  • In this clip, Prof Reddock reflects on the various stages of gender policy over the years, particularly commenting on the precarious nature of fields that deal with people and issues considered to be on the margins. She speaks on how Women’s studies and Gender Studies are constantly in a fight to maintain their space in academia and the world of policy which necessitates the formation of global networks and support for the maintenance of institutions that deal with these issues.

    Rhoda Reddock is Professor Emerita of The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago. Amongst other roles, Prof Reddock is an activist in the Caribbean Women’s Movement and other social movements; she is currently an elected expert on the UN CEDAW Committee. Prof Reddock is a former president of ISA Research Committee 32, she is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the International Sociological Association (ISA).
    Ragi Bashonga is a lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She currently serves as a youth representative to the United Nations for International Sociological Association (ISA).
