      Hey Doc, this is off topic but I'd like to ask a question I'm curious about. Have you ever heard of, read about, or met anyone whose poor vision has blunted their emotional awareness?
      I ask this because I have astigmatism and keratoconus, so my vision has gotten to be a problem. It seems to me like my emotional awareness is low when I'm unable to see a person's eyes or facial expressions. I suppose it's common sense to assume that a low awareness (due to bad sight) of another's expressions (and expressive eyes) can diminish emotional connection in social situations, but I'm curious to know if there's any data or experience you have that correlates with that.
      Emotionally, I'm great, but I find it hard to express myself emotionally when I can't perceive the subtle emotional cues of another.

    I've been getting my prescription after an eye exam for over 20 years. For the first time ever, the pd wasn't on my rx. I thought it was an oversight so I called the office to get it. @THX..1138 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Very cool app I wish I had come across this vid last week before I ordered glasses....Anyhow I notice this app gives a slightly different number depending how close you hold the phone to your face. Closer will give a little lower #, further a little higher. I measured my PD few times in different ways with a ruler in the mirror and seem to get a DP of 72mm, but a few times thought it may be more like 71.5mm. Just now I used the app a few times and got a range between 69.5mm when the phone was closest to 71.5mm when the phone was at arm's length.
    I would say to get the best reading you should go for arm's length and try to have the camera square to your face with the lens at eye level and centered between your eyes. Having the phone like that will give an image with the least distortion and thus best reading.

    Hello dr 👁️ thanks for this video. I have had eye test after two years and they said the prescription changed slightly although I haven’t really noticed any change. I picked up new frames one for sunglasses and normal one. I noticed headaches and dizziness and my vision in new glasses is blurred so not as it should be taking that there stronger lenses. Went back to them thinking they will do another test with this new glasses, was only seen by the assistant and he asked me to look around the shop and asked how I see .. then took my glasses went away and said he’s manually adjust them. I asked about my PD and reluctantly he’s check it and admitted that he’s colleague got it wrong! Then asked if we are leaving them as they are or should they change my lenses!? I said change them if it’s wrong! Week later I collected them and I see no difference at all! I think they were not changed at all, and he’s just playing a placebo effect on me. I guess they would need to cover the cost from their own pocket hence it wasn’t done!
    I booked another eye test in different opticians up the road is more expensive however I want to have an independent result to compare and see if the prescription is correct in the first place and / or wrong PD. If I prove they’re at fault which most likely is the case I will request for a full refund for both pairs of glasses and the rest itself!

    I see that measurements are needed for the left and right pupils distances BUT if the frames are not centered exactly correct on the bridge of your nose because your nose is not symmetrical or your frames are off center slightly it will be off measurement anyway.

    It would help if the optometrists cold just measure the PD during your visit. They never do that anymore at a certain big chain store. They want the opticians to do it when you buy the super expensive in store frames, and even then, they really don't want to share that with you. The waited until after I paid for the pair of glasses before they printed something out with my mono PD. I hope that measurement will be correct for the rest of my life :)

    I recently went to for an exam and purchased an extra pair of glasses. I am near sighted and wound up getting bifocals because of my deteriorating night vision. Basically my first bifocal prescription. After receiving them, I was immediately upset. During my exam I told them (more than once) I spend most of my time in front of the computer screen and don't want to tilt my head back to see. Well, that's what I am doing. I have degenerative arthritis in my neck and spine. Very uncomfortable. I was insistent on making this point when I was there. Now, I have two pairs of bifocals I basically use for driving. I can't order a new pair unless I have an accurate pupil distance, which (I think on purpose) they didn't provide. Very frustrating after spending a fortune - even with insurance! I am going to give this app a try and hopefully avert another costly visit. Thanks.

      Such a bummer to hear that Geo. I wonder if there was some miscommunication on their end. Oftentimes, if you are at the computer for a long time a dedicated prescription for computer glasses is ideal. I know some clinics don't always provide the PD on the script but most clinics will measure it for you if you ask, some clinics do charge for it as well.

    I have high myopia.
    My left eye is -8.25 myopic with -1.50 astigmatism. My right eye is -9.00 myopic with -0.75 astigmatism.
    I went to an optical shop today, and the worker used a special equipment to check my PD (pupillary distance). She said it is 58. My left eye is 28, and my right eye is 30.
    Should I use the "overall" PD when ordering glasses, or the two different eye-specific PDS when ordering glasses?
    I think she said that the two eye-specific PDS are usually only used when purchasing "progressive" lenses or "bifocal" lenses. I am not, I am only purchasing single distance lenses.

    • @Tyler-Wiley
      @Tyler-Wiley ปีที่แล้ว

      You only use "overall" PD if both eyes have the same pupillary distance. you have different PD's in each eye and therefore, you select two different eye-specific PDs when ordering glasses.

    Why is it so hard to get measurements from my optometrists. Not once have they ever used a pupilometer on me. I have to ask to get my binocular pd to get vr lens inserts, and my last dr. Just measured real quick using an old ruler.
    And just for my own knowledge I requested my monocular pd from the technician (if he was one) at the front desk and he gave me wrong information saying I can just divide my binocular pd by two.
    Not once have any optometrist office provided glasses that are custom for my face and pd, hence why I want the information so I can provide for myself and order elsewhere.

    Is dry eyes temporarily or permanently disease?

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fantastic question Nino. There are many treatments for dry eyes and unfortunately it is difficult to tell what the BEST treatment is. It would depend on the type of dry eye you have and the severity of it. In general, dry eye is not considered a curable disease, some people may have dry eye symptoms, but when someone has dry eye disease then it is something that can be treated and managed but often not "cured"

  • @theFLshark
    @theFLshark 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I reccommend the app PD Meter Pro! You shouldn't look directly at the camera when you take the photo. You should look into the distance and take the picture. Your pupiliary distance decreases when you focus on closer objects. You can do a dual PD with many apps. Just pick the bridge of your nose for one point and the pupil of each eye with the second point. If you did it correctly. The dual PD should add up to the single PD. So, if your single PD is 66. Your monocular PD might be say 34/32 or 34+32=66. The monocular PD is typically written as 34/32. The first number is your right eye (OD "oculus dexter in Latin" of 34) and your left eye (OS "oculus sinister in Latin" of 32)

    • @DoctorEyeHealth

      For most people no. Thankfully our eye muscles adjust to this. However, for some people it can be troublesome and then they can get new glasses made for just computer use. That may ease eye strain.

    I've always wondered how the PD was measured. I do recall having it read by the eyeglass provider, but for some reason never by my optomitrist I asked her today (just had my annual eye exam) and was told they don't have the equipment needed, and that it's always done by the eyeglass provider.
    As a progressive lens wearer, I've always experienced the eyeglass provider technician using marker on the actual eyeglass lens, and have never felt comfortable with that technique, where they hold the pen while I have the glasses on and mark where my pupils are directly onto the lens. I'm not comfortable with that technique because I can see the pen "wavering" a bit before it marks the lens...how accurate can that be? Is there equipment that provides a more accurate measurement?
    I'd like to order my glasses from Warby Parker, and while their PD measurement app works well (it uses the same technique as this video), I'm now concerned that, because I wear progressives, I really should go to an eyeglass shop in person.
    Any advice you could provide?.

    • @NikolaHoward
      @NikolaHoward 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had glasses "fitted" with this pen on a plano lens technique - and I got eye strain as described, as they got one of my focal points off,and I'm a single vision wearer! :-( .
      That there is a machine that does it is very good - I wonder why prescribers don't use it!
