The city has a fascinating blend of history and modernity. It was the capital of British India until 1911, and remnants of its colonial past are still visible in its architecture. The city's colonial history, vibrant colors, yellow taxis, chaotic bazaars, and hospitality of Kolkata people make it a city that leaves a lasting impression on anyone who visits.

In India no one takes used flowers because they cannot be offered to any deity. Yes howrah bridge is the hanging bridge without any pillar, designed by Mr. Charles Correa the famous architect. The man took the garland from you but he will not use it, he will go and throw it, because it is of use to him. Those tourist are from haridwar which is also on the banks of the holy river Ganga like varanasi, very close to Delhi
