This defeat marked Akhmedov's second narrow loss in a 12-round, 140-pound title bout in nearly three years, echoing his sentiments of feeling "robbed" in previous encounters. The fight for the vacant WBA belt, relinquished by Josh Taylor, exemplified the determination of both fighters, yet it became evident that neither would secure a knockout victory.
As the championship rounds unfolded, it became apparent that neither Puello nor Akhmedov could inflict enough damage to force a stoppage. The intense exchanges continued until the final bell, with Akhmedov persistently pressing the action while Puello strategically countered his advances.
