    Nice how to video. Good thing that snap ring didn't fly across the garage into dimension Z never to be seen again. My bandsaw is almost the same thing as yours so this is good stuff to know.

    The last few weeks I've seen videos about changing the blade, something about alignment, now changing the bearings.
    All I need now is a bandsaw.
    Anyway, there are any number of different bearing pullers but how come no-one seems to have invented a bearing pusher? 🤭

    • @jdmccorful
      @jdmccorful 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's called a "bearing heater".

  • @twocvbloke

    And for longer lasting bearings, use ones with a proper sealing ring on them, the metal cover type doesn't do much to keep dirt & debris out and the grease in, so they wear out sooner... :)

    I have one of these band saws, pretty well identical to the one you have there ROADKING. I bought mine back in the 1980's so I thought I should replace all the bearings with those C-3 tolerance bearings ( I used Timken bearings, I just don't trust bearings that are made that far 'overseas' )
    May I offer you a tip,.... when I had a bit a bother, like you did, in trying to keep the puller screw shaft on those bearing 'axels' I took them out and put them in the lathe, then I put a small dimple on
    the end of each axel , dead center, so the puller screw wouldn't wander off, if I ever have to do this again (I doubt I'll live that long though LOL )

    • @805ROADKING
      @805ROADKING  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Reg!! Great Tip, if I didn't have that Battery terminal puller I would do that!! It's almost like it was designed for that job!!☺

    MSC is a supply house like McMaster Carr, I have the identical saw sold by horrible freight, just a different color, like anything they sell you have to rework the machine, tighten it up and true it, good saw as long as it lasts. The flat bar your cutting should be laid flat so the most teeth of the blade are in contact with the material. run your blade guides in closer.

    • @805ROADKING
      @805ROADKING  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's as close as those guides go!!☺

    It is good you replaced all of the bearings. The new greased bearings won't spin as freely as the dry old ones. The old ones spin like they are dry. They can spin freely and be worn outside of tolerance.
    Note that 2RS bearings have rubber seals on both sides, providing a better seal against debris than the metal seals on the Z bearings.

    Hey RK! At the 13:55 mark in the vid just when you are tapping on the bearing it looks like the lower support moves a little. Might also be contributing to the problem. Good work!

      @805ROADKING  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good job as usual. To check the squareness of the cut of a bandsaw, use a block of wood. It cuts much faster than metal, doe not dull the blade and is cheaper. The larger the piece of wood, the more accurate the measurement.

    The thing that makes the blades pop off is crud and aluminum fillings getting mashed into the bottom big wheel- I took mine off and undercut it in the lathe slightly so the blades stayed on and it never jumped off again- SAME SAW

    Do you slacken the blade after use? I've got a 12" wheeled vertical saw, used mainly for wood. I had it cutting to one side and was told you had to drop the tension off when not in use as it crushes the set of the teeth where it sits on the wheels. Not sure if it's the same for metal cutting blade but works on corse wood blades. Might help you get better cuts? Always handy when you can actually replace parts on machines rather than throw them away!

    • @805ROADKING
      @805ROADKING  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the metal Saws are different, the pulley isn't as wide as the blade so the teeth aren't affected!!☺

  • @txsviking

    Check the bearing in the tensioner wheel. It will give a lot of grief if it wobbles.

    When you put the second bearing on the lower bracket (when vertical), I noticed the bracket move quite a bit (13:57). Part of the original problem might have been misalighnment from that bracket being loose. You probably caught that though, right? I like pressing my bearings on with a C- clamp.
