Oh my god!!! I LOVE THIS!!!! The gears, the colours, the oversize snail! It just screams steampunk! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
By far my favorite version of this mold! He definitely looks other worldly and the way the resin reacted actually worked in your favor. Fab!
Someone needs to do one with the other animals that eat the trash left in the waters. Showing what's left in their bodies. But this, this is pure art.💓 love it.

Ok! I figured out where I saw talking snails. There is an anime my son watches called One Piece, and in that the talking snails are called “den den mushi”. I’m ordering this mold!

This is cute. Congrats for not snapping the antennae. I think the one thing everyone is missing with the steampunk thing are the tubes and pipes. The idea there is that electricity was never invented and machines are steam powered. The gears, cogs, tubes and pipes make it look more mechanical. You should play around with it. It's so much fun. ❤

I love the cogs and metallic sheen of the mica! 😍 The ridges, lumps and bumps make it look like you made a mould from a real (mutant?) snail and then cast this from it! 😮

He's absolutely gorgeous, Claire. Those dents and dibbits just add to the overall effect. If it weren't for the cogs and keys, which are great, that shell would be darned close to being realistic looking.

I love this snail, Claire! He is SO cute! I have a smaller one, and yes...the the antennae (eye stalks) snapped. I UV'd them back on.. 😊 That 'slimy' part? It's called the foot. 😊

I think the human error side added to the steam punk value of this particular piece! I've seen a lot of people have issues with the antennae on these guys.

I am going to make some of these and glue copper pennies at the bottom then use them for my garden. Then they will be snail repelling snails.
If you wait for the resin to start to dry, and thinner layers will allow you to place them where you want and stay. Been wanting to try putting a wave on the swirl of the snail using this technique

Lovely snail! I just made a skull with gears in the head. It's much easier if you wait about an hour and then add the gears. The resin should be thick enough to hold them wherever you lay them. I even stood a few up using this method. I checked with one gear on and off until it was thick enough (removing the gear if it was not).
Not a steampunk fane but iLOVE your snail.. the bumps and lumps make it look natural. Love polymer clay too so looking forward to Saturday 🙂

I love steampunk stuff and chameleon powders are just amazing. I love these powders, don't think this is something anyone could get tired of using.
I want the frog, I thought about getting the snail, but I think most people just think it's just weird LOL. I like it though, apparently so do a lot of others too. So must not be too weird HAHAHAHA.

I would have to agree that the antennae of a Jesmonite version would be likely to break on demould from what you've said about how fragile it can be before it's fully cured. Sadly you can't leave it in the mould long enough to cure without it sweating 😔

Love the colours! Snails are hermaphrodites so the have both male and female bits, in case you were wondering how to tell. When they mate they choose which one is going to provide the sperm and which one will get pregnant and lay the eggs. They might be slimy but they are pretty cool!

Love the snail, Claire. You were talking about the antennas breaking off with using jesmonite, can you do antennas in resin and rest in jesmonite ?
