I've had the craft ice maker replaced once under warranty. It just stopped making the craft ice again. Doing the typical dripping water into the ice tray, but not dropping the balls. After reading through the comments this guy Jeff recommends using a hairdryer to loosen the frozen balls and then using the test/reset button. Genius. It worked like a champ! Remove the top slider drawer from the freezer. It makes getting to the ice maker with the hairdryer WAY easier. Take the ice ball tray out of its normal place and place it in the bottom of the freezer under the craft ice maker to catch any water(mine did not drip for what it's worth) Use the hairdryer on high heat for about 5 minutes. Move it back and forth to ensure all 3 balls are melting. Then push and hold the test button for 3 seconds. It will beep and then begin running the cycle. At that point I was able to gently grab the ice ball which had frozen into one giant piece and pull it out of the ice molds. Put the top sliding drawer back in place with the ice ball tray and you're done.

@alaskapanic I am able to do the test/reset on my own craft ice maker but was trying to help a neighbor with theirs. When I go to do the test mode and push the button in, it beeps once, maybe twice on some occasions and then doesn't do anything else. I also tried the hair dryer but don't see any or feel any stuck ice. When you tried your test mode, did it immediately make noises? I'm wondering if I needed to hold the hair dryer on it longer in case there's ice I can't see that's stuck. I may suggest they unplug and plug back in but would hate for that to cause any further harm to the rest of the refrigerator. Thanks in advance if you see this and have suggestions.
@@Cosmo_Cramer no, our friend ended up having to call it in for service & at that time, they replaced it for free. I don't think there was even water coming into the tray. Then of course ours acted up so I got online with LG and tried to figure things out. I did find out that our water dispenser wasn't working right, and we were able to fix that issue without a service call. LG also sent us a new craft ice ball maker to replace the old one, because it sounded like it was dying and wouldn't drop the balls anymore. It's pretty easy to replace on your own. There are youtube videos out there showing how to do it. I think they know about the issues with this craft ice ball maker but I'm sure we will end up having to replace it again. Did you try a hair dryer on it? Can you feel ice in the tray?
@@Sophiesshenanigansthanks for the response! I can feel that there is half of an ice ball in each circle. I’ve had the issue where it wasn’t creating ice balls so I reset it then it’ll start working. This is our second LG in 16 months. Loved the first one but the fridge froze solid after 16 months, and thank goodness for extended warranties. That one also had an icemaker in the freezer but made regular sized cubes. Lots of them. Nobody told me this unit was only going to make three ice cubes per day, would never have bought it. Since we're starting in July, maybe by New Year's I'll have enough for a small cocktail party.
Absolutely amazing that LG could sell a nearly $5K fridge and have a simple function like this go out completely untested. I've had this fridge for a few weeks and after taking 3 days to make any ice, it worked for about a week and then jammed, spilling water into the tray and creating sheets of ice. @@Rcaceres Thanks. LG finally got back to me. They can't find anyone to service the unit but are sending me a replacement ice maker to swap out myself. Apparently the surface coating of these ice makers is a known problem causing the ice to stick (and then leak). One might think a company would try to get in front of this known issue by recalling stock or reaching out to new customers but I suppose that's too much trouble and too much expense.
@@DavidMcMahon it’s crazy! Mine was a different story. I ended up fixing it myself. Let’s just say the water wasn’t falling where it needed to fall into
@@Rcaceres my issue is there is a ball stuck and the metal bar is on top of it not allowing unit to fully shut so it spilled water in the tray. Should I melt the cube and water out and turn it back on?
Ice balls had become stuck in our craft ice maker. It didn't realize the ice balls didn't fall out so water would leak into the tray when it tried to refill the cavity. This was clear to see by pressing the "reset" button which cycled the tray open and closed twice (be sure to leave the tray in to catch the water that spills out. I used a hair dryer to soften the ice and after a few cycles the popped out. I tried to wipe the inside of the cavity to make sure it was nice and clean so the new batch doesn't stick (fingers crossed). This craft ice maker worked perfectly for us for 21 months. This has been the only issue.
Thanks for the tip, hairdryer for 5 minutes did the trick in loosening the 3 balls that were stuck... wasn't making ice and just knocking "tap tap tap tap tap tap", felt the stuck ice balls. Get a towel, remove the ice bin, and aim a hairdryer on heat at the balls for about 3-5 minutes, doesn't have to melt everything, just enough to drop out of the mold. Restart the ice maker by powering off and on. Saved a service.
I just did this and pulled out the ice that was stuck...All three pieces of my craft ice fused together into one piece of ice...had to reset it a couple of times being the ice chunk would get stuck as i was trying to gently nudge it out...Thanks for the info... that button is between a plastic guide thats in the middle and you have to feel around to get to it
Ty Jeff! I used a heat gun on low temp to soften the ice and a small baking pan to catch the water. To find the reset button, use a cell phone on selfie mode. It is a white square located on the front left on the LRFXC2416S fridge.
Ours "stopped working" after about 3 months. This video gave me some things to try, and also just helped me understand the mechanism better. In our case, the sensor arm that detects whether the area under the dispenser is clear had somehow become jammed up above the ice tray, maybe from trying to dispense an irregular piece of ice, and freeing it re-enabled the ice maker. Just one more thing to look at that isn't mentioned in the video.
Hey there! Quick fix for your ice maker: Remove the ice bucket, find and gently push down the sensor arm above the ice tray, then pop the bucket back in and check if it's working. We hope this helps, and let us know if you have any more questions! ^ Diego
You cannot use a bowl. Use the ice tray. Pull the top drawer out just enough to get your hand in and push reset button located on the underside of the ice maker. As the unit cycles you can adjust drawer so tray catches water. The reset button is very small. You have to use the tip of your finger. You will hear a "beep" when you successfully reset. You can watch as unit cycles. Mine took four resets to get water flowing.
I've had my refrigerator 2 years, purchased this model solely for the craft ice maker. It's been repaired 3 times, repair comes to see yes it's not working, orders a new unit, it eventually arrives from LG, service comes back and replaces it. So much time consumed and time without craft ice. It broke a 4th time and requested replacement of refrigerator with retailer. LG said no as it is repairable. Just repairable at my time and expense. So now reading how I can fix it myself. I may just give up and buy another refrigerator from another brand based on the questions others have here. I'll look to see if LG posted updated instructions as I'm almost ready to accept it's time to move on so that life can be good again. .
We have an LG LRMDC2306S. During first month we’ve had 4 service visits for craft ice maker not working. Each service call reveals the water feed line to the ice maker is frozen solid although the freezer temp is set at +4F. We added two thermometers into the freezer that log temp and they both show 4F so temp sensor is good. Does the craft ice maker line have a heater/defrost? Latest tech wants to switch out water feed line but by this point we have zero confidence LG know how to build a fridge.
I had no issue after watching the video and reading some of the below customer comments. It was a bit tricky finding the reset button, but once I did, 3 Craft Ice balls fell out and I heard the water refill the cube tray. I took the advice of Lisa Hunter's post and used my wife's small mirror to locate the rest switch. I can only conclude that the 3 craft ice balls were stuck.
Hey there! Open the bottom freezer drawer and feel underneath the ice maker. There is a small, rubbery button that needs to be pushed to reset the ice maker. Make sure not to push on the ice molds themselves, which feel rubbery. The button will feel like the top of a writing pen's button, but rubbery. 🖊️ ~Tegan
Before you do anything, sit on the left side of the freezer and slide out the drawer where you can see clearly. I had one ball of craft ice jammed between the wire and plastic. Freed it by slightly pulling the wire up and ice ball out. Careful because some pressure will close it and give you a little pinch.
This also worked for me. There was an ice ball stuck between the drawer. Seems like a design flaw with how several of us ran into the exact same issue.
All, thank you for these comments. I ran the test cycle and it would not complete. Felt around and I had a stuck ice ball in the far back part of the tray. I have removed it and will hopefully be making ice again shortly.
I did this and figured out that I had all 3 ice cub slots full of ice cubes which were stuck and fused together into one super ice cube. In the process of trying to pry them out unsuccessfully, I managed to undo a spring which was holding the unit into place at one side. Looks like I get to spend time and money on service.
If you press the reset button and it doesn't fully cycle, and can't hear the water go into the tray. It means you have some ice stuck and is preventing it from fully cycling. It has a a safety feature that it will stop the cycle to prevent from breaking any of the components. You can either try melting whatever is stuck with hair dryer. Or try aiding it by hand look for the metal wire and help it cycle. In my case a craft ice ball was stuck and wouldn't let it cycle to be able to hear the water pouring in to tray. Once the stuck iceball dropped i heard the water pour in and do the full cycle. Haven't had any problems since.
Thank you for your comment/post!!!! I just checked and low and behold there was a ball stuck. I just cleared it. Hope to get some craft balls very soon.
Hi. The tray and the wire stay hanging down and not up horizontally as in the video. When I press the test button, the wire and the tray swing down then up to the same hanging position, never horizontally. It doesn't make any craft ice. Is it broken? I had it for barely 2 months.
@@honghanguyen804 Feel for a stuck ice ball, use a mirror if you can to see if there's a ice ball stuck preventing from fully cycling. The fridge stopped making ice balls about a month ago, and again there was an ice ball stuck again. Removed it again and it started making ice again.
Does anyone have a video of proper operation of the test mode? My tray doesn’t seem to close. Also, the wire arm or bracket appears to be in the wrong position. Unfortunately, I can’t find a sing image or video showing what it should look like.
@@MayaLogistica it was Ice buildup on the fan. I let it thaw and melt away. Works fine now. My apologies, I thought this was about my issue with the freezer (totally different issue). My craft ice maker was broken by some frozen food being pushed up against the metal arm and bending it. I need to replace the entire unit.
What pisses me off the most is that I have to come to You Tube to look for help because trying to get help from LG is ridiculous. Even videos like this is shitty, I mean to say thats its been YEARS of LG having issues with the ice making, yet they dont fix the issues, just look at the comments here and on EVERY other post regarding the LG ice making issues....Its been going on for years....and THIS is the help you offer "Turn it off and then turn it on again?"......Its pretty sad that this is Still happening...Which is why I will NEVER buy ANYTHING again from LG.

The craft ice maker was not making ice and it was clanging 2 times a day for 60 seconds. During the clanging the instaview door would blink. I believe the line was frozen/clogged because it turns out we had the freezer set a -7. I opened the freezer up, moved the food for a bit and ran the test button 3 times while I took out the trays and wiped them down, found 2 ice packs ; ) and a mayfly : ( This must have allowed something to defrost because by the third time I hit the test button it whirred, clanged a few times and then 3 ice balls dropped out. Hurray!
I didn't realize that I didn't shut our freezer all the way. My husband found that while it looked completely sealed closed on the right, there was a small area on the upper left where it wasn't completely sealed. After a few days, it stopped making ice balls! 😪which I LOVED! He emptied everything & put fans on it for a couple of hours, put everything back in. Two days later, still no ice balls! We started looking up TH-cam videos & he learned that you can reset it. He took out the drawers, took out the part & saw that there were iceballs stuck inside, with a kind of nipple on them. He followed all the steps above, got them out & put it back & reset it. Two days later, still no iceballs. Can you tell me what the part number is that we need to replace the bottom ice maker that makes ice balls, please? I will add that we bought this for our retirement home & it was put in in October or November of 2019, and we LOVED this appliance and have had zero problems!!! Please help us get the fixed right now? I will add that my husband is an exceptionally handy man. We've been together since we were young (me 14, him 13) & he can do everything except paint a car. He's worked on cars & every electronic appliance there is, built furniture & was superb for troubleshooting for his company--one of the big parent gas transmission & storeage companies. Thank you so much! P.S. It would be wonderful if this appliance had an alarm to let you know there's a problem & the freezer wasn't closed completely.
Thanks to you ALL! I just found my 3 stuck balls of ice! After two days of trying to figure this out. That swing arm that drops the ice is VERY squeaky? Is there lubrication for it? I can see that arm not swinging open and holding onto the ice again. Waiting on the results. THANKS!
I eventually found the reset button, I pushed it earlier but never was able to get it to cycle. First thing I would do is use a hair dryer on low melt the ice enough that the tray starts to come down. Don't force it, will come down if it's melted enough. Clear the ice, 3 dropped out. Push the reset button and it will cycle through its process and fill with water. Wait for it to make ice. That reset button is directly in front of the arm that tells the ice tray is full. Clear the ice first.
Hi, there. Thank you for sharing your experience and tips! It's great to hear you found the reset button and figured out a way to help with the ice build-up. We appreciate your insight and hope your ice maker works smoothly from now on! If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out. -MC
No power switch on my model (LSXS26326S). Ice is forming in the tray, but freezing-up and not getting removed. It works only when I push the test button, but that only completes one rotation & then stops. From what I've been reading & watching, it has something to do with the sensor. Still unsure whether that's true and how to replace it. Side note, the water works fine (and of course the ice tray fills up properly), so there isn't a problem with the water line itself.
What a frikin joke - I had this icemaker repaired-replace 5 times within a year - when I told Sears I wanted it replaced as it clearly is the refrigerator faulty being only a year old. Their response they did not have all the repair visits logged with their system? WHAT? I give anything to have my 20 year old Kenmore back and only had to part with it because we moved.
Ok ppl. My husband and I have both tried for hours to find the damn reset button on this damn craft ice maker. (I would have just forgotten about it but have become very fond of the round ice cubes. Addicted to them, in fact). This seems like sort of an official video from LG, but for us the reset process has been totally impossible. What is the big secret???? Help! Do not want to call expensive repairman for something we can do ourselves. Supposedly.
Hey there! If you go to the 1:11 mark in the video, you’ll see where it shows the area under the icemaker where the reset button is located. Using a small mirror to look underneath the icemaker, you’ll want to find a U-shaped indentation, and inside that indentation, you’ll see a square button. The button may not feel like a typical button, but once you find the indentation, place your finger inside it, and you’ll be in the right spot. Press and hold this button for 5-8 seconds until the icemaker starts moving. If nothing happens after pressing the reset button, try turning off the Craft Icemaker, unplugging the refrigerator for 5 minutes, then plugging it back in, turning the icemaker back on, and pressing the button again. If you need more assistance, feel free to reach out to us on social media at @LGUSSupport. ~Nancy
Got my fridge yesterday. Freezer craft ice hasnt happened yet. Have to see if same issue as most on here. If not, regular ice cube and crushed dispenser will do. Bought fridge to refrigerate....not for golf ball ice maker 😳
@IlanDavid I waited a couple of days to see. Nothing happened until I pressed the hidden reset button. Then half sized balls eventually dropped. After that it has dropped 6 every day. Haven't had to use the reset anymore........so far 😉
Yes, it's to detect when the tray is full of cubes. If it is flipped "up" (horizontal) it will prevent the maker from making more ice. "Down" (towards the floor, about 7:00) will allow more ice to be made.
The diagram for the reset switch is unclear. Where is this switch? Do I have to take it apart to access the reset switch? Also, how long does the reset take?
I don't know if this matters since it's been 3 months since you posted this, but the reset button is on the bottom of the craft ice maker toward the front center. So if you reach your hand under the ice maker, you'll feel a hard plastic button about the size of a tic-tac. Push it for a few seconds until it beeps and then let it go.
@@bander1023 thanks your description helped me find the reset button and 3 half balls dropped. I pressed it again and heard the water fill and saw the arm dropped with no ice on it. Hopefully, I'll have cradt ice again. The LG video is awful in describing how to find the reset button
I’m a real rookie at this very poorly documented pricey toy, but it almost looks as though the test arm will not allow more than one layer of round balls to be made.
Its where you least expect, under the ice maker towards the front side, a tiny button that you cannot see just feel it, its buried in a recess of some kind! pull all trays out to do this. I found it just now! Eureka!!
Honestly all of us stupid LG consumers need to file a class action lawsuit. My fridge is a little over 2 years old and I've had the craft ice maker replaced and recently a new compressor. Of course the warranty didn't cover either... but I did complain very loudly over the craft ice maker since it was only 14 months old and LG paid for that. But the compressor was almost $800. This is the worst fridge I've ever owned. And I see I'm not the only one. What a joke LG--you should do better for the $$$$ we've all paid.

Who would have known there is a test button for Craft ice and a reset button for icemaker, both nicely hidden and unlabelled so no one can ever find them?? Maybe it's the Korean way to do things? I just did this and pulled out the ice that was stuck...All three pieces of my craft ice fused together into one piece of ice...had to reset it a couple of times being the ice chunk would get stuck as i was trying to gently nudge it out...Thanks for the info... that button is between a plastic guide thats in the middle and you have to feel around to get to it
I just had to do this, and the hair dryer worked quickly. Thanks for the tip!
Ours did the same except we'd get a large square ice loaf since the water would flow over the stuck cubes.
Ty Jeff! I used a heat gun on low temp to soften the ice and a small baking pan to catch the water. To find the reset button, use a cell phone on selfie mode. It is a white square located on the front left on the LRFXC2416S fridge.
Use a hand mirror to find the reset button. It was near impossible to find the button when feeling underneath at the awkward angle.
I just felt and found the button
That comment helped so much! Thank you
This tip worked for us - we unplugeed/replugged it back into the wall and it took two resets for water to start flowing back into the craft trays.
Can you close the drawer while you reser it? How Long does it take to do the reset cycle? Thank you.
Thanks for this! I couldn't find the reset button. Stopped working after an extended power outage. Working again, yay!
Anyone else have issues even finding the test mode/reset button?
I've had my refrigerator 2 years, purchased this model solely for the craft ice maker. It's been repaired 3 times, repair comes to see yes it's not working, orders a new unit, it eventually arrives from LG, service comes back and replaces it. So much time consumed and time without craft ice. It broke a 4th time and requested replacement of refrigerator with retailer. LG said no as it is repairable. Just repairable at my time and expense. So now reading how I can fix it myself. I may just give up and buy another refrigerator from another brand based on the questions others have here. I'll look to see if LG posted updated instructions as I'm almost ready to accept it's time to move on so that life can be good again. .
My second LG rfig, but no more! they have not improved the design, it craps out as soon as the warranty expires, thats the only thing that works!!
After checking for ice stuck and doing all the above, I fixed it by unplugging and plugging it back in.
Where was/is this switch
Thank you. This is just what occurred with our ice maker.
by wire do you mean the bar that tells the machine the ice bucket is full? or an actual wire somewhere?
God bless you haha this is what mine did and I just fixed it
This also worked for me. There was an ice ball stuck between the drawer. Seems like a design flaw with how several of us ran into the exact same issue.
Is the freezer door open during the reset cycle or do you close it? How long does it take?
Also I checked and there's no ice stuck.
@@honghanguyen804 Feel for a stuck ice ball, use a mirror if you can to see if there's a ice ball stuck preventing from fully cycling. The fridge stopped making ice balls about a month ago, and again there was an ice ball stuck again. Removed it again and it started making ice again.
@@honghanguyen804ok nothing stuck, try unplugging for a minute to reset the fridge
Does anyone have a video of proper operation of the test mode? My tray doesn’t seem to close. Also, the wire arm or bracket appears to be in the wrong position. Unfortunately, I can’t find a sing image or video showing what it should look like.
Hi Cris My frigde has the same issue did You find any sollution?

Ice ball stuck in back, keeping it from cycling. Works fine now
What a frikin joke - I had this icemaker repaired-replace 5 times within a year - when I told Sears I wanted it replaced as it clearly is the refrigerator faulty being only a year old. Their response they did not have all the repair visits logged with their system? WHAT? I give anything to have my 20 year old Kenmore back and only had to part with it because we moved.
I have an LG GR-L207. How to fill the water? Please reply
Mine is making a groaning noise and not dumping ice? but tray is getting water

Got my fridge yesterday. Freezer craft ice hasnt happened yet. Have to see if same issue as most on here. If not, regular ice cube and crushed dispenser will do. Bought fridge to refrigerate....not for golf ball ice maker 😳
Did it start making ice balls eventually? I just got mine two days ago. not a single ice ball made yet.
@IlanDavid I waited a couple of days to see. Nothing happened until I pressed the hidden reset button. Then half sized balls eventually dropped. After that it has dropped 6 every day. Haven't had to use the reset anymore........so far 😉
@@coscrupi I couldn't find a reset button so I turned it off and on and some half-ish balls fell. I'll look again tomorrow.
What's the silver bar for? Is that to detect a full bin? If so can that not become stuck?
Yes, it's to detect when the tray is full of cubes. If it is flipped "up" (horizontal) it will prevent the maker from making more ice. "Down" (towards the floor, about 7:00) will allow more ice to be made.
Mine keeps getting stuck up even after making just one batch of ice
The diagram for the reset switch is unclear. Where is this switch? Do I have to take it apart to access the reset switch? Also, how long does the reset take?
I don't know if this matters since it's been 3 months since you posted this, but the reset button is on the bottom of the craft ice maker toward the front center. So if you reach your hand under the ice maker, you'll feel a hard plastic button about the size of a tic-tac. Push it for a few seconds until it beeps and then let it go.
@@bander1023 Thank you for that. I ultimately found it by pushing randomly until I could feel something depress. 😂
I read and found my reset. But still can’t get my arm to go down
KOREAN design ! yikes I'm still looking for it!
WE have had ours for 3 days and the bottom on is fine but the top one is not getting water.
Where is the test button? I cannot figure out from the diagram where it is.
Now I'm using ice trays for reliable ice.

how long for the test mode
Hi David, are you wondering how long to hold down the test button? You should hold it for 3 to 5 seconds, and then the icemaker will start a new cycle. After it completes the cycle, please allow about 24 to 36 hours for the next batch of ice. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask! ~Nancy
Yep I had the tray backwards 😂
Salut , si mon lg fr door fait de la glace carre dans le congélateur je peux le changer pour le model qui fait des balls de glace ? dans votre video quelle est le num de part s.v.p merci

I’ve emailed LG and messaged them via Facebook with no response back yet
Thank you soooooo much
gotta say. I thought my Samsung was junk after about 3 years had to defrost icemaker every 3 or so months. This LG is disappointing. 4 months in had to replace the icemaker in the door now the Craft ice maker is on the fritz at 6 months. Absolutely ridiculous

How are you supposed to find the test button if you can't see it? This is a poor video.
Hi there Nealobrien! Thank you for your feedback. For most ice makers, the reset button is usually found on the bottom left side of the ice maker or directly on the front. If we may ask, what is the model number of your refrigerator? This way, we can locate the exact position of the button. We look forward to hearing back from you. ^Anthony

Who would have known there is a test button for Craft ice and a reset button for icemaker, both nicely hidden and unlabelled so no one can ever find them?? Maybe it's the Korean way to do things? Yikes LG needs to hire some Americans to get some common sense incorporated in their designs and make them user friendly!! Until then I 'm not buying this garbage. I think they hate their customers. Life is not good with LG!!
Americans and common sense ROFL
Worst video ever, how can you possibly find the test button??

I found it very easy to find. Use a large hand held mirror. You can see button in front
I admit, I had this problem too. If you are looking at the power button for the ice maker, it is just under that, but a little to the right, maybe 1-2 inches in. I used my camera on my phone to take a pic and finally found it.
