Becoming a single parent adopter is a big decision. Single for ten years, Catherine who has experience working with children in prisons decided it was the right time to adopt.
Catherine first approached another adoption organisation but felt there was a “strong bias” against single people hoping to adopt. Catherine successfully became an adoptive parent with Barnardo’s.
“Barnardo’s support has been great. I have regular contact with my social worker. I was prepared for the challenges but the fact that you can have so much fun with a young child, almost took me by surprise…he is so much my son.” said Catherine.
