So we would actually recommend that the lower impression is taken first. Because this lower impression is typically easier, it boosts the patient's confidence and makes the upper impression easier now that the patient is more relaxed about the process. Thanks for watching!
As a lab guy who does a lot of model work. I hate receiving an impression where the doctor tried to cheap out and save 25 cents worth of impression material by not filling the impression all the way.
By using this method, you sink the teeth into the heavier putty material first and do not have to push so hard as to bump the teeth into the tray. The secondary wash stage will capture the detail. When you try-in the impression tray, if there are any areas that bump the teeth, use a different size tray or adjust the shape of the existing tray. Thanks for watching!
Hi Sam. That is a great question. It is really important to make the center line cut in the plastic sheet like I show. This allows the plastic to spread apart and allow the tongue to occupy the open space in between the lower tray. Additionally, for the upper tray, it tends to fold back towards the entrance of the mouth when the tray is inserted. I have not yet had an issue with a patient's gag reflex using this technique and I think the biggest reason is the use of the highly viscous putty that holds the medium body syringable material into place. The addition of the plastic sheet, in my experience, has a negligible effect. Thanks for the question!
biting on a cotton roll helps sink the arch into the stiffer putty material. Once the wash stage is performed, do not allow the patient to bite on cotton rolls as to not distort the details.
I appreciate checking your video. Thanks a lot!
Tip for everyone: Ask to get a mold of your top teeth first. That's usually the one where it makes you feel like gagging. The bottom one is a breeze.
I gag when just brushing my tongue. And back teeth. I use to make my self throw up when I’d feel sick. So. I’m definitely gonna gag 😂

You typically want to start with opposing arch or lower to prime pt for impression and avoid or greatly reduce gagging. Do not start with max!!
This series are great, I wish you guys can bring on how to treat wear dentition series in conjunction with the materials indication. 👌

Do you recommend this technique or veneer impressions?
It is better to take first impressions with digital device or in this way, are they the same
How do you prevent bumping the teeth up against the tray?

What about gage reflex from plastic cover

Anyone know if can i use it the same process for a complete denture's impression ?
Yes. Also u can also use a putty cutter. Cut the borders by 1 or 2 mm. Cut the relief areas. N voila...
Does anyone know if getting a full top denture if an extreme over bite is normal. When I say extreme I mean extreme
you are not supposed to use plastic trays with putty because distortion is more in plastic tray rather than metal trays
Continue to use the tray of your choice as this technique will certainly also work with metal trays. Thank you for watching!
Glad i dont have a uvula so i dont gotta deal with impressions making me gag.
Why you ask the patient to bite on cotton roll
biting on a cotton roll helps sink the arch into the stiffer putty material. Once the wash stage is performed, do not allow the patient to bite on cotton rolls as to not distort the details.
I absolutely hate dental impressions because I have hypersensitive teeth. The pain I get when the cold filling hits my teeth is extreme!
very beautiful
