The Landraider appeared in the Cursed Earth story line which started in 2000AD comic in April 1978 and lasted till October in the same year. I'm guessing Matcbox didn't bring out a special edition as they assumed that by the time it came to market the story or even the comic would have gone. UK comics then were often stopped after a short publication run if sales were low and nobody realised back then 2000AD would still be around decades later, many similar comics were lucky to last a year.

I loved my adventure 2000 set and I had the Command Center mentioned here. One of my favorite toys growing up. My father got it for me on Christmas and all my friends wanted it.

The battle kings (the military vehicles) came in 1975 and a couple were turned into Adventure 2000 in 1977. They were probably in production before star wars and rushed out, so they actually pre date the star wars toys.

I got one of these as a present, the Raider Command. I'd forgotten it came with some figures. I didn't know about the Judge Dredd tie-in until recently - over 40 years later - although I did have some early issues of 2000AD. That seemed a very long way into the future, then. In fact, it's now 23 years after 2000AD, and it was 23 years before the year 2000 that 2000AD launched. Yes, I feel old.

Catching up this morning. Love these matchbox. I always have. Always wanted these as a kid, but never got them. I remember seeing them in a Christmas catalog and begging my father to get them, but he didn’t. heheh
I’d love to have them now as an adult, but some of the prices are just beyond what I’d pay for them. heh

I had one of these and had no idea of the connection until I started reading 2000ad years later.
Loved these and still trying to get them all boxed again.
the shuttle launcher is generally a retool / re-work of the crusader , where the badge covers the hammer on the left section, and the missile launcher base was replacing the crusader original. also the rocket firing truck was a variation on dinky's shado2 from gerry anderson's ufo series.

I recently had to empty my parents home following their passing and my mum had carefully packed almost all my childhood toys away when I out in the early 90moveds to go to university. I knew all my Star Wars and Action Force stuff was there but not my Dinky/Corgi etc stuff. I opened a box to find Batman/Kojak/James Bond vehicles, and there was my Matchbox Raider Command - even with missiles! I always thought there was a 2000AD connection but couldn't remember why. I never knew anyone else who had this toy and didn't know it was part of a bigger line. Thanks for your research and information. (Even though I am at least a year late)

I have a landraider that I have owned since around 1978 complete with missiles and the tracks are still in tact.
The tracks are black. Is there a reason why there were two colours?
The plastic soldiers look like mega city judges so which came first, the cursed earth comic strip or did 2000ad copy a matchbox design?
The design was completely random, was used later for 2000ad. The tracks were also used for the battle kings tanks
