We have been happily staying at the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area near Kissimmee, Florida. It's free with no time limit (until hunting season closes in April). One thing we have found with these different boondocking areas, is that they can randomly close them or disallow camping depending on where they are in hunting seasons or for other special events. We have definitely found you have to check with each management district because they all have different rules. So far, though, we have found there are a lot of different options for free camping in Florida. Thanks for the info!
Appreciate you "guys" so much. I spent 23 years as a contractor for the AF. Flew regularly on a research jet and miss all the GREAT career military folks. See you on the road.
Holy crap! Pulling into the free camping area, it looked like the potential for all those low hanging branches and many on either side to leave a ton of scratches on your rig. Hope that wasn't the case. Happy travels!
We loved that week out there at Washburn and never expected that Florida had great boondocking sites like that. I can't believe the GoPro survived those branches !! Looking forward to seeing the other sites you guys check out.
Another awesome video. Thanks! I want to upgrade to solar on our 5th Wheel, and if I do it will be an un-recouped expense. I don’t think I would ever get my money back, but the convenience of being able to make coffee without the generator would be justification! (Sounds good anyway!)

Phil if you want good clean drinking water I would suggest you try the Berkey water system I got the idea from the rv odd squad I’ve been using it for two months now .just put in regular tapwater into the Berkey and it will filter all impurities out and give you clean tasting water as if you’re drinking from a bottled water try it out you won’t be disappointed in you never to worry about your water again for the big big Berkey if you don’t believe me watch it on TH-cam

Another good video. I noticed a lot of low branches as you went in. Since the 5th wheel is higher than the class A’s did they have any issues with the trees? Looking forward to hearing more about the other free spots in FL.
Almost fell out of my chair when I heard y'all say were dry camping at the Florida WASTE Water plant 😂. I'm so glad y'all cleared that one up! Shoutout to McDill AFB - MWR for keeping such a nice clean RV camping areas. 🙌🏼 🇺🇸💪🏼
My new Red 37pa is only 5 months old. I couldn’t wack those trees. It’s bad enough when a branch hits the flexible radio antenna, it sounds like the roof is being ripped off. We don’t have solar or lithiums either so the generator would be running too much.
No such thing as too much! We boondocked out west and in the northeast without lithium or solar and love it. Even had to run the generator for AC and it was totally worth it.
Us too. We could really taste the difference with the clear2o filter. I spoke with them at the Tampa show and showed them the filter that we cut open. They said that we had some really bad water and the filter did it's job. The carbon filter is the way to go for us from now.
@@todayissomeday I showed Scott your video and he ordered some filters for us right away! I think running two filters might keep my paranoia at bay during our travels! Thanks!
You guys are so cute! Funny, helpful and NAVY! What was the radio you were using when he was backing into the spot? Walkie talkies? Just cell phone? Also, I'm curious about what kind of cell reception you have in the various areas. Thanks y'all!
Thanks you! We were using our cell phones, but we do have walkie talkies....that we forget to charge often! Ooops! We have pretty good cell coverage normally.
I have a question about your onboard washer and dryer. We are considering purchasing a different 5th wheel to have larger holding tanks and better insulation; we hope to do more and longer boondocking. With all the boondocking you can do now with your new set up, do you feel hauling around a w&d is a waist of space and weight? I'm not at all fond of using a laundry mat, but I am getting used to it. I would love to have a w&d onboard, but is it worth it for not being able to use it at at least 50% of the places we stay (Boondockers Welcome, BLM, and many state parks that don't have full hookups)? We appreciate all your sharing and have benefited greatly from it. Thank you!
We do not feel it to be a waste of space or weight. It is in the back of our RV, along with the engine. Some BW and Harvest Hosts have hook ups, so there is a chance you will be able to use them. We can go about 12 days before we need to go in and dump and refill water....so we will find a FHU to do laundry and head back out.

I'm pretty much the "do what ya need to do" kinda' person. So.............. SNEEZE AWAY, gurl. ROFL!!!) Hugs to both of you. That free site looked awesome. Wishing you both safe travels for the next part of yo' journey.
I should not be giving away more secrets, but Florida also has State Forests, you can find info on the web. And those State Forests have cheap ($10/night) campgrounds. Mostly dry camping but some have water in the cg and rest rooms. These are mainly out in the boondocks so I doubt there will be a flood of snowbirds heading for them. I believe that Florida residents over 65 (maybe) camp free. Check that website tho. There is one beautiful campground near where we live with wide semi-shaded pull thru sites with tables and fire rings and water in the cg. And I have never seen anyone camping in it. We hike the trails around it. Also there are three National Forests in the state which have dispersed camping. Next are the state WMA--Wildlife Management Areas. Some of which have camping except in the hunting season. Most of these but not all are north of I-4 which reduces snowbird interest and few if any are near the coast line. By the way, SW Florida Water management is pronounced Swift-Mud heh. At least among engineers.
I lived in Tampa for most of my life. My parents are still there. It's beautiful and this is the best time of year for humidity purposes. I also lived in Denver for 15 years so I love seeing the two Bronco shirts! Great video. Thanks.
love your info, but I'm from Canada and I will be in Florida later this year, my question is : Do you have to be a USA citizen to enjoy this type of camping ?
Do you have to be retired military to use McDill camping. Hubby's army brat & retired DoD civilian. Used to be able to get car stickers but they quit doing that right after he retired several yrs ago. So it's a pain to get on base...like where we live (Naval Postgrad School, or Defense Language Institute if you're needing a shortcut from 1 town to another)
Just found your video about installing Battle Born Lithium batteries. Very informative. Curious about if those batteries are getting charged while driving? If they are, did you have to make any changes in settings, and add control device between engine alternator and the batteries? TIA.
What system do you have that turns the generator on when your battery is at a certain percent? Our new rig will have solar and a generator but I was thinking we’d have to watch the percentage and turn on the gen accordingly
Ouch…how many solar panels did you lose going down that road?? Btw, cute helmet Phil, do you always wear it? I’m paying 1350.00 a month at a pretty sweet RV Resort in Port Charlotte, Florida. Safe travels folks

Yikes I don't think I could take our coach through those low hanging branches. Not worth the risk even if its free. But, looks like a beautiful place to camp once you get there
Dude. We don’t need you advertising away the last few places the snowbirds haven’t taken. Local Floridians can hardly get a camping spot November-March already!
First for the jokes. When needing to do laundry just buy more underwear. Second, Phil I know you’re a mustang but I was wondering what your enlisted rank was before you became a traitor and became an officer. And the question I bet others are wondering, what kind of issues do you run into driving through low hanging branches and so forth? What kind of damage do you get from it and how do you fix it and/or prevent it?
Phil was a Senior Chief (E-8) before he decided on a more lucrative retirement! :) Trees can be an issue when boondocking these locations. Sometimes you can trim them (we have a small hand saw) but some locations do not allow it. We have been able to buff out some of the scratches but no other damage.
You, Me & the RV I want to say wow about Phil being an E-8. Most mustangs I knew and served with may have gone to E-5 at the max before shifting over. Please tell me he didn’t have to start as a butter bar. That would have to be embarrassing. Butter-Bars need help wiping their own asses and I can’t picture Phil dealing with that crap.
@@mysterymayhem7020 As a Mustang you do start as a butter bar but it isnt the same. Mustangs are subject matter experts and dont play the butter bar games.
You, Me & the RV personally I would have stayed enlisted. There are a millions O-4’s around but making a high enlisted rank of E-8 which you probably would have made E-9 by retirement would have been better in my book. Secondly why are you awake so early. You’re retired, sleep in.
Haha!! Hey Bro, I hear ya on the charcoal filter thing. I did that on the home system and got skooled after 22 years "retired", using a charcoal filter for sediment. Guess I didn't have my PQS signed off on Environmental Systems while I was in....LOL!! Wish I knew you spent a few days at NOC. I just lived down the road. AD1 type.

Military Living has an awesome book with all the campgrounds and MWR rentals.
You, Me & the RV 🙏🏼 thank you much
Well, darn... Phill, I was waitin' on that sneeze, man! I had my hand out just a waitin' to yank away your man card!!!! hahahaha. (Yeah, probably the last guy to care about yanking away a man card. I'm pretty much the "do what ya need to do" kinda' person. So.............. SNEEZE AWAY, gurl. ROFL!!!) Hugs to both of you. That free site looked awesome. Wishing you both safe travels for the next part of yo' journey.
Thanks so much!! Good to see you today.
Great info! We will be looking into more like this!
Great numbers boondocking!! Skully could use some Glucosamine/Chondroiton!
LOL...right!
Hi, guys. I was just curious what size of rigs could get in there?
The one we were in could fit just about any size rig.
That's cool.
I lived in Tampa for most of my life. My parents are still there. It's beautiful and this is the best time of year for humidity purposes. I also lived in Denver for 15 years so I love seeing the two Bronco shirts! Great video. Thanks.
Thanks CLiff. We do love it here as well! Go Broncos!
We call it swift mud in Florida.
love your info, but I'm from Canada and I will be in Florida later this year, my question is : Do you have to be a USA citizen to enjoy this type of camping ?
We don't think so as we had a couple from Switzerland right next to us at ne spot we were at.
Do you have to be retired military to use McDill camping. Hubby's army brat & retired DoD civilian. Used to be able to get car stickers but they quit doing that right after he retired several yrs ago. So it's a pain to get on base...like where we live (Naval Postgrad School, or Defense Language Institute if you're needing a shortcut from 1 town to another)
With all the new base rules you will have to call them directly for camping policies.
Just found your video about installing Battle Born Lithium batteries. Very informative. Curious about if those batteries are getting charged while driving? If they are, did you have to make any changes in settings, and add control device between engine alternator and the batteries? TIA.
They do charge while driving, no changes were made to alternator but every rig will be different.
@@todayissomeday Thanks.
Hubby and I cannot wait until we go full time too! We hope to one day meet you guys!
That would be great!
Thanks for the video .i hope one day me and wive can do what you guys do
Thanks for joining us!
Great info! Keep up the great job!
Thanks!! Will do.
Thanks for sharing this free spot , we are newbies learning where to go 👍😁
Welcome
Congratulations on your solar!
Great job guys!
Gator
What system do you have that turns the generator on when your battery is at a certain percent? Our new rig will have solar and a generator but I was thinking we’d have to watch the percentage and turn on the gen accordingly
Automatic Generator Start by Magnum. It was on the rig when we got her but you could have it installed.
I don't know if I missed it, but I am not finding the links to the filters in the description!
Ooops....they are there now. Thanks for letting us know.
Ouch…how many solar panels did you lose going down that road?? Btw, cute helmet Phil, do you always wear it? I’m paying 1350.00 a month at a pretty sweet RV Resort in Port Charlotte, Florida. Safe travels folks
None panels were hurt or lost (thankfully). I always wear a helmet....don't bounce like I used too!
Do you have to be a retired veteran to park there or can a two year veteran use it as well 👩🌾👩🌾
You will have to go through the VA to see if you qualify to visit any military base. Each Veteran will be a case by case approval.
Pro tip, Phil: those skivvies are reversible. Just doubled your boondocking time. BOOM! You're welcome. - Love, Air Force. 🤔🤪😂
LOL....you forgot front to back as well! LOL Go Navy!
@@todayissomeday Front to back?! How gauche! My tackiness DOES have standards, you know. Hahaha
Always appreciate your efforts for vids, tips, tricks, and silliness. SALUTE!
What time of year is this video and how were the bugs?
January and the bugs were not an issue.
Phil, your man card is safe, for Now!
Safe travels and good health 😎
Well for now at least! lol
Do you have to be a Vet to stay military bases ?
You have to contact your local VA to see if you qualify....not all will.
Tampa Native here, hope you enjoyed my home area.
We love it!!!
Hey Stacy since you saved some cash on the boon docking Any Chance you could increase Phil's allowance this week. for the Super Show? Please Mam. Help him out this one time. And maybe a little for yourself as well. I wish you both Ton's of Happiness' and Success'
God Bless You Both Abundantly, Nick
Hahahaha! No way! Gotta stick to the budget!
The dont judge joke cracked me up
😂😀
Great review guy's!
Thanks
I have a 9AM appointment at the Tampa VA Dermatology Clinic for MOHS surgery on the right side of my face between my eye & ear . I have squamous cell carcinoma . Keep your fingers crossed for me that the MOHS surgeon doesn't have to keep taking thin layers until he doesn't see any more skin cancer under the lab microscope . Sorry I didn't get to meet up with you at the Tampa RV Show . Are you still going to be staying at MacDill AFB Campground after February 1st? If so I'd love to meet up with you and hang out & have dinner or lunch together . Please let me know . At Washburn Equestrian did ya's see any body riding horses at all ? January of 2018 I went to the Tampa RV show & went to the meet up that Marisa & Nathan from Less Junk More Journey . Marisa was pregnant then with their son JJ . I also got to talk to Julie & Marc from RV Love . They riding around on a Golf Cart selling the book they wrote on RVing . How is your son doing ? Is he off duty , on light duty ? Did he get a another car yet ? I hope he's doing better by now .
Good luck with the procedure Bob. We leave MacDill this weekend and start heading North. We didn't see anyone on horses at Washburn. Our Son is doing well....thanks for asking. He rebounded well....oh to be young! No car yet, but he is looking.
Good info...we enjoy boondocking, but also like the benefits of staying on the bases. #retiredNavy
Ditto! MacDill was very nice!!!
Front to back, then inside out, and front to back again.
And Hufflepuff. Geek time done.
Lovely campsites. Always nice to find pretty AND cheap. Thanks for sharing.
Didn't you say that is Military base camping??....I'm so sad to say that doesn't qualify for free camping for us...Husband was in navy for 6 years, but was discharged in '78........no disability.....so we are SOL for military camping of any kind....Unless you know some secret that we are not aware of....It would be wonderful if you do.....Please, let me know....😉😉😁🙄 We appreciate it when you refer public lands, that we may possibly use....Thanks, guys............Thanks for adding info on more free public sites in FL...Love you, guys......GO NAVY!!
That video had a base campground and free public lands camping.
@@todayissomeday Yes, as I listened to the vid....you referenced the free campsites...Thank you, so much!!
Yikes I don't think I could take our coach through those low hanging branches. Not worth the risk even if its free. But, looks like a beautiful place to camp once you get there
It was pretty awesome! Missed the branches on the way out.
Wow you are in my neighborhood, lol I enjoy watching your videos,
Dude. We don’t need you advertising away the last few places the snowbirds haven’t taken. Local Floridians can hardly get a camping spot November-March already!
Donald Bailey lol
Most will not want to boondock out here in the middle of nowhere if hookups are an option somewhere else.
You, Me & the RV Good luck finding any of those
So totally agree. Its the Best time of the year and us Floridians that work cannot find camping spots.
Is it DoD friendly?
Not sure. Each base has different rules. I would call first. Fingers crossed!
Surprised the Air Force didn’t have valet camp sites and a concierge service 😂
#goarmy
Right! LOL
You guys are bad!! Air Force doesn't have valet parking for "other services". Just joking; AF brat and AF wife.
That free site looked so Quiet & Relaxing!!! Thanks for the info.'s!!!! LOVES/HUGS!!!!!
It was AMAZING!! Thanks for joining us!
Yikes!!! The branches on the paint😱
Right!
AD1 type.
Awesome!
Almost 50,000 subs ever forward
Thanks for the support! Getting there. Slow and steady!
an interesting camping opportunity. The Roads We Roam recently posted a video on a similar campground. You might check it out.
Thanks.
Looks like a few trees on the road need trimmed !
They were a bit low. Most of these areas dont allow trimming.
Thank you! :-)
I thought the heading was FREE camping?
Did you watch the entire video? We talk about the free land we stayed on and how awesome it is and how to make reservations to stay.
