I’m so glad I stumbled upon your channel! I’ve been sewing along with your tutorial for this pattern and it has helped me a lot as an advanced-beginner level sewer. Thank you so much for doing these tutorials for these patterns!! New subscriber earned!! ❤
I skimmed through this because im sneaking on my phone at work - but before this section gets bogged down with compliments..I wanted to say THANK YOU for giving us new sewers hope!! I think i may try this!! You have such a sweet spirit and I thoroughly enjoy watching your channel!! Hugs, Tmika
Brittany, I am ITCHING to sew, but it’s going to be probably another month before I can even sew one seam. I have to tell you about a notion I bought before my hospital trip. It’s called a “hot ruler” and you need one! That thing is great! I got mine on Amazon.
Thank you so much Brittany for this Sew Along!! Seeing you do things like this step by step gives beginners like me the confidence to tackle an item that I think would be too complex by just looking at the pattern package in the store. But your tips and videos help sooo much! Something as simple as encasing the seams...I had no idea how to do without doing the intricate Hong Kong finish, now I do!
You're so welcome! I love doing videos for that exact reason of helping build confidence in beginner sewers! I'm so happy to hear you enjoy them! Thank you for watching!
Thank you for this, I followed every step of the way! I am hgockel on IG so will post a photo when I do the last step now- the placket. Your zipper troubles cracked me up! What a pain! I did end up sticking with a 30" zipper (still too long) but made it work- with a tiny 1/4" hem but my jacket is a large. I had fun using contrasting fabric for the hood. Had a lesson right away in snap placement- ended up adding extra male parts to my pockets because they weren't centered for me. Best to put the pockets in first then add snaps I think. I want to try this one again and make different pockets that I can slide my hand into more easily. I also used bias tape on the seams which was a good idea for my light windbreaker fabric. I did more interfacing on the pockets- after the edges were pressed I interfaced over it to seal in those parts.
Oh boy! Sometimes it gets frustrating, but it is good to show mistakes, we all make them and I think it is very encouraging to beginners to see a very good Seamstress make mistakes too. Your jacket is really cute, and doing it is a very lightweight fabric will make it very versatile in your warm climate.
I love the fabric you used and I’m so glad there’s a tutorial on this pattern! I bought this pattern in a Joann Simplicity sale without really knowing why but now that I remember you had this in a Monthly Makes video and I must have been subconsciously remembering how good it looked 🥰🥰
Great job Brittany. I would have never thought to take another basting seam around a curve to help it fold in (as in your pocket). Now on to watching more. Thank you! 😘
I always Love your detailed instructions and easy to follow pace and the camera angles throughout! Thank you Brittany for sharing your gift with your tutorials. What type of fabric did you use for this jacket ?
I love this jacket.. Brittany, I know you said you MIGHT make a lined ones of these for the cooler seasons.. If you do not actually make obe, could you PLEASE do an tutorial/walk through on how you would lined it.. I live in the tropics of Australia, I could do with a warmer jacket for our Dry Season.. much appreciated x
I really enjoyed this sew along....the fabric was too cute, really turned out well😊. I already have this pattern and it's on the "list of makes". Thank you for sharing and being so thorough!
Brittany I am a new subscriber, after seeing you on Mimi G's channel with that mustard linen..... you were so wonderful.... clean, clear and exact with your instructions...... thank you again....
What sewing machine are you using? Really like the jacket and you showed every step which is appreciated by a newbie sewing enthusiast. Like the bias tape on seams.
Your camera handling is A+++!! I just wondered what the diff is between sewing bias binding to encase your seams and Hong Kong finish. Looked the same to me! (I’ve never done either technique.)
Thank you so much! They are very much the same, except with the encasing (like I did) you can see the stitch, with the hong kong you won't be about to see stitching. I found a tutorial that can explain it here for you until I get around to making a video showing it... blog.colettehq.com/tutorials/hong-kong-finish-tutorial
Hi! Love this tutorial! It helped me decide to buy the pattern and fabric and I'll be sewing along with you :) Quick question, would this pattern work as a reversible coat? I'm just thinking of doing a nylon shower proof lining so if it's raining I can turn it inside out. If so, how woudl this work (beginner here). I'm thinking I'd just make the pattern up in twill and then in nylon and sew together? Thanks.
Brittany, your jacket is absolutely fabulous and that fabric is gorgeous! Great video with many helpful tips. Love all of your makes but this is definitely a favorite!
Hi Brittany! I know this may seem weird, but I watched your video on the Mimi G top that you posted on her behalf yesterday and I NEED! to know what exactly that fabric is you used? I fell in love at first sight! Gorgeous! And you did a fabulous job, as usual and I'm constantly inspired by you. TIA🙏👍❤
Ms. Brittany I would like to make this as raincoats for my tweens step daughters. What is the name of raincoat fabric should I look for? I appreciate your work and all u do. Thanks
Great video. I am a beginning sewer and zippers are a problem for me. When you baste your zipper in, do you then sew your permanent stitch 'on top' of your basted stitch or slightly adjacent to your basting stitch so that you can then remove the basting?
That really looks nice, I was curious about that fabric in the beginning but it looks great with the jeans. Great tutorial. Brittany can you do a tutorial on SIMPLICITY 8734 ,please. Thanking you in advance. 😉
Thank you so much Vera! I'm gonna be honest with you.....I originally thought Simplicity 8734 was not my style, but after seeing the model in the blue....I'm SOLD! I totally passed up a great dress! I'll be getting this pattern during the next sale! Thank you for suggesting it!
Hi Brittany, I'm currently 'sewing along' with your video. I'm making my Anorak out of lightweight denim. I have a question for you. In the video you indicate that you are sewing the top portion of the zipper outside of the seam. I understand why you did that but couldn't you have simply cut off that top portion of the zipper rather than sewing it outside of the seam? Just curious if sewing that small portion of the zipper outside of the seam is our only option.
TaDarling1 hey! Yes I could’ve, but I sewed it outside the seam first just to be sure the end of the zipper was secure and the raw edge wouldn’t be exposed on the right side. I personally like to secure the end before I cut the excess.
Woo-Hoo!!! I just finished my light-weight Denim Anorak and it looks awesome. Another successful sewing project thanks to your wonderful video. There is such a sense of achievement when you can actually wear something that you've made with your own hands and it looks so good!
Great Job! A little suggestion for you. I watch another sewer and she uses plain manila file folders and cuts strips for the areas she needs to fold and press. Faster and easier than using a seam gauge.
Just curious, why did you use the bias tape for the seams? I love the color of this pattern, is it cotton? I'm always having a hard time deciding what material to use with certain patterns.
Brittany, i just found you. I am so, so, happy to find videos of someone like you. Beautiful work! I find so many tutorials of people that think they know what they are doing and they don't. Quite often they only turn hem up once, or one time at the edge of bib overalls, or at waistband. Every time I find this I ask if their outfits fall apart after first washing. I don't know why it took me so long to find you, but I am thrilled I did. Thanks so much. God Bless.
I've loved this pattern and wanted to make it but I think I was daunted by some of the details and the snaps - to be honest! But you laid it all out simply step-by-step and have taken some of my fear away. You did a beautiful job and it looks great on you! Any regrets for not lining it? Do you plan to make another with lining?
Thank you so much! I'm so happy to hear that! I don't have any regrets at all. I love it unlined! I live in California and I intend to wear it for Spring, so having it unlined is perfect for this weather. If I make it again, I may line it, but it depends on when I want wear it.
Hi Britanny. Maybe I missed it, but could u also type what kind of fabric you are sewing with in future videos as I’m still learning the best fabrics to use for various projects. 😉
Quality Time hey!! I went over the fabric and all the supplies I purchased in my preview video here... th-cam.com/video/GANxayNgkdI/w-d-xo.html I like to do it in separate videos so I focus on supplies and reviewing the pattern in one video, and sew it in the other. Thank you for watching❤️
Hi Brittany, Thank you for the videos I found them very interesting and easy to follow you make it look so easy, I was curious to know what sewing machine you use as it sounds So smooth and not clunky and doesn't seem to get stuck when sewing through layers of fabric.
