Filament is an elegant sci-fi puzzler that is easy to understand but bedeviling in practice. Solve puzzles in order to help a disembodied voice regain control of her spaceship. Check it out if you think you've got the power to brainflex on me.

About this game:
With only the help of Juniper, the ships stricken pilot, face fiendishly difficult puzzles that will push you to the limit in a bid to uncover what happened to the crew and why they disappeared.

The fact he never even tried connecting the Orange wire to the pillar in the last puzzle has given me an aneurysm
Especially when he says "Maybe you have to do it in a certain order." then almost does the only order he hasn't tried yet, stops, and does the one he already did twice before.
I've already started skipping anything from the 8-bit era on this channel, and I'm getting pretty close to dropping anything puzzle based too.
@@SBBurzmali Hate to break it to ya bud, but if you're here to watch high level gameplay oF ANY era, then you should probably drop the entire channel all together because it's not about the gameplay.

@@Chuck4230 He's plenty competent at twin-stick shooters, deck builders, modern side-scrollers, etc. I come for the commentary, but if the commentary is on the gameplay and the gameplay is is lacking, that detracts from the video pretty heavily.

He's managed to reverse engineer his puzzle output without understanding their relation to the inputs, he's backdooring the very premise of a puzzle.

Only 4 possible paths. These are the ones you tried from 22:08 to 24:18.

So, we can safely say Ryab is the kind of person that when confronted with a square peg, and a round hole and a square hole, will repeatedly try to jam the peg in the round hole without ever trying the other hole.

It is truly amazing how often NL resets a puzzle one move away from solving it. I both love and hate it.
19:23 was pretty painful. You know those mobile game ads where they purposefully play poorly to get you to buy it? NL is definitely getting paid by these developers.
@@Saladmints What bothers me about those mobile game ads is not the poor play. It's the fact that the ads bait you with one type of game and the game ends up being completely different. Like I've seen puzzle game ads for games that have exactly zero puzzle elements.
@@JohnDCrafton gardenscapes come to mind. Copying the kind of ads that one game, hero something spams on Facebook. Completely fake ads to get you to install their old trash

It was going so well then the orange pillar appeared

I get that sometimes you need to reset, but this man has one piece left in a 5 piece puzzle and he disassembled it all and starts over

That moment, when egg basically had the solution, but does one wrong turn, restarts the whole turn and just keeps screwing it up
Not being able to recognize that dull orange pillar needs to be lit and not noticing the colour stays for 1 link killed me, tried same two pillars for almost 4 minutes, this must be on purpose so ppl buy the game just to do it 🤣

NL would you consider trying The Messenger? It's a platformer/metroidvania-esque game with some fighting (Ninja Gaiden style). Platforming is a little less hard than Celeste but really enjoyable overall. It's gotten the award for Best Indie Debut Game and the music absolutely slaps, which I know you love.
For this egg, the colored pillar that doesn't turn the colored filament on/off tutorial room also needed a grey pillar to make it even more obvious that the "any color" pillar was, in fact, orange.
I do love your content, Ryan, and I will watch every puzzle game you try, but it's definitely 100% because schadenfreude.

I love watching NL play puzzle games, because you never know if your going to get Galaxy Brain Egg or the Irreparably Cracked Egg, and with this it was definitely the former!
Why are you so possessed of the urge to start all the way over.
I get throwing out the bathwater but eventually you get to a situation where you're just chucking out babies left, right, and center: you mad egg.

True test for a viable game is whether or not it can be a vehicle for rants, banter, bits, impressions, anecdotes, metaphors, gym, grocery store, moving apartments while living in Vancouver, snowboarding, cats.
Loving the originality of the title
The combination of the music here at NL's dulcet tones make this video incredibly relaxing. I want this music and an hour of NL's greatest hits uploaded as a sleep aid to Spotify or something. I need a breakdown of roughly:
A solid "Heeey Everybody."
10 minutes of rambling about self improvement and continuing to learn, possibly with obscure C or java reference
5 minutes of Canadian hockey talk
5 minutes of furry son chaos
10 minutes of random pop trivia talk and mid 2000s music minutia
10 minutes of daily anecdotes and thoughts on what's happening on twitter
5 minutes something something something Dan, yada yada Malf
5 minutes of back in my day, or the thoughts on the relative merits of college education and Biology degrees in general
5 minutes of iced coffee, home cooking kits, and updates on the weather in Toronto, and Canadian history or politics.
5 minutes of "Look it Up Sweetheart" and "Heeeee's done it.", with occasional mad cackle

I got a review copy from the devs and I'm glad to see NL covering it as well. This game is absolutely worth it if you're a puzzler type, it's got a ton of content for only $17.

I know it's really unlikely that he will, but I love NL playing puzzle games, and would be really happy with more of this. I've been playing Filament and really enjoying it, and it has a wide open world map that lets you see a lot of new stuff even if you get stuck on something.
I'm not mad. I am disappointed in myself for thinking that, maybe, NL could for once not make me scream at my screen during a puzzle game.
Honestly the amount of games I need to buy just to frustration solve the puzzles he keeps messing up is the best sales tactic. 200 IQ Egg.
This Man sells puzzle game better than anyone, because watching and seeing the solution is so frustrating that you wanna go further and see more puzzles, but he constantly does the same thing over again expecting different results.
The man managed to avoid decades of puzzle design that the third pillar was orange without a dot meaning it had to be touched by an orange line. Genius
This is an impressively fun looking game. Great Review NL! Really enjoying the NL Tries Series.
NL the 2 times you gave up you were so close to a soluction! Obviously the difference between the pillars were that the ones with square changes the color, and the ones without it need the color but cannot change it, it was supposed to teach you that. And the one previous to that you were missing one loop to be able to activate the one you were missing, and after that you could then activate the others and come back through the activated door and then the exit. Fun Northernlion Tries though.
Coming back to this video to thank NL for the recommendation. It's perhaps my favorite puzzler of this year (rivaling another recommendation by NL, Besiege) and certainly among my top 5 favorites of all time.

The egg is great but the lack of understanding about connecting the orange wire to the orange pillar killed me inside
I was dicking around on my gf's laptop while I was re-installing Windows on mine, signed out of my YT account, and this popped up on my main TH-cam feed. Signed in to comment: the algorithm has apparently catapulted you to the font page of TH-cam. Truly we live in the golden age.

I know it's cool to egg on the egg but that last puzzle is just counterintuitive
It's simple enough to complete by guessing but after 25 minutes of lighting up pillars I don't blame him for not wanting to put in the effort to learn a new mechanic only to stop playing one puzzle later.
How is that counterintuitive? It's tutorial level with 4 possible combinations. He was simply out of computing power at this point.
He managed to slightly overthink the second puzzle. It's a joy to see

It gives me conniptions watching this scrambled egg get confused when doing the exact same thing five times in a row and getting no results.
Sometimes I think he does it on purpose to get you to buy the game to complete the puzzles he skips.

For the last puzzle....it's an orange block Ryan please, make your wire orange, then circle the block before ending on the orange ender. i get so frustrated watching him play puzzle games >.< Please Ryan put me out of my misery

The annoying thing isn't that NL couldn't solve the puzzle. It's that NL will never touch this and the other puzzle games again. :c
for the brown puzzle you loop above the middle one, down around the bottom one, then around the top one. I assume the bottom pillar requires brown but will not give or consume the brown color itself so it needs to be in the middle.

At minute 20:00 couldn't you trigger that one pillar you kept saving for last third instead, then you could have looped around and hit everyone without crossing the wire.

I think he is taking a note from those Facebook adds about the lame puzzles, or the guy trying to escape a trap, just showing the incorrect combination on loop so often people buy the game to complete it themselves
