DJI Osmo Action 4 settings:
- 4K25/50p
- Rocksteady On
- FOV Standard (Dewarp)
- Shutter 1/50 or 1/100
- WB 3500K-4500K
- ISO 200-3200 (Each clip was shot at a different ISO value to test the low-light capabilities of the Action 4. I recommend not going higher than 800 for the best noise performance.)
- Sharpness & noise reduction -2
- Color D-Log M
Everything was shot HANDHELD, manually exposed with ISO and heavily color graded in Final Cut Pro.

RE: D-Log M - do yo just do a basic shadows midtown and highlight grade or would I need to load a LUT.
Just a basic grade. No need for a conversion LUT.

Go Pro 12 better come with some special sauce. The low light gains on the OA4 is NUTS.

It does pretty well in low light for an Action Camera. However this makes me really wonder if the Action 5 will perform that much better. I think it's worth the wait. Nice video btw.

No worries. The video is shaky because the stabilization doesn’t work well when shooting with slow shutter speeds. I just tried to be as stable as possible. However, I’d always recommend a proper gimbal for best low light results.

Got it today. Man am I disappointed. It's nowhere near as good as the Samsung Z4 fold straight out of the camera and the Z4 is not even a well known phone camera.
I played around with the sharpening and noise but the image is simply muddy and the details just aren't there.
I think you've used the computer power of your editor and D-log to get such good video. It's a fair bit of work.
I'm planning to use this for diving where the light levels can be quite low under piers and caves. Looks like I'll have to learn to colour grade.

This cam needs a gimbal in low light. The vibration on light sources is crazy. Otherwise, really good tho

I have the result at night the lamp light seems jittering when moving, seems something wrong? My setting 4K 30fps, rocksteady on, Wide
Shutter speed must be too low. Try raising it to 1/100 or 1/200 and also try to be as stable as possible. Otherwise, a gimbal is recommended when filming in low light with ANY action camera.

You mean the HERO12? 99% It won't have a 1" sensor. From what I saw, it's basically the HERO11 with blue speckles, 1/4" thread, HDR, HyperSmooth 6.0 and some other minor improvements..

Nice work Roma. I just picked up an Action 4 and I'm heading to India for a 19 day moto trek. I'm taking both my Hero 11 and my Action 4 but I think I'll end up using the Action 4 the most. Just curious if you thing a Gimbal is a worth while travel addition? What would be your choice? Thanks again.
Thanks. A gimbal is only worth it with an action camera if you heavily rely on ND filters or if you need it for specific shots. Personally, I don't use a gimbal with my action cameras.

You're welcome! It's my personal preference because I like to have as much control over my images in post-production as possible. I didn't apply any noise reduction to the footage.

Is dewarp only available in standard mode only or can you set the FOV to wide and use dewarp with that
Also does it shoot proper HDR videos because my Samsung s23 Ultra shoots HDR video and everything looks insanely brighter, like the brightness and contrast are massively increased (but balanced well) if you kbow what I mean ??
Thanks! Dewarp is only available in Standard FOV. The Action 4 supports HDR shooting. I haven’t tested it, but seems like many people online like it!

Hi .. unbelivable Colorgrading wow. As i tried to set the 1/50 Shutterspeed with my action 1 back in the Day. The Rocksteady didnt work at all and the picture was very muddy. Is this still an issue with the 4 ? Thank you :)
Thanks! It’s an issue with every action camera on the market. The muddy image you was seeing is because you shot at a slow shutter speed which decreases digital stabilization performance.

Did you do much post production work on this footage? Ie editing software. Or is this closer to how the raw video from the camera comes out?
I did a lot of color grading with this footage, but no noise reduction or anything like that.
Do you think the low light performance is on par with the pocket 2? 🤔

I don't know. I haven't used the Pocket 2. However, the Action 4 has the best low light action camera performance on the market right now.

When using the sharpness and noise reduction it eliminates the option for low light enhancement. Why did you choose those settings over the low light enhancement?
Because I want to be in full control of everything and I’d rather adjust things in post if needed. The low light enhancement mode probably just puts the NR to +2/3 and I don’t want that as it’ll probably introduce artifacts.

I recently got the GoPro Hero 12 for my birthday, and I absolutely love it for videos in almost all instances of good light. Looks great in sunny days. But it falls apart in low light. I’m thinking of buying an additional camera for when I want to do low light shoots. I am considering the Ace pro, the action four and also the Osmo pocket three. Of those choices, and considering I already have the GoPro… Do you have a recommendation?
@@babyboy1971 The Pocket 3 is the best one when it comes to image quality, but it's the most fragile because it's a gimbal. I don't know about the Ace Pro, but I can highly recommend the Action 4!

How is Rock Steady in low light when there is no artificial light?
It's shaky just like on any other Action camera. I tried to be as steady as possible when filming this video.
This is where you would think the Pocket 2 would shine, but in my experience it doesn’t. Still too much noise. Makes me wonder why they just don’t release a Pocket 3 with the Action 4 sensor.

I color correct every camera I use. It doesn’t mean it’s not realizable..
Dji action 4 are still not good for low light environment and I can see they still have a blurry image.. and i Watch other reviewers here in TH-cam they also The same issue..
I think the Action is fantastic in low light, considering that it’s an action camera. These tiny camera aren’t designed for low light shooting, but the Action 4 holds up pretty well.
And the image is not blurry. The minimum focus distance is a bit further on the Action 4, it’s 40cm.
@@Romafedorov Dji action 4 should not exist yet. Dji action 4 is not worth upgrading from dji action 3. My iPhone 14 pro Max can do better in night video..
In my opinion, the Action 3 shouldn’t have existed at all. It was a flop of a camera when it comes to image quality. The Action 4 should’ve been the 3.

Stabilization on 14 PM is weird. When walking there’s that earthquake/vibration effect on screen when moving with it every step taken

Throw it on a gimbal, and it's great in low light. You can see the electronic stabilization struggling to keep a clean image at such a low shutter speed.
