42DD is a great for a 1.8t. Got a 3inch dp to a catless Techtonics tuning catback w/ magna muffler. Sounds way nicer than full straight pipe, and makes you less annoying around town
Got almost the same setup in my 03 20ae. Drone get real annoying at stage two lol I def went back to resonator and muffler though. You still get loud when you on it but when you cruising sits smooth as shit. Sleeper. You gona see that 1.8t sound like shit when she wide open.
I agree bro it also depends on the exhaust piping you have if you want a good sounds. I honestly wish I got the 42dd exhaust (the best exhaust for VWs) at the time. The drone never bother me. I was always cruising between 60-70 and I didn't always have my foot on the gas. I think it sound best at when I was catted with a muffler delete. Next setup I'm going full 3in catless and keeping the magna flow.

Downpipe was from Amazon from a company called Manzo. The rest of the exhaust was done at Lou's custom exhaust
