    Critical Role started off as a Pathfinder Game, so a lot of the gods, although I think less so when they moved over to 5e, were from Pathfinder.

    The 4e setting is Nentir Vale.
    Also, are you referring to the book Steal Like An Artist by Austin Kleon?

    A lot of the dnd pantheon are real deities from around the world that are no longer worshiped or are taken from public domain literature. It’s possible that they just couldn’t sue CR cause they had not enough of a legal foot to stand on.

    Questions:
    What's your favorite long-form indie RPG to run?
    What's your favorite indie to play?
    Which indie RPG do you think has the best setting?

    Fritz Lieber's Lankhmar seems ro work great as an rpg setting. Maybe because, the two main characters in his stories already act like player characters😊

    Have you ever played Brindlewood Bay? I love the idea of "having tea" with another player to remove conditions and literally roleplaying the conversation you have about what else is going in your lives to develop your characters. It's a great way to tie roleplaying into the mechanics.

    I'm a big fan of semi-near future, blue collar Science Fiction, which is what I consider Alien to be. Other examples would be the movie Outland from 1981, maybe the TV series The Expanse (though admittedly, I didn't get very far into it), and the tabletop RPG 2300AD from GDW (Mongoose is publishing a new edition, but I haven't checked it out). I figure, if I were to run an ongoing Alien campaign, I'd run it more in that line. Space is dangerous. The megacorporations are evil. Things lurk in the depths of space. In fact, I've sort of been thinking about smashing 2300AD and Alien together, as the setting for each is very similar in a lot of ways.
    What I wouldn't do, in an ongoing campaign, is have a xenomorph show up in every adventure. Of course, I'd have to make sure my players were good with that. I just think the Alien system, especially with its stress mechanics, translates into the hostile nature of space, even without the need for a monster.

    Mat Mercer made a great collage of many of WOTC's scenarios. There are major elements of Forgotten Realms (Netheril::Age of Arcanum). Dragonlance (Calamity::Cataclysm) Eberron (warforged::automotons, proper goblin and orc societies) etc. etc. I'm sure I'll be discovering more of these in years to come. Exandria is a masterclass in mixing up fantasy tropes to suit the stories you want to tell.

    Speaking of stealing artists:
    An artist sold a print pattern to a wallpaper company. Said artist is sueing a home owner for copywrite infringement for using a photo of her house interior that has said print on her wall to sell her house.

    Instead of "over", I think, "match up", would be better. It is unique enough to stand out and more descriptive of whay you are doing.

    Speaking about terminology, what about mark? as in "on your mark"? It would have nice saying like "just on mark" when you barely succeed, or if you need multiple successes you could say 2 marks or something or "above mark" if some ability needs to roll higher that the set mark. Also "aim" sounds nice, dunno about its clarity though.
    Also nice show format, exactly what i need :D

    If you’re ok with borrowing terminology, Warhammer’s community uses target number up, so needing a 5 on a pool of 3d6s would be “I’m rolling 3d6 and need a 5 ups”

  • @prosamis
    @prosamis 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    "Target" may be a concise, intuitive word for that
    Or are you looking for something as flavorful as saying DC?

    • @JocularJunction
      @JocularJunction  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not really a DC, but maybe target would work. Maybe just difficulty?
      Your difficulty is 6, or 5+, or 4+ Lower number is easier difficulty, you have a higher chance of success.

    I saw someone else answer that the 4e setting was called the Nentir Vale, so I'll ask
    Question: Have you played much 4e or at all?

    • @JocularJunction
      @JocularJunction  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I played 4e for about two years but blanked on the name. We just played older modules though, or homebrew.

    • @JamesMillsNeutralBase
      @JamesMillsNeutralBase 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @JocularJunction Absolutely reasonable. I'm sorry if it came across like "You should know that", I was mostly adding a question for discussion.
      The 4e setting didn't feel like a strong one, or very memorable compared to Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, or even Domains of Dread.

    Very interesting format! Looking forward to seeing more of this.
    If I understand your 'xD6 over y' concept corretly, this would absolutely drive me nuts. If I was told to roll 'over 5' and any 5 was a success that would feel very wrong. 'Over 5' implies 5 isn't enough. I'd suggest to go with either 'at 5' or 'over 4' (5 and 6 being sucesses in both cases). As a World of Darkness veteran I love dicepool systems, but your wording seems endlessly confusing.
    I'm very interested in your thoughts on Eve of Ruin. I've watched your obelisk videos lately (great work btw! Cudos!) and have thought about implementing the obelisk phenomenon into EoR. I would love to hear your take on this.

      @@JocularJunction How about using the word "Success." So..3d6 Success on 5. 3d6 Success on 4.I know it is wordy but it seems clear to me. I know you said it but went right by it.
