Haha, same association! I've read somewhere Stevie started using his middle name cuz he liked the way it sounds: "Stevie Rave on". Crazy mthfckr, love him!
I didn't know about Buddy Holly's version either. I've always headr the version by Steeleye Span, this UK folk music group. They do a very cool a capella version of it, check it out.
I think you guys dont realize that M.ward isn't trying to be like buddy holly, thats why I don't like it when people compare covers. If you like buddy holly thats fine, but don't compare him to M.ward because thats not what hes trying to do, I dont think his thought was this is gonna be better then the original.
@salsburysteakjr Oh I suppose I was. I'm at the I-don't-give-much-of-a-darn phase at this point, though. About this issue, mind you. I moved on to another biggie: 1nalawest does a nice version of the "Beautiful" song "by" Cristina Aguilera. Cristina has had over 2 million views. Nala has had about 280 in more than a year, since hers has been up on TH-cam. Kind of stuff like that can stick in this boy's craw y'know what I mean? WELL DO YA, PUNK???!!! j/k
Who first performed or recorded this song? The CRICKETS, that's right. More than Buddy Holly sang and played instruments on the recording session. Are you all clear on that? And who wrote "Rave On'? Yeah...who COMPOSED it? Not Buddy Holly. I like him, I think he was great, but really. This is not Holly's song, it is not A Buddy Holly song any more than it is an M. Ward song. Buddy AND his band recorded it back in 1958. Did a spectacular job, too. Okay: written by Tilghman, West, Petty.
My favorite Buddy song. Recorded movie in 90's with Busey. Now you. This can't get better. Still have movie
Buddy would like this, he was very innovative in the studio.
One of the best song of 2009!!!
Reminiscent of the Honeydrippers and that's pretty fine.
buddy holley filtered through classic 80's new wave techniques....and it's all brilliant! hope this guy's star keeps getting bigger and bigger!
Awesome cover.
@GetterMario73 one of the best song of 1958 !! :D
Love the way you paced it.
one of the best songs 2012 haha
Thank Pandora on my Fruit Bats station for playing this song. I dig it.
I've always thought m. ward is sort of the modern buddy holly, it just works so well.
Awesome! I really like this...

@dancingwdeer I LOVE YOU
Of course, but I'd better simmer down...I'm starting to see double.
Yes , the original is way way above this effort. Buddy Holly's Rave On is amazing . The original 10/10 , this version 5/10.
