No. It's a great film. But it's highly praised everywhere. If you haven't seen it, please watch the original Conan the Barbarian. But underrated would be like, more overlooked. Like Synecdoche New York or the Way of the Gun.

I loved the Ulfhednar ritual scene in this movie something about it just gets you pumped up to fight and I loved how they showed the Ulfhednars basically having hangovers/withdrawals after the raid really made the realism with that added part since you know those Vikings who fought like that took a lot of drugs before raids
Imo, what makes this a great scene is how much weight there is in every movement of the horse and Valkyrie. It shows really well that this is a large flying animal carrying an armored person on its back.
Robert Eggers seems to always include a magical female creature in all of his movies that end up having 1 minute of screentime and are still memorable. The Witch - The Witch. The Lighthouse - The Mermaid. The Northman - The Valkerye.

There is enough archeological evidence on this one. As for another Indo European group known as Germanic people, it is well known shield maidens existed. I am sure there are other Indo-European examples of Indic/Iranic/European female warriors from the past.

I have read the Eddas and the Icelandic sagas, and I was thrilled to see some of their supernatural beliefs on film. Someday, someone will incorporate a fylgja and landwights into a story about northmen.
I thought this movie was fucking beautiful and the way they incorporated the nordic culture was fucking beautiful my family is Swedish/ Norwegian and I loved how Eggers showed the valkyrie queen, Odin, his ravens, the berserker ritual, the world tree, and the final battle and Amlefs entrance to Valhalla was so beautiful

This scene took me out of it because usually Eggers leaves a level of ambiguity about how supernatural the events really are, but this just stripped it bare.
It is not braces..., it is teeth filing. Yes, some Vikings actually did such and no. It is not recommended, nor part of good dental care.
