A cardiologist actually prescribed a higher salt diet for my teenager. At different times every year, she experiences a high resting heart rate/heart palpitations. Docs don't have an explanation except maybe stress (claims everything is fine and I try to keep home stress low), lack of exercise (is a couch potato after school), or diet (maintains a healthy diet and doesn't consume too much sugar (sugar and chocolate are the suspected culprits because it mostly happens after consuming sugar; caffine is also rare).

That and seeing heart doctor here telling kidney doctor not to eat salt like he does and kidney telling heart doc it's necessary, I'm just surprised to hear a heart doc perscribe salt.
It's only recently that we started having salt in the house but I never cook with it the rare times I do cook (we eat out alot or eat pre-packaged foods - I'm just now having more time to learn to cook but I can only make and expiriment with mashed potatoes and Baby Purees. As I gain more confidence in cooking, I'll add a little more to my skillset.) I prefer the natural flavors of my food without salt. I consume enough with any flavored drinks and prepared foods anyway.

I was doing my urinalysis/hematology rotation in lab as a student, and the nephrologist and her resident doctors were talking to me on the multi-head microscope. The nephrologist asked, "what cells are those?" to her residents when I focused on the eggy looking cells. They confidently said RBC. I corrected them and said, "No. Those are not refracting on the red spectrum and have no central pallor. Those are renal tubular epithelial cells."
She was happy with my response. (Yay!) And she lectured her residents as I walked away to work on diffs. :^)
