Hi Peter. A great video as always. I have had great success polishing acrylic panels and old VU meter faces with whitening toothpaste. It leaves a mirror smooth finish but can be a slow process. On deeper scratches i first use a household cleaner called 'Cif' here in the UK which is slghtly more abrasive . Then final polish with the toothpaste. Karl
It is the nature of polarized light that any areas of stress or damage in the optical media will be accentuated by areas of dark and light. I doubt very much if the typical darkening around the CCFL electrode is contributing to the issue as that is not abnormal in fluorescent tubes. That said, I can not imagine being sufficiently bothered by such a minor issue as to send my radio in for service over such -- especially for a less than brand new, straight from the factory, radio -- and I can certainly be picky.
I used to work with a person who liked to "clean" things with a pencil eraser. Looks like that type of cleaning took place here. Having to fix his repairs was a real pain.

In the past I have repaired many watches including ladies' watches with a plastic glass. This plastic glass was sometimes full of scratches. Often I had to renovate or replace the request of the customer on this. Experimentally, I found out that the refurbishment was good to do, provided that the scratches were not too deep. By sanding with increasingly finer sandpaper I got this completely unscratched, but it was dull. No more transparent. Now comes the panacea, Brasso, brass polish, by doing this means a polishing cloth and the slide in circular motion, wipe the copper polish, it appears that you could polish this high gloss. It looked like new again. Maybe try one next time to use this medium? Success.
Brasso copper sheen that you can find in the supermarket between household cleaners. Personally, I think silver polish or something will work. first try on a piece of plastic. My brother has plastic headlights of his car two weeks ago still underway. This had become dull and look again like new. Worth trying. succes. '73 PD0AGZ

You be surprised at how many folks have done that. Had a Yaesu ft-726 that the main RX/TX board was destroyed by leaky capacitors. Did a search on Google for a tech special to use for parts and found a guy had 2 of each board for the rig. He was in the UK and I asked why he had original boards in unopened boxes. Told me it was cheaper to do that than shipping the rig across the world. I was able to purchase the needed board for 65 US bucks

Good job Peter. I hate modern displays. Just to many things that can go wrong. My main problem with them is what is parts availability going to be like in the future when the display goes bad. Anything I have that has LCD or TFT LCD displays I have already purchaded spare displays for them.

Peter I see there is a large resistor next to a coil on the PCB side. It might be the cause of the film burning, it is in the area of the problem. I would suggest that a temp reading be done on that resistor to see if it is not overheating. Just a thought but I wouldn't be surprised if that was not the problem. Cheers 73 out.

Peter, this is quite common with LCDs where one of the layers(generally the polarising layer) gets damaged mostly due to a "bruising" effect from been roughly handled/something rubbing on the LCD or in some way over tightening an LCD mounting. Sometimes it will disappear when the pressure is released but often it is permanent. Not repairable outside replacement which is excessive for what is a "cosmetic" issue. The damage could easily been there for a while (maybe while the CFL heated up those layers or whatever) now the other fault is fixed you can see the other issues ..Very annoying now he can see it but not really a killer fault!
I would not disagree but in this case it is different as by rough handling you cant get a spot on the inner layer which looks like and feels like that somebody scratched over it with sandpaper.. Thanks for watching and comment. 73
Maybe it got discoloured or effected by the heat of the display and or the engineer had to fiddle with it. The "Devil" makes work for idle hands and all that. Not a game changer but real anoying now he's noticed it !!
Love your work. how much does a little CFL cost just out of curiosity i know a 48" lamp only cost about $4.00 US dollars and if you go by size it should only be about 10 cents . not likely.

Sorry Peter...OCD = "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder". At the extreme (where I'm really not at!) folks check, check and recheck repetitively things like whether a door is locked, they have their drivers license or credit cards in their wallet, things like that. I joke that I'm that way because I like things to be tidy and organized (and labeled!). Check my QRZ page (KL0S) and you might see a little of what I mean. Some people get anal about these things. If it was a full color LCD or it was in the middle of a digit i would have understood it, but that is really nitpicking. I have a small black speck of dirt inside my 37" LG LCD TV that i bought broken and fixed, and i still cannot be arsed taking the LCD panel apart (and potentially getting even more dust in) for that one little spot. The back cover is still off the set in the hope that one day i will bother cleaning it, but it is really low on my priority list. I have read about people "bathing" the polarizers in TV sets, but i have not had the guts to try that myself yet. I do have plenty of busted laptop screens to practice on tho. :)
It is a really nice 1080p LED edge-lit set and i do all my youtube watching on it, but i still can't be bothered cleaning it haha. One day maybe. I have 4 other TVs to fix including a 55" so that will stay with its speck of dirt inside for a couple months i'm sure.

Will the IC-9100 23cms module fit into the IC-910HX, even though there is no need for the oscillator board on the 910?
Thats a mark on the lcd background plastic. i would try to put another plastic white sheet to replace it, or order a expensive replacement.

I still don't understand why the manufacturers still using CFL. they not use LED. much simpler circuits to drive leds and last a long longer that CFL.
