- Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in "Footless and Fancy Free!," a storyboard from the shelved Oswald the Lucky Rabbit television series.
In 2014, an untimed storyboard for this episode was posted on TH-cam by Chris Headrick. (Link Below). I retimed each frame and added music and light sound effects to create a more accessible view into this fascinating period in Oswald's animation history.

Can’t believe Disney scrapped this. it had great potential to be a show
I will never understand Disney’s decision to not go through with this show. I was laughing and giggling the entire time, the visual gags were amazing and silly.
This just goes to show that Disney needs to take a chance on things and they shouldn’t just keep doing what is trendy or profitable for them.
This really could’ve been something.
The amount of manic energy from Oswald's hands alone is amazing.
Gee, I had no idea these storyboards existed until now. It's a shame we still haven't gotten a proper Oswald series, but maybe that will change someday...
Would love to see Oswald get his chance at a show soon hopefully the 100th anniversary of the company can give us some more media soon!
They need to give Oswald his own series now, especially with amount of attention he has been getting this past year

I love this take on Oswald. He's always smiling and cheerful.
He kind of reminds me of Luffy from One Piece.

This reminds me of the Cuphead show. It would be great if Oswald has a show like that too. My rabbit Boi deserved it.
I'd imagine this show would've have a smilier generalized feel of the Cuphead show, while borrowing elements(particularly the character designs) from the Paul Ruben Mickey Mouse series.
It also looks like it will either balance, or even be purely, be a silent cartoon series.
If the former, then there might've even been a possibility for them to bring Frank Welker back to reprise his voice over from the Epic Mickey games.
If the latter, then we may or may not have also gotten the similar kind of off the wall ren and stimpy-inspired shock humor both aforementioned shows would indulge in time to time, if not a more personal and character driven narrative like the Ducktales reboot.
Man I really hope they give us something with Oswald😔😔

While i don't mind creating new characters i think they should mainly stick to old Disney characters, like if they wanted to give Oswald a turtle sidekick they could use Toby Tortoise from the Silly Symphony.
I think it's best to give Oswald new set of friends with new personalities so his personality could mesh well

Toby Tortoise already has Max Hare, it would be awkward to add Oswald as a third wheel. Plus he's a rabbit, so a turtle friend makes a nice parallel; since rabbits are to hares, as turtles are to tortoises.
When I read about Cliff the Cabby I more or less fell in love with the character. I wanted to write stories featuring him.
It's a very good episode, even without any dialoge is still funny and entertaining. It's such a shame Disney cancel this
My ideal Oswald series is a series of silent cartoons paying homage to his roots and other cartoons of the 20s and 30s. They could even do some special season or even series finale where they make Steamboat Oswald a real thing! Steamboat Ozzie! That'd be so cool! All that said this animatic is still really cool, and it's both very fascinating and very sad this never happened. Oswald deserves more recognition.
Great use of the timeless river themes
You know since Iger was supportive and his departure had a cancelation in the project and since he is back bow I think someone should ask Matt to ask Iger if he could get the team back together to revive the project.
Another heavy hitting voice actor who auditioned for Oswald was Eric Bauza.
He is really lucky, whatever happens with him.
It’s a massive shame this never happened.

Episode pitch, It's a family reunion all of Donald's family is there all of goofys family and Pete's. Mickey never talked about his family nor has he knew about some of them.
As he explains to minnie why they've never seen them theirs a knock at the door. It's them Mickey's older sister and Brothers
Felicity, Julius and Oswald.
Now, all we need is the possible script for the episode(?) And voice acting and we've basically created a rough pilot!

i love this so much, i love Oswald’s Yakko Warner vibes with his facial expressions and demeanor, i also LOVE that they gave him a turtle friend for the ol’ tortoise ’n’ hare turtle and rabbit thing.
i really love Cliff’s design, also i think it’s good to add a few new characters like Cliff, like if Oswald just moved to Hollywood then he could’ve just met Cliff there, but also included some older friends like Toby the Bear and Homer the Cat, maybe also the Mechanical Cow, (there’s also this long faced dog from one of his shorts called All Wet, i’m kinda obsessed with his character design too i would hope they repurpose him, (they added him as a “crew member” in the racing game Disney Speed Storm and called him Hot Dog)) just so much potential 🥲

I get what you mean about the Warner vibes because 'this' version of Oswald would fit right in with the Sibs.
Anyone else got Runaway Brain vibes from this? Cause the premise seems pretty close where the main character loses a vital part that runs around haywire through town and a baddie wants it for their own nefarious purposes.
Except this one has more antics and is a little more lighthearted than the latter.
Other than that GOD I hope Disney brings this back, I mean the idea of this show is so freaking cool!

Probably why he was called throughout most of his Universal career Oswald the Rabbit, or just Oswald Rabbit.
Oswald looks really cool but he would look better without the neck.
One thing that Matt Danner tweeted out that I neglected to include in the video's afternotes is that storyboards are drawn by a storyboard artist with their own style, as opposed to an animator with a style-guide. Long way of saying "this is a rough draft, not the finished product."

I can't say anything that hadn't already been said in this comment section, but I am one of the many people who are disappointed this got scrapped so fast. It was genuinely entertaining and had me laughing a few times, I don't understand the reasoning behind throwing this concept away other than disney just not wanting to take any chances for things they don't think are profitable enough... seeing as what happened to epic mickey. This poor rabbit just can't catch a fucking break
