  • Having been appointed as one of the first female Deputy Principals of her university. Prof Reddock shares on her experiences of occupying a male-dominated role. She emphasises the importance of mentorship, and solid networks to accelerate women in management roles. Her key message, “keep persisting, keep insisting” continues to be important advice to women in management roles today.

    Rhoda Reddock is Professor Emerita of The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago. Amongst other roles, Prof Reddock is an activist in the Caribbean Women’s Movement and other social movements; she is currently an elected expert on the UN CEDAW Committee. Prof Reddock is a former president of ISA Research Committee 32, she is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the International Sociological Association (ISA).
    Ragi Bashonga is a lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She currently serves as a youth representative to the United Nations for International Sociological Association (ISA).
