    Nick is such a decent and humble bloke and has never sounded bitter about the past.
    We used to often see him around the Hayes and West Drayton area.
    All the best, and thanks for posting this little gem!

    Thanks for an interesting listen. Hope the two Fandango albums get a re-release as well. The story Nick told about John Colletta's advice seems to've been lyrical subject-matter for the song Pull Out & Start Again. Imagine a tour by Nick and Nasty Habits with Glenn Hughes and his band!

    Nice work guys, excellent and well done John, you asked Nick exactly what I would ask him in regards to Purple starting to move in a heavier direction by the third album. Nice work.

    Great interview guys. Wouldn't it be awesome if the forthcoming, '1' album paid a tribute to mark one, or even featured all the surviving previous members in one way or another as, 'One'. Cheers!

    Nitpicker alert, sorry -- actually an opportunity for a plug: Just as Nick clarified that his band wasn't "Deep Purple", Glenn Hughes is out there as "Glenn Hughes". He's been celebrating the 50th anniversary of "Burn" by playing material from that album as well as "Stormbringer" and "Come Taste the Band" (and that one particular track from "Machine Head"). For a guy who's been through the wringer as he has, he really sounds amazing, especially since he's now into his 70s. He's got a great band with him -- the drummer is a real character -- and it's worth the price of admission for fans of that era. We were lucky in Dallas to get an extra bonus, "You Fool No One", thanks to Dallas's having been so supportive of Trapeze back in the day.

      I think I wasn't clear in how I stated it. I certainly didn't mean that either of them are calling themselves "Deep Purple" but merely that they're touring with the music FROM their mark or version of the band. I don't think I was very clear in the way I said it.

    War horse was a great band, and Nick is such a gentleman, I saw the deep purple lineup with Steve Morse , and he was no slouch, and I was very lucky to see rod Evans with Captain beyond that was an epic show

    The evidence is written on the sleeve of the album which says, “Nicky’s bass is a gas”. Nick always seemed like a super nice guy.

    Really great to hear from Nick about the early days of Purple and just generally about the British music scene in the 60s. The really peculiar thing about the Hall of Fame is that they didn't just leave out mk. 1 - that I could understand, - they left Nick out and inducted Rod Evans; senseless!

    • @TheDeepPurplePodcast
      @TheDeepPurplePodcast  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Very weird that they made that choice. I think they do almost everything to raise controversy and get fans talking about them. It's the only thing that explains some of their decisions.

    • @QuarrellaDeVil

      Kinda like Mark Evans of AC/DC and Bob Welch of Fleetwood Mac got snubbed, as did Ronnie James Dio for his work with Black Sabbath.

      @@TheDeepPurplePodcast why is he cut out of Mk 1 cash? He must have signed away his rights for a lump sum payout.Btw….I actually mixed sound for Rod 0:32 Purple in 1980.I did sound for the opening band and was asked to stay on for a $150. They were horrible, but as Nick said,they kinda looked the real DP.

    I have all the Deep Purple studio albums (except "Turning to Crime" not interested in cover albums) and there isn't a dud among them (Yes, I'm biased). The first three albums by the band, I believe are classics. Rick Wakeman called "Shades of Deep Purple" his favourite album of all time while interviewing Jon Lord. I think Rod Evans was a great singer, just not a screamer like an Ian Gillan or Glenn Hughes.
