Nope, the car runs on methanol, the fire trail is from unburnt fuel. I don't know of any burnout entrant that uses diesel on tyres.

i have heard (and perhaps you can correct me) that if you soak tyres in either diesel or oil for some time then fit them to the car and do skids you will get ALOT more smoke out of them.

I hear that as well, but I don't know anyone that bothers. Most of the entrants have enough horsepower to detroy the tyres anyway.
