Great vid, while your in the lake district you should try Shap chippy, i work on the mobile van and were second best in the UK in the shop, Keep the vids coming
really like morcambe my dad took me not too long ago it doesnt feel as much of a hasbeen as blackpool and southport, we also went to atkinsons some of my favorite chips ive eaten
Nice one Dianne. I believe Morecambe was once affectionately known as "Bradford By The Sea" because of its popularity with Yorkshire folk back in the day. Many of which chose to retire there I was told. 😃
I'll have to go with your score as they looked absolutely great. Another must visit, as it's only up the road from where we live (in Leyland). Yes I remember the amusement park in Morecambe fondly from my younger days (think the wooden roller coaster was called "The Cyclone" back then if memory serves), and in my teens we used to get to Morecambe by train after changing at Lancaster. So that's really showing my age. Btw, your walkarounds before many of these food reviews are most interesting and informative, so full marks for your presentation and editing. They really add to the whole experience. Well done!
Back in the late 80s early 90s I travelled to Morecambe to a Star Trek convention that was held in a holiday camp. Not sure if it was a Pontins or Butlins
I first went to Morecambe in 1974, and it was heaving! Loved the fair, particularly the Ghost Train. In the eighties, the fair was bought by the Thompson Family of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, and that's where the Polo Tower came from, it originally was the Space Tower at Blackpool but had to come down when they built the Big One. After Morecambe closed, it moved to Weymouth as the Jurassic Tower but, 9 on a visit last year, I saw it had gone. Last time I was in Morecambe was in 2019, when I found a nice chippy called Blackburn's cafe, in a side street just opposite Eric Morecambe's statue. They were really nice!
My grandparents used to live in Morecambe some twenty odd years ago. I have many happy memories of visiting them. I vividly remember my grandfather teaching me how to fish off the end of the jetty seen at 4.45, during a terrible storm; put me off fishing for life. Also, the bowling alley, Fatty Arbuckles, Quasar Laser, Frontier Land and Bubbles. All gone now. Great video!
I remember Frontierland well, those were the days. Days out at Morecambe, Blackpool, Bridlington or Scarborough with my friend and his family as a kid.
You'll definitely have to get yourself a Beanie Hat Lee... It looked absolutely freezing as that wind was blasting into your face... I felt cold just watching the footage of you walking around Morecambe... I'll give Atkinsons Fish & Chip Shop a high score of 10/10... For me... the Fish & Chips wouldn't have been inside that polystyrene box long enough to produce any steam... They'd have been straight inside my stomach rather sharpish my friend... 😋It must have been eight years since i last visited Morecambe... When we used to visit the Lake District for a week... This was a regular visit on our list of destinations further south... As we were simply reliving our family memories from previous visits to Morecambe... Thanks for all the memories Lee... Cheers mate. 🍺
When was this Lee, I'm only down the road in Lancaster, been to Atkinson's chippy many times, never had any complaints, always good food, there is a good chippy near Atkinson's, only been open a year or so, called Scale Hall Plaice, shame you couldn't have tried that while you are near. I remember frontierland, the dolphins, the illuminations, loved it when I was a kid, not a lot now, the view is stunning though
Great vlog Lee We are just round the bay so come to morecambe regularly for walks There used to be polo mint ride which was the main attraction of frontier land .
Atkinsons have TWO locations in Morecambe, Lancaster Road, the one you went to and Albert Road. Perhaps next time you visit give the Albert Road location a try as they do dine in which would make good viewing. Great video as always.
Aww thanks for doing this vlog from Morecombe Lee, I'll definitely being showing my 82 year old mum this, we lost my dad this time last year and they'd been together 64 years and they had their honeymoon in Morecombe, she misses him terribly but I'm sure this will bring back happy memories for her 🥰
I’m one of the guys who recommended Atkinsons, you weren’t to know but they have a cafe 3 mins from the old Frontierland site, you could have a had tea with bread and butter, thanks for visiting our town Lee, maybe see you in Tenerife later this year?
Happy New Year Lee Another good vlog and brought back many memories, as I lived there for a few years, when I was a kid. I used to get an annual pass for the Super Swimming Stadium, which was the longest swimming pool in Europe. The pass cost 30 shillings, but gave unlimited entry, even when Miss Great Britain and It’s a Knockout, was on. 16 lengths of the pool, equalled 1 mile and the award was called a Blue Seagull, for which you received a certificate and badge. Eric Morecambe’s (Bartholomew) relatives, Francis & Philip, lived next door to my Grandma & Grandad, on Thirlmere Drive and he often visited in his Rolls Royce. A company called Urban Splash carried out the refurbishment of the Midland Hotel, which was a listed building. I used to drink, Newcastle Browns, underage in the Seahorse Bar, which was part of the hotel! Good Memories. Oh, and my best pal’s Grandad, opened Marineland, as he was the Mayor - Frank Higginson. 👍
Hi Chris.. Great post👍🏻👍🏻 If memory serves me correctly I’m sure they used to give out a free annual pass to the first person into the water on opening day?? We were never in that early as the salt water was bloody freezing🤣🤣 The things we had available to do back in the day, certainly we didn’t know how lucky we were..
You Woolfed that down Lee, looked like you really enjoyed it! Just wait till you get to Scotland you get a great fish supper!! High score today looked lovely. 9/10!
Thanks for the video. Looks like a fun trip. But how come there's no slice of lemon? And a bit of coleslaw (which is the norm here in Canada) as a side dish would be nice. I'd give it a 9/10 -- higher if it was in Keswick! This video brings back old memories of summer holidays in Silloth and spending days driving around visiting places like Aspatria and Plumbland and going swimming in the lakes. I can't wait to see the area again, i.e., if we ever get through this covid mess.
I’ve just found this video & as I live just up the road I can definitely say Atkinson’s is a fantastic Chippy. It was always packed out before Morecambe FC moved to the new stadium but still deserves its reputation for being excellent 👍🏻
Andy from Morecambe again ,I worked at Morecambe super bowl was a manager was knocked down for Aldi to replace it ,but there's a bowling alley above pleasure land next to winter Gardens now modern n does nice food too pal ,1 year as kids had a year pass for pleasure land as called back in day- frontier land £10 for a year then the next year a year pass for leisure centre ,outdoor pool last of its kind I belive £10 was awesome 👌 back in day and so busy ,respect pal great vlog pal ✌
Morecombe looks a beautiful place to visit. The fish and chips looked really nice and a good size portion, still a tad on the pricey side but better than a restraunt. Thankyou Lee
Used to holiday there back in the late 60s/early 70s. It was great with the illuminations on the front and in Happy Mount Park . It's gone downhill now, i blame Mr Bloody Blobby for almost bankrupting the council. Anyway, been to that chippy a few times and has always been good. Solid 9 out of 10.
You went to the Lancaster Road shop, but Atkinsons have another shop on Albert Road (eat in or take away) just off the prom, about a 5 minute walk from where you were stood when filming outside the former Frontierland site. I've not used the Lancaster Road shop but looking at the video the quality is consistent across both shops. The Frontierland site was owned by Morrisons but has since be bought by Lancaster City Council who plan to redevelop it once Eden Project North gets the do ahead, the pandemic having slowed progress in getting this underway.
Brilliant I have there me and my family we live in Burnley Lancashire we have been to Morecambe and it's lovely.must try to go to the chippy when we are there next.looks lovely.my kids said to me when are we going back there mummy.she wants to go to the chippy.great video.
Definitely a 10 from me. I miss me fish and chip suppers on a friday night. I cant get the song bring me sunshine out of my head. Idea !!! You and Darren can sing it when you guys next vlog together. Please it can be my early birthday present (my birthdays in July) I'm trying everything to become a hashtag. Keep up the good work and thank you so much for brightening my day. Taj
They should regenerate Morecombe. Looks like a fantastic location. I love Morecombe and Wise, as much as fish and chips . The food loos amazing and good value too.
I’m not well today so watching this from my bed in Nevada. I think this made me feel either a little worse because such wonderful food can’t be bought here, or a whole lot better because of the warm, taste-filled memories that good fish and chips brings to mind. And those fish and chips looked wonderful. I’d be thrilled to get those in newspaper, cardboard box or even those horrendous polystyrene (unrecyclable) boxes - actually detest those boxes. Thanks Lee, cheered me up.
When I was a kid, we lived in Blackburn and I remember trips with my mother to both Blackpool and Morecambe, which were meccas of entertainment in those days. I flew up to Blackpool a few years ago and was astonished to see how run down it was. Morecambe seems to have gone the same way. I remember Morecambe Marineland, with the performing dolphins, which was always a highlight for me. Now retired, if I want to see that, I just hop over to the next island and go to Loro Parque!
We come from barnsley for atkinsons ! Although we go to their other shop - which you weren’t far from when you were stood at the old Frontierland site !
Many happy memories in morecambe as a kid. But for some reason I always wanted to go to heysham and we always went into the tearoom at the bottom of the road. Happy days.
Hi Lee! Happy to see you up in the north west area. I’m certain you’ll sleep tonight what with that sea breeze and the chill in the air. That’s what I always think visiting seaside towns. The sea air knocks you flat. There’s been some snow here today so I hope you can get up to Scotland safely without any problems. Very, very nice looking fish and chips. I agree prefer them wrapped in paper too. Its something to do with the taste Try a pea and onion fritter while up this way too Lee. Very nice they are
That food and especially the batter just sounded nice really nice. Chips looked nice too. Ain’t it strange when you can tell the foods good by hearing the sound of it. Thanks Lee for sharing
I think I was there on the same day you were filming Lee! I stayed there a couple of days doing a video there. It was soooooo cold. The sunshine doesn't seem to hit the beach or prom until late in the day from what I could tell?
Lee - Beautiful blue skies in sunny Morecambe & what looked like fantastic fish & chips - it's a 9.9 from me but was it cod or haddock ? - if it was haddock it's a 10 - keep up the good work mate - onwards !
Welcome to Morecambe Lee! Correct on all you said about the beauty pageant ect. And yes, that used to be Frontierland. Loved my hometown in the 80’s. Sadly gone to rack n ruin now and can’t wait to retire elsewhere 🤣 such a shame. Spent most of my younger years down on the prom. And yes, there was dolphins 🤣 safe journey!
Jeez I was salivating at the contents of your lovely box😂😂a solid 9 at the very least, and I can’t wait for your Scotland vlogs mate, gonna be very entertaining I think….
Good to see the vloggs have started on the newest trip here now….and good to see a a bit of Morecambe with some classic quotes fr Eric!!! Would have been nice to see bit more of the bay and the classic and refurbished Midland hotel there as supposed be very nice. Those fish n chips looks great and good crunch factor on the batter…..and like you’ve and few others have said it would have been better without the polystyrene box. Scores on the doors for fish n chips 9/10.
Takes me back this Vlog Lee!! I was brought up a few miles from Morecambe and have seen the immense changes you mentioned in it. However, Atkinson’s has always been excellent and can remember in my youth (50+ years ago!!) how good they were and pleased that they’re still so very good. Morecambe was a really busy seaside resort when I was a kid with loads going on but has declined massively over the years. A nice bit of nostalgia shame that, although lovely and sunny, it was freezing. Great to watch, up to your usual standard.
Glad you got some tasty fish and chips after the stressful trip getting there. Wasn't sure on the closeup shot, they looked pale but looked much better on the distance shot. Haddock is my favorite fish being from New England but usually just have it pan fried. Looking forward to your trip to Scotland.
Happy new year Lee Sad thing is Lots of places I went as a kid to eg Seaside resorts , city centres at Xmas tourist destinations etc.. have all but gone or look like 💩 holes But least we still have fish n chips 🙊
The car park you are in at sainsburys was the old morecambe fc football ground. You where actually closer to the other Atkinsons chippy when you filming at the old frontierland site 2 minute walk away on Albert Rd. Great vlog by the way 👍oh and you forgot to mention our local boxing champ Tyson Fury 😊
I remember frontier land, we used to go on coach trips, they were the first to do wristbands as far as I can remember, I say wristband, it was wool with a large sticker on, but you got on all the rides all day apart from the petrol mini motorbikes, good days
Before you started scoffing I thought it would be a high score on looks alone, the fish looked nicely fried and the chips looked amazing, then when you started munching we could hear the crunch of the batter - all in all it would make me want to visit!
There is two Atkinson,s. One inland near the sainsburys and one nearer the sea front . Having moved up here last year cannot recommend this chippie highly enough 10/10 👍
Bloody brilliant, asked you to do here last year👍. Me n my kids watch you they will be well chuffed thanks. Wish i knew you was coming 😢 maybe next time.
Andy from Morecambe here glad you enjoyed Atkinsons pitty you didn't go to Albert Rd one near prom ,well better would of got a ten lol ,good seeing you in Morecambe on a clear day too made better viewing of Morecambe not cloudy n miserable, hope ya enjoyed ya quick visit pal ,enjoy ya trip will be following ya ,respect ✌🍻
Now you’ve been to Morecambe you need to come see the Ernie Wise statue in Morley LEEDS then go to The Mermaid in Morley which was opened by Sir Tom Jones
Nice from the Mermaid but unfortunately the taste stays with me for 24 hours....Hilycroft fisheries on Bruntcliffe lane get a 👍🏾up..Unfortunately for Lee they come in a polystyrene box....
That’s not the Atkinsons I know, it’s up the West End of Morecambe, you went to the wrong one, it’s on Albert Road, it was there when I was a kid and I was born in 1940.
Great vlog Lee👏 I've never been to morecambe yet! But it does look nice there, love the pictures of your mum and dad👍 Brilliant picture of your lovely mum❤ fish and chips look good peas look nice colour 💚 would say 9/10 because I don't like them boxes as well 🤷♀️😊😘xx
Great review I knew you were on for a good score as soon as I saw you were in Morecambe, get to Fleetwood and try The Chippy £5.50 for Fish & Chips, bread and butter plus a brew it's immense always fresh it's that good I travel from Liverpool!!!
Great memories of Morecambe Lee used to go down there once a month with my parents a great day out back in the 1980's and 1990's lovely looking Fish and Chips mate 👍🏻
I don't understand why you didn't go to Atkinsons a few hundred yards away from the promenade and the old frontierland? Perhaps the other one is better?
Gone are the days when it was wrapped in newspaper, then unprinted paper ,polystyrene boxes was used to keep the fish and chips warm on the journey home ,i preferred the paper wrap
That looks like a good bit of fish and chips there.. 9.2/10 bread roll would have been nice with that.. I wonder what the salt and pepper squid was like? all the best
The best thing about visiting Morecombe was seeing how rundown the place had gotten, but nowadays, the frontierland remains have been torn down, the burnt down remains of ultimate laser tag have been torn down, blobby land is all but a memory, i even think the rundown coastside hotel has been renovated. At least Morecombe has a nice coastal walk
Hi Lee, I love watching your videos, you’re a natural in front of the camera . I especially enjoy it when you film around Pudsey, where I have lived for most of my life. I’m looking forward to your Scotland trip, very brave at this time of year! Have you ever been to Shezzaans in Pudsey, Galloway Lane? It’s extremely good in my opinion and is my local restaurant with amazing Pakistani food and great service. Enjoy your trip to the highlands and stay safe my friend. !
Love the little audio overlays of Eric Morecambe at the beginning - class touch that!
Gotta love anything with an Eric Morecambe reference and what could be better than his home town
Sounds delicious! I might get a visa for Lancashire on my Yorkshire passport and go try them, next time I’m back in Britain!
Pontins that will be not butlins just passed Heysham!!
I first went to Morecambe in 1974, and it was heaving! Loved the fair, particularly the Ghost Train.

I remember it been called Morecambe Pleasure beach before Frontierland, the polo tower was took down a few years ago after standing alive for years.

Note to self: Never watch these videos when hungry, it can lead to drooling as one peruses local takeaway menus 😋
Great vlog Lee
We are just round the bay so come to morecambe regularly for walks
There used to be polo mint ride which was the main attraction of frontier land .

Another good vlog and brought back many memories, as I lived there for a few years, when I was a kid.

The Radford family live in Morecambe and got a Pie shop.I will have to try their pies can get them online.

Looked very nice! Loved the editing Lee. Brilliant memories for you 👍🏻
They should regenerate Morecombe. Looks like a fantastic location. I love Morecombe and Wise, as much as fish and chips . The food loos amazing and good value too.
Always wondered, do you finish off the curry sauce and peas after the initial taste test? 😀
I’m not well today so watching this from my bed in Nevada. Did you have salt and vinger on that to in those boxes makes the batter a bit soggy ?
A nostalgic trip for you there Lee with some excellent fish and chips thrown in.
Hope your trip over the border goes well. Look forward to the vlogs,

Try a pea and onion fritter while up this way too Lee. Very nice they are
Frontier Land was great! The Mexican Wave ride was my favourite and they had a saloon bar with the staff dressed as cow boys and girls.
If your in Edinburgh lee try the fish market in Newhaven ,excellent
That food and especially the batter just sounded nice really nice. Chips looked nice too. Ain’t it strange when you can tell the foods good by hearing the sound of it. Thanks Lee for sharing
Any fish and chips cooked in dripping are excellent they look dripping fish and chips??
Can't believe I missed you in my hometown..I use same chippy and are always good.i think it was miss uk that was in Morecambe many moons ago..

Apparently there’s a shortage of Haddock so it’s just Cod at the moment..

Hi Lee you was less then 5 mins from where I live always use that chippy loved the vlog I love morecambe
Fish and chips at the seaside proceeds to a chippy way out of the way of the seaside 😂😂
The statue is a great tribute to a legendary comedian looks a really nice place .
That looked amazing Lee, the fish supper as well as Morecambe, can’t wait to see what you think of the temperature if you get a blawy day in Anster!
Was in Morecambe in 1985 Frontier Land (Pleasure Beach), great memories, closed 1999

A nice bit of nostalgia shame that, although lovely and sunny, it was freezing. Great to watch, up to your usual standard.
Hope you are coming back to Liverpool if you do i recommend Chris's Fish & Chips on Rose Lane, Mossley Hill. outstanding! massive portions too
Was the roller coaster called the tornado? Also remember the log flume was the last part of the funfair left partially standing
It was yes. :) I remember the log flume.
Glad you got some tasty fish and chips after the stressful trip getting there. Wasn't sure on the closeup shot, they looked pale but looked much better on the distance shot. Haddock is my favorite fish being from New England but usually just have it pan fried. Looking forward to your trip to Scotland.
Frontierland was owned by the Thompson family that also own Blackpool pleasure beach.
Happy new year Lee
Sad thing is
Lots of places I went as a kid to eg
Seaside resorts , city centres at Xmas tourist destinations etc.. have all but gone or look like 💩 holes
But least we still have fish n chips 🙊
The car park you are in at sainsburys was the old morecambe fc football ground. You where actually closer to the other Atkinsons chippy when you filming at the old frontierland site 2 minute walk away on Albert Rd. Great vlog by the way 👍oh and you forgot to mention our local boxing champ Tyson Fury 😊
And motorcycling genius John McGuinness (The Morecambe Missile)😁😁
I remember frontier land, we used to go on coach trips, they were the first to do wristbands as far as I can remember, I say wristband, it was wool with a large sticker on, but you got on all the rides all day apart from the petrol mini motorbikes, good days
Before you started scoffing I thought it would be a high score on looks alone, the fish looked nicely fried and the chips looked amazing, then when you started munching we could hear the crunch of the batter - all in all it would make me want to visit!
Hi Lee great vid yeah miss frontier land fab place and wasn't it owned by blackpool pleasure Beach?
when Lee was walking I was looking at his long legged shadow behind him carrying the phone lol.. food 8.9
Don’t forget they also have a shop and cafe on Albert Road just off the promenade.
👍🏼👍🏼 I'll be back. 👍🏼
Nice review Lee
They looked tasty
Good score
That looked a tasty fish and chips 9/10 for me. I would have had the curry sauce poured on 🤣 Safe journey to Scotland.

Crikey I could feel that breeze.... looked baltic ! Luckily the grub hit the mark to warm up after. Cheers Lee - 👍
Try the chippy in Arnside always highly recommended
happy new year lee and the fish and chips looks lovey the paper is better i will give it 9 . 3 with best wishers from rob
Looked superb! I'm craving fish and chips now!
Great memories of Morecambe Lee used to go down there once a month with my parents a great day out back in the 1980's and 1990's lovely looking Fish and Chips mate 👍🏻
You picked an awesome time to come to Morecambe wish you'd of had them at other Atkinsons n plated be a 10 pal ,safe journey Andy Morecambe 👍
The fish, Chips, Curry and peas has to be a solid 9 out of ten. Looks so tasty. They need to adopt the cardboard box instead of plastic
It is a cardboard box fully recyclable. Only plastic lids on peas and curry and sometimes a plastic bag
I agree the cardboard box is much better
I don't understand why you didn't go to Atkinsons a few hundred yards away from the promenade and the old frontierland? Perhaps the other one is better?
Nice generous portion on the fish. I like that. It looks superb! I give it a nine and a half! 😀
Glad they we're great after your long trip there..I want some now🙈xx
The best thing about visiting Morecombe was seeing how rundown the place had gotten, but nowadays, the frontierland remains have been torn down, the burnt down remains of ultimate laser tag have been torn down, blobby land is all but a memory, i even think the rundown coastside hotel has been renovated. At least Morecombe has a nice coastal walk
Have you ever tried middle skate? Not all shops sell it and it’s more expensive. I had it once and it was delicious.
You missed a few gems ... Arnside Chippy in.... Arnside ! Chippy by the Lake in Bowness, next to the ferry.
3 questions Lee, was it haddock, dont you like scraps/bits on? and how tall are you.
Hi, Love scraps or Batter Bits. Haddock and 6ft 4. :0)
@@TheMacMaster Many Thanks Lee, looking forward to following you throughout your journey Best Regards Harry.
!
Thank you Judith x
I have been to Shezans. It is literally over the road from Sarahs. 👍🏼
@@TheMacMaster Sarah and I must be neighbours then, I live on Hillfoot Drive!
Brilliant stuff, gotta love the mighty Morecambe. The bowling alley is now the aldi 🥲 miss that so much!
