s dream has always been to protect her country. Now that the best way to protect Alabasta as the war ramps up is to ally herself with the Straw Hats, I have hope.
The scene with viv just screaming desperately into a unending warfare will forever be one of my favourite scene in anime
If Vivi is going to be the last strawhat (yes please) it had better be soon. We are in the final saga already, and I desperately want to see her interactions with the crew!
Fr....it's going to take a couple side quests to get her situated. Call me greedy but I want to see her in a movie too.
I really hope Nami gets to meet her "Roommate" again, they are such good gal pals
They are just 2 adult women who just happen to sleep in the same room
and they were roomates
Oh that parallel between Sanji's arc in Whole Cake Island and Vivi's during Alabasta, my heart.
This is why I always LOVE your character analysis, you manage to find those things I've not noticed yet that make me appreciate the story even more than I already do!
when i started one piece, i was only there for the fights and the cool moments and didnt really aprichiate Vivi (but i still cryed at the iconic scene) but now as i learned to understand the deep themes that goes into the characters i can finally (also thanks to the video) love this character and see her as the truly strong character that she is
Fell in love with Vivi as Miss Wednesday so been looking foreward to this
I hope that Vivi goes to Raftel with the rest of the crew.
I absolutely wave the Vivi flag. I got so excited seeing her again and I look forward to her importance for the rest of the story.
Vivi and Nami friendship gotta be the best female friendship in one piece, the fact they balance each other so well
Her final story/speech at the end of Alabasta is one of my favorite monologues in the entire series.
We're definitely getting a merry video before luffy's aren't we ??
Thank you SO MUCH for this video, I feel seen here! Vivi is my favourite One Piece character and the alabasta saga is the saga that REALLY pulled me into the world of one piece and kept me reading for the rest of it. Vivi is an absolutely incredible character, and by god she IS a straw hat damn it!!
vivi's my absolute favorite in the series and this instead of a luffy one made my day
Vivi is my favorite One Piece character by far. I am so excited what she will have to offer.
I'm really happy this video exists. Nefertari D. Vivi is top 10 characters for me if not top 5, and she doesn't get much attention imo. WE NEED MORE VIVI IN OUR LIVES DAMMIT
She was about to have her legs cut off with Zoro on little garden until Luffy showed up. Just the fucking queen.
Vivi, like her father and the King of Dressrosa, is a true paragon of the highest ideals of nobility and the principles of "noblesse oblige".
Oh my god I forgot Luffy bowing with Vivi! It makes so much sense that with the Boa sisters he knew how to show respect and humility when he needed to
I've been slowly watching One Piece for the first time and, last year, I watched the entirety of the Alabasta arc right before finals.
Finally I found someone that loves and understands Vivi thank you so much for making this video
so strange that this channel started as an exo meme channel, went through a yugioh phase and now being in one piece, but happy to be on this journey
I have a funny detail to add to the "whell of the strawhats" bit, but the chapters where they go to meet Gaimon are canon for a reason, it was to show that not everyone that Luffy likes and asks to join the crew actually joins, Vivi was just the second one, but the first to truly hurt.
She isn't unofficial, she's a former official member
& it's clear that Luffy still views her as a strawhat, not just a friend, but a strawhat who simply separated
You got me into reading One piece a year ago and I caught up a few month's back. I'm here for life now, thanks
I love Vivi.
I hope to see more of her and Karoo in the future. Hopefully she reunites with the Straw Hats.
I'd like to add that with every island that we've visited that hasn't had a change of way before the straw hats show up, Vivi is literally one of the only characters who proactively challenges the power struggle going on. Where others have waited for that moral boost luffy gives, she was already on the move dispite her stength. you gotta clap for that
Thank you for bringing the often overlooked emotional undertones of one peace to the light
I love Vivi so so so much 💕💕
God I love vivi and this video is so good. Love the parallels and mirrors between luffy and vivi you pointed out🙏
omg so many people dont appreciate vivi thank you for this video. ive seen so many people who think her character exists for the sake of the other people in the world, and while its part of vivi's character that shes selfless and puts everyone else first, which can be seen as being a 2d plot device type character, its that vivi herself cant be selfish at all and puts the world on her shoulders. i hope that when she inevitably reunites w the straw hats she lets herself be selfish and go on adventures w the crew and learn that the world doesn't rest on her shoulders. i mean, oda has put her back in play. she is wandering the seas hiding from the government. its only a matter of time til morgan's airship passes by where luffy is. i can only hope that that happens during or on the way to elbaf since itd be nice to see the giants on little garden reunite w not just the current crew, but vivi as well
I cannot be convinced that she is not going to join the straw hats permanently.
But that last scene where the crew gave their farewell to her raising their arms still gets me.
man i love vivi so much, this video made me tear up a bit so thanks for that
whoevers writing the scripe for the second season of the LA needs to watch your videos
Everything about Vivi and the Alabasta arc in general was just so awesome. I'm happy to see her come back on scene. And, to think Oda decided to make her out of ms Wednesday mostly by accident speaks big about his talent as a story writer.
Vivi!!! I'm so happy to see you talking about her
Fun fact when Oda draws onepiece he some times has to step away from the art because it is so god damn sad and Vivi yelling stop fighting 26:38 is one of them
Stop avoiding the luffy video
I believe in you
I have a feeling that Vivi's return will mark the return or the beginning of all the characters we've met along the way to form the complete fleet, with fleet captains like momo, yamato, carrot, etc. all aboard the sunny leading the world to its dawn
You still have one more crew member: Karoo
We need a whole video dedicated to him
