    Content is KING. Period. Yes, the music and voice but hey you only get better within time. I thought you did a great job! Thanks for sharing, I was looking for some tips on whip transitions before I upload my first couple of videos in late October. I emulated what you did and it worked perfectly. Super stoked and thank you for putting in the time to explain whip and speed transitions. Well done.

      I use the tripod and other techniques but for whatever the reason, I never thought about using the strap, such a simple technique yet so effective!

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know right! When I first heard of that it was one of those "it's so simple how come I didn't think of that" moments. Some people will tie a piece of string to their camera, stand on the string and pull up against it to keep it tight. So simple but super effective.

  • @MarkHoltze
    @MarkHoltze 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Used it a few times, mostly if the opportunity presents itself or it’s motivated narratively. I’ll shoot the elements sometimes as a just in case but often times I find alternatives that work better.
    My preferred use for this technique is combining two takes into one. For example camera has subjects coming out of house, but van picking them up timing is off so I will use the camera swish as a cut point on my out shot and the planned camera swish on my secondary shot to make it look like one longer more precisely blocked shot without the complications of the timing workout out naturally.
    It’s also used when someone throws a knife at a person in a shot to make it look like the knife flies fast through air and lands close to subject even though it was placed already. The swish pan shots connect those two moments as one.
    Great video mate.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Awesome suggestions! Thanks as always Mark!
      Quick question... how often do you film people throwing knives at each other 😉?
      Actually, speaking of that! I used this same thing in high school in a video class when I had someone tossing a Gatorade bottle to another character, I even overlaid a picture of a bottle and had it spinning like crazy during the whip! I had totally forgotten about this until you reminded me!

    Underrated. This is a great video. Your voice is too quiet compared to the repetitive background track. Would be nice if that was toned down and a bit better song. You don't need constant background music when you talk. Good content though
