      geting a new car next spring, change avery 3 years and new tires summer and winter. i follow your test with great intrest. next spring looks like im geting a toyota yaris hybrid, good alroumd mashine if it bit slow in accelration. here is the thing that i picked up for cars in nordic climate and winter tires, the weight of the car makes huge difrenses so for a yaris im going studds but for a corolla friction is fine. great reviews and keep up the good work.... ( mubling test also on gravle please) ;D

    I love the fact that you are doing what you are most passionate about for living which allows you to put all you have to produce the best content possible while having fun doing it. No cheap content to get rating up for TH-cam or warring about sponsorship and who to please with.
    The fact that you tested these tires at the same time as the All Sean / All Weather tires allows people to see just how much differences there are between the premium All Season vs the premium Winter tires in all weather conditions. It was a surprise to me that the tire with the lowest tread depth (Michelin) has all the best snow performance especially they usually have a tradition of long lasting tread wear and good performance even at low depth of tread at the end of its life. Well done and thank you for the hard/fun work review.

      Michelin have done something special with that tyre for sure! I'm sad I didn't test the same size of AS and winter, then we really could mix and match!

    I've picked Bridgestone LM005 last year based on it's impressive wet performance. These days we don't see snow roads in Poland as roads are usually wet and muddy. The tyre is very grippy, even enough grippy for my liking when there is some snow. However... The comfort levels are are a disaster. The ride went from comfortable (Conti TS850 was my last tire) to very harsh and noisy. Something to know for potential future buyers of this tire, especially if the car you will fit it to doesn't have soft, comfortable suspension characteristic, as I'm now considering replacing it with something else because of that...
    Great video as always Jonathan, fun to watch even when not buying tires ;)

      Ja właśnie zainstalowałem je na kia Xceed i na śniegu nie za bardzo, ale na asfalcie?Muszę powiedzieć-mega komfortowe. Z tymi oponami jest bardzo dziwna sprawa, mają sprzeczne opinie,od zachwytów po totalną krytykę. Odkąd znika śnieg,także zaczynam je bardzo doceniać ale fakt,na śniegu mnie po prostu zawiodły,profil 235/45 R18.

    This video proves exactly why I went with the Bridgestone. I live in Denmark when we have snow for maybe a couple of days, maybe a week in the winter, for the rest of the winter period it's a constantly wet and drizzling. They're really good for this type of climate.

    • @Pesmog
      @Pesmog 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used the Dunlops for the last two winters and have been very happy with them. In the winter I am not worried about dry braking and handling, just wet, cold and snow performance. My Dunlops in snow only seriously lose traction once the car starts to rub its belly in deep snow. The rest of the time it does everything that I need. Its surprisingly quiet and comfortable on the road as well as this test shows.

      @@tyrereviews Thanks. That's a really helpful reply to a good Van Der question. I live in the north pennines and usually drive on winters, but have been tempted by the thought of all-seasons for cost/convenience reasons. Hi! I really appreciate your channel, in my opinion the most interesting channel for tyre reviews I found on TH-cam so far. Although English is not my native language, I really enjoy listening to you and I'm amazed how detailed you can feel and explain even small differences between each tyre. This is really entertaining and a pleasure to watch! Personally, I am really satsfied with Vredestein Wintrac Pro tyres. I had them on my 2016 Focus RS (235/40 R18) and I also bought them last year for my Mustang GT (255/40 R19 front and 275/40 R19 rear). They did very well in snow and have a "sportive" touch on dry and even wet roads with direct steering and high levels of grip. They are not cheap though, but not as pricey as the Premium tyres from Michelin, Continental, Pirelli or Goodyear.

    Another fantastic review as usual brother. Tons of information, explanations and logic. The most comprehensive test. I have LM005 for this winter as I got them last year from the dealer when I bought the new car. Used them for like 2 weeks as season was over so no impressions to share. I am glad they turned out great for mild weather in you test as those are my conditions. I wonder if Bridgestone is loosing in snow and aquaplaning due to their weird logic of manufacturing tires with the least tread depth?

    • @tyrereviews
      @tyrereviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks! These actually had 8.1mm compared to 7.6mm for the Michelin, so it's not down to tread depth! I think the LM005 is amazing in the wet, but I'm a little concerned by some of the wear reports I've seen.

    Hello. Bought a set of Dunlop WinterSport 5 225/45 R17 in October 2022. The tyres came with DOT 1020 (with some discount for this) and I am pretty happy with them after 1000km in chill autumn environement. It’s a well balanced tyre like you said. I felt the car very well on direction for a winter tyre (dry roads, no pushing to the limit). Even if it’s not a new model anymore I thing it’s a good choice if you found the right price. ~310euros for a set of 4 in my case - Audi A3 8V Sedan 2017. Thanks for the work you done!

      @@tyrereviews Actualy verry impresive, the grip is better ans smoother than my previous 2014 A6, the hadling and brakin on snow is similar, its a 1.9 tons sedans so as the a6, theres more inertia than lighter cars, like the seat, but the stability control makes easy even on icy mountain roads, on dry roads it becomes verry impressive much better than the a6 and even the cupra. In track mode, well its up to you to chose where you send the toque, personaly i go 70%rear to make it funny on curves and 30% front to help grip out of curve. So i would its a verry safe car on normal driving, and pretty fun if you dare to go track mode on snow :)

    ooh, yes! what those guys said! It's time to start putting some tyres away, like fine wine. Set some on a shelf and take them out once a year for testing and rotate the others for use all year round and bring them back at testing season to go up against their younger selves! Tyre age and wear are huge factors in safety. Back in the day i had some tyres that were fabulous, new and turned diabolical after 3 years, still with plenty of tread. ANother set were useless when new, lost half the tread in under a year, then seemingly, by magin, turned into a fairly good tyre. (obviously compound layering). Love to see some follow up tests. (even on different cars. Interesting to see the relative performance changes.

    While no big differences, been shocked by the sub par results of Goodyear in the dry. My choice the last year, and 95% drivers would consider them summer on dry surface before high temps. What a fantastic tyres, except the poor ride quality.
    Cool to see Hankook scoring so well, hope Vredestein make it to the group next time.
    btw, absolutely understand tread wear not tested. Anyway, we expect the Michelin, Goodyear, and Continental being the best. However, if Dunlop is similar to previous gen, I would even disqualify them - easily the most expensive tyres I've ever used considering the price/wear.

    Having used many sets of winter tires, Michelin and Continental are my top choice for winter tires. I drive X-ice on my full-size pick-up truck year round. Dunlop used to be very good but they seem to have slid down the order (still running an old set of Dunlop winters on my X5 just to use them up but replacing them by late October). Hankook and Blizzaks I would not put hard earned cash down for. Unfortunately one my current vehicles had a brand new set of Blizzaks mounted when I bought it and so they will be put to the test this winter. (Blizzaks seem to have a softer top layer that performs well in cold weather but wears out in one or two seasons after which they are reportedly garbage....we'll see.)

    ...but, BUT... "Snowdragon" is clearly the best name for a winter tire. haha. Another great test/review. I was a little surprised that the summer tire was best on dry handling, because I've always thought one of the main advantages of a winter tire was a compound that stayed softer/stickier when temps dropped below 45 degrees F. I'm going to have to go back and check out the All Weather tire data/review to see how the "goldilocks" tires compare to the dedicated winter treads. Thanks again!

  • @MrZemIan

    A point I'd like to make is that if you live in a Nordic country tyres like the Michelin Alpin 5 can basically be a hazard due to horrible grip on ice if you don't take into account what kind of surfaces you encounter.
    I recently read this year's winter Tyre test made by "teknikens värld" over here in Sweden and they include ice testing. "mid EU winter tyres" dunno what the English term is, but like the alpine 5 tend to lack in ice grip. But the alpine 5 stood out because it did so bad on ice that they gave it penalties to its overall score, they could not with confidence let the rest of the performance make it look better than it actually is.
    Sure, they're not made for ice, That's what Nordic winter tyres are for ofc. But still. It's important to keep stuff like this in mind. Snow is one thing, ice is a completely different beast to master if you happen to encounter it.
    Just wanted to add this 🙂

    I wish you had a comparison of them on ice. Living in Minnesota we get cold for long periods and fairly deep snow a few times a year. But the past few years we have been getting horrible freezing rain, so everything is coated in slick ice where a person can barely stand up straight. I had X Ice on my 335xi last couple years and was not impressed.

    • @sunekarlsson156
      @sunekarlsson156 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed! Ice is probably the most challenging winter condition. (Black) ice is also the most dangerous. Snow or rain and a wet surface you can see and adapt the speed. The sudden spot of black ice is can hit you as a very bad surprice.
