The arpeggios at the end give me chills everytime. Suddenly it's 2007 and i'm 18 again, great reaction to a great song. I'd also say trying the track "White Walls" by them another superb journey through musical wonderland. They excel at musical storytelling and both tracks end in an extremely satisfying way that makes you reflect back on the rest of the track in a totally different way after it's over, like a good narrative in a film.

Talking about stamina, I went to their 10 year anniversary colors tour, and they played the 70 minute album without breaks between songs. Hands down the best show I've ever been to

Me too. Went to the 20 and it was nuts.
Went to the same show, except it was the night before the release of colors II. After the first run of colors, they went offstage but the lights never turned on and they wernt opening the doors. About 10 mins later Tommy comes out and says something along the lines of "well it looks like its after midnight which means you can snag up our new cd now at the merch booth, but we will let you preview it first now." and immediately the piano notes hit and started off colors II. It was magical. I got covid after that along with 2 members and half the people i knew that went, but it was worth it.
By the way, the piano and synth are done by the singer. He does both live, including often just not playing when it's not called for. These guys are next-level good.
For the last 10 years or so the bass player also plays keys live
Additional fun fact, singer was also the guitarist for a Prayer for Cleansing.

I was grinning ear to ear when he said he would love to hear BTM's guitarist's flexing their musicianship live. Reason being that I just got back from seeing them on their first concert on the first leg of their new tour since the Pandemic began and words fail to describe how incredible it was.

Mr. Geebz, keep on with this band. They've done a number of operatic prog metal albums and they infuse literally all styles at various points. Colors was hailed as the Metal DSOTM. Colors II comes out in a week and a half. You'll definitely gain some traffic if you build to that.

i just saw them last week. too much bass. i tried both sides of the room. they have their own sound guy, no doubt...but guitars were lost in the mud

@@shredmetalshred7395 Interesting. When I saw them live it sounded so good I honestly thought there was some kind of backing track/trickery going on until they started improvising a bit and i could confirmed there wasnt.
You need to do 2 songs in one reaction, back to back "Sun of nothing" which runs into "Ants of the sky" many of their best albums are full on concept albums which basically are intended for you to listen to the whole album as one song. That being said I know that's practically impossible for you, so the 2nd best thing would for you to do 2 of the best songs back to back. If you want to do 1 song I'd recommend Swim to the moon or White walls which are the finales to some of the fans' fav records.

No, Selkies isn’t their only “oo aa” track. Like 40% of their songs are “oo aa” like this. Most BTBAM songs over 7 minutes are all over the place like this, in the best way. Tremendous musicians.
I still get goosebumps every time I hear that solo and I've heard it a 1000 times. Between the Buried and Me is the best band in the world IMO. Their new album Colors 2 just came out two weeks ago. Please give it a listen, it's magical.

A lot of their music can be a wild ride, they are masters of the 'peak-valley' style of composition. If you want to hear another crazy track I'd recommend, Ants of the Sky, like several other commenters have suggested.

Yes, for the alaska album this was the "ooh, ahh" track. From colors moving forward, the entire albums are "ooh, ahh". Colors plays as a single composition broken into tracks, with many leading into the next. Check out the final two tracks from that album, "Viridian" and "White Walls". Greatest breakdown ever. But it's a 20-minute musical excursion. Worth every second IMO.
Other good tracks from Alaska include Autodidact and Backwards Marathon.
Colors for me is one of those albums that needs to be enjoyed in full, if I just listen to a single track it gives me serious musical blueballs

These guys are FLAWLESS live, and this song is hands-down the most beautiful thing I've ever heard performed. I can't help but close my eyes through the last half and let it take me away. I couldn't have clicked on this video harder when I saw it pop up. BTBAM are so talented and their music is so varied and deep, I'm excited to see you explore them more.

I got to see them in Florida with my oldest son. It was amazing and to avoid the pits we were off to the side of the stage and evidently got to meet a few of the guys and the openers as well. Amazing experience, even better show!
I took my 55 year old dad to a BTBAM concert back in 2015. They played Selkies and he had to pick his jaw off the floor at the end. He turned to me and silently said "That was the greatest song I've ever heard".

This is my favorite song of all time, of any genre, and I'm so glad to see it getting the Key of Geebz treatment! This is the album that got me into really heavy metal and vocals. Because I was a jazz band kid, it made that music make more sense to me.
Disease, Injury, Madness gives me chills every time. Seeing them live is like nothing else.

The fabled Selkies sweeps can transport you through space and time making that few minutes feel like seconds, and then feel like hours afterwards. Has been and will continue to be my favourite band of all time, purely because each member can bring their amazing musicianship and meet in the middle seemingly effortlessly. Glad you got to experience it and really appreciate it Geebz!
I first heard Selkies 14 years ago when I was a teen. Since then BTBAM has been in my top 3 bands. Absolutely incredible
King Redeem/Queen Serene is such an amazing song by them. A bit more ethereal in some places, and just on a whole other level.

finally!!! we have been asking for soooo long hahaha. Love you geebz. This is and has been my favorite song by BTBAM since I first got the CD Alaska back in 2005 when it came out. This remains my favorite album purely as a love since it was my first metal album like this I had ever gotten my hands on as a young teen, and for so many nostalgia reasons. Every album they have done is amazing though especially Coma Ecliptic. I can't wait to see your face on the last half of this amazing piece.
This drummer is in my top 5 of IMO best drummers of the past 20+ years and will remain there till the end of my time. Blake Richardson is unlike any other drummer I have ever had the pleasure of looking up to and listening to.
Blake is also a very humble and kind person. I've talked with him several times after the shows. Even when I have been way too drunk he have taken time to chat for a while. After one specific show a friend of mine told him that he was an up and coming drummer and the fact that Blake was his biggest inspiration. Blake light up, ran back to the drum set and gave him a broken a drum stick. My friend asked if he broke it on "Ants of the sky" and he replied "wow you really noticed?" We took pictures and they stood together and talked for a very long time after the concert. Sometimes he even spends hours talking with his fans after the shows. And that's one of the reasons we love this band over anyone else. They're not just incredible musicians. They're also awesome in any other way
@@MrTelorix I've had the same experience with him, my good friend is a drummer and he took all the time in the world to talk to him and I and was so polite and humble the whole time.

One of my favorite things about being from North Carolina is the fact that they always come here to charlotte or Asheville and it's great. Looking forward to TGM show next month.
I got Alaska back in 2005 and it made me fall in love with btbam. I liked the self titled album but Alaska is what blew me away. I've seen them live about 8 times and met all the guys. They are all super cool dudes. My best friend went to high school with Dusty bc she is from Winston Salem
Him and Danny Carey are at the tip top of the ice berg. Their creative vision is absurd. Both BTBAM and TOOL wouldn’t be nearly close to the same bands if it wasn’t for their drummers. They deserve ALL the credit.
As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the best songs ever written, when I first heard it as a teen, it blew me away and radically expanded my understanding of what music could be
It's definitely one of their standout tracks and a really good, diverse showcase of all the things they can do within a song. Next, you could either check out "Obfuscation", or "The Coma Machine" which is a newer song that leans more into the old school prog rock vibes you discovered here

The whole Colors album is probably the pinnacle of their catalog. The musicianship on that album is one of a kind with so many beautiful nuances.

Ants of the sky is a must!
Whether it's a reaction video or not you should listen to their entire album the Parallax 2. It's a concept album, plays through like an old Pink Floyd album. No breaks between tracks, tells a story, almost like a progressive metal opera. It's their masterpiece in my opinion. Going to see them in a month, can't wait.
Love it. Watching your expressions through the song is super entertaining haha. There are no wrong choices with this band. My favorite song, as far as one that really gives every band member a chance to show off, is Swim To The Moon. It's a really long song but an absolutely amazing journey.
I'd second Silent Flight Parliament along side STTM
The ending of Selkies transports me to another plane emotionally. It feels like taking off into the clouds and leaving the world behind, and fits with the changes in the “movements” that you mentioned.
The aggressive middle section highlights the ugly side of human nature and all of the things that divide or control us. In the last section, we are finally free of all the worldly noise and able to truly enjoy the human experience. I think this is what he meant by “the sweet relief”.
This is easily my favorite band. Every album brings something a little different. Pick anything. We will be here.

Seen them live many times, but just recently was overjoyed to see them again as it was my return to seeing live music since shows were shut down last year. The show was originally supposed to be May 2020 then postponed to August 2021. It did not disappoint.
The acronym is pronounced as B-T-BAM. So just three syllables. You're gonna fall in love with these guys and their tour just started if you want to see them live.

I remember playing with Glass Casket a few months before their drummer left to join this band and play on this record. He was great then but really leveled up on this album. Just beastly. And BTBAM slays live too.

Saw these dudes in Seattle a while back with August Burns Red and Good Tiger. When Paul nailed that final note after the flurry of sweep arpeggios, he saluted the crowd in the venues and I have never felt so much power from a band before in my life.

This is it. This is THE song. I'm so happy to see it here on the channel finally. I was 12 when this album came out, maybe 13 or 14 when I actually heard this for the first time though, but still to this day the back half sends chills down my spine and brings a tear to my eye. It's a standard I've still not heard quite matched all these years later.
Yes, finally! You should listen to another one of their tracks, Voice of Trespass. It's brilliant. Or Swim to the Moon. These guys are one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Tommy's vocals are incredible.
Nah, Voice of trespass is quite boring in my opinion. It's very predictable compared to all the other BTBAM songs. The "scat" section of the song is pretty cool but the rest of it is too much "swing"

THE SOLO AHHHH! this was back no one was doing guitar solo's in metal and it was considered uncool. then this beautiful song dropped and it made every guitarist I knew take arpeggios seriously again. Do not sleep on this band.

BTBAM and Underoath were the two bands in my early/mid teens that got me back into the metal scene. I discovered both of these bands on Headbanger's Ball on MTV2 back in the day and have been a lifelong fan since.
This Alaska album definitely changed me. Back in my retail days, I used to work in a drive thru convenience store called Swiss Farms. Listening to this album alone in the mornings got me thru some rough 6am openings haha!
Please consider Lunar Wilderness or Swim To The Moon by BTBAM next (it's long so be warned!). Any reactions to their work is welcome regardless!

Ive seen a ton of great SHOWS live, but they are probably the best BAND Ive ever seen live. They are flawless.
Almost any song by them has that wow factor in some way or another, I always say they play music for musicians. Swim to the Moon is pretty epic as well as White Walls or Fossil Genera A Feed From Cold Mountain.
Fossil Genera must be the dopest song of all time, in my opinion
This band is such a can of worms! They've got a lot more songs with unique arrangements and flavors layered throughout.
Mirrors/Obfuscation (1st 2 tracks off The Great Misdirect), is one of their better representations. Really fun listen🤙
Not gonna check the thousands of comments, but just in case it hasn't been mentioned, they didn't record this in a studio. It was in one of the members' bedrooms of their parents house with the drummer behind a bedsheet hung from the ceiling using cheap basic equipment. Amazing album.

2 things that make this song great IMHO.
1. That clean guitar solo is just soul warming and wraps around the ears like a cloth of silk.
2. The very ending section, sounds to me like it is the outro theme music to an early television sitcom. If you listen to it, and pretend you are the announcer saying things like, "recorded live in front of a live studio audience", in that charasmatic tone these announcers had, will really have an effect on you! Sort of along the lines of a three's company outro tune. Maybe, im crazy, but thats what signals that section hits in my brain!
Keep doing what you're doing. I'm enjoying it. I'm actually a huge Prog Metal fan, so I love these reactions that don't get enough attention. Behind Haken and Opeth, BTBAM is right there.

Phenomenal song, but I'm not sure he'd have too much to say on it. The title track is long, but probably a better representation of their compositional talent.

BTBAM (Between the Buried and Me) is all over the musical spectrum. Any track you listen to will have so much going on. I first heard them when a room mate let me borrow their first demo back in 2003, and it blew me away.
When the Tommy kicks in with screaming you can see the pained expression on his face and Im here for it.
Supposed to be learning about sorting algorithms right now, but I can definitely set aside 20 minutes for this!

I saw them for the first time shortly after this came out and I was blown away watching Paul Waggoner play those sweeps. This was one of the first tracks where sweep/taps were introduced to my ears. I couldn’t comprehend. Amazing band! Rock on, Geebz!
For all the praise you see in the comments for BTBAM, it doesn’t do them justice. These guys are possibly the most creative band playing today. I hope to see a buuuunch more of them soon!

So there was a theory in my graphic design classes that I relate to metal among all things. In a picture if everything is big then nothing is big. The idea is if you drew huge buildings and they covered the pic none of the buildings would look relatively big. SO many bands do this with metal where there is no relative size soundscape to elevate sounds. Where as BTBAM, Devin Townsend,m and a couple others are very good at making sounds stick out with dynamism. I love heavy, but the dynamic change highlights the heavy even more.

If you want a musical journey I’d suggest one of their really long tracks. Swim to the Moon (my personal favourite), Viridian+White Walls or Silent Flight Parliament.
I wouldnt say that this is there "oo-ah" track as they have soooo many incredibly composed and played songs... How about "Telos" by them next?

Thank you so much for listening to Between the Buried and Me. I never expected it to be a band you would cover. I have been a fan since about 2004 (just before this album was released) and this was my absolute favorite song for a long time. I think because of their genre, there are so many people who have, and never will, appreciate them. They are so talented. And, to answer your question, this was an early "Oooh ahhh" song, but it is not unique in its ability to show how talented these guys are.
Please, when you get a chance, listen to some others. Here are some suggestions:
Informal Gluttony
Sun of Nothing (long track, but has so many fun parts)
White Walls (probably my top pick)
Obfuscation
Desert of Song (a bit of a slower song, but still amazing)
Swim to the Moon (my second pick)
I had a hard time narrowing it down to just these 6. Basically, you could pick any song from their Colors album or their The Great Misdirect album and find pure gold. More than 10 years after they were released and I just can't get enough of these two albums.

Yes!!! They are currently on tour and they release an album in 9 days! Heard BTBAM for the first time a couple years ago and fell in love almost instantly.
This song was what got me hooked on BTBAM. I've seen them play it live and it's fantastic. Also, Dan Briggs (the bassist) is phenomenal.
Another vote for Voice Of Trespass. I feel BTBAM have gotten more incredible with every album, and this song is the highlight from Automata for me.
Selkies is their encore track. Always highly requested since the song was release in 2005. If you start from their self titled album to now, its amazing how they matured as musicians but still kept that feeling that has always made them BTBAM.
Colors album will blow you away as it was composed to be played from start to finish rather than just separate arrangements on an album. They beautifully combined to lead you on an incredible musical journey. A story of notes.
This song gives me goosebumps, it always has with every listen.

BTBAM has a LOT of "Ooo Ahhhh" tracks. They're incredible. The Album following this one is called "Colors" and it was in my opinion their best work. It's meant to be listened straight through, but I'll second anyone saying listen to the final track "White Walls"
Got to see this song and many other favorites live two nights ago in Lawrence, KS. Probably close to if not the tenth time I've seen them live over the years, and they NEVER fail to impress. Even with Dustie sitting in a chair the entire set for reasons unbeknownst to me (I'm guessing an injury?), they still completely destroyed! As one of the last surviving groups of the metalcore-era still putting out top quality material, I hope this band never calls it quits and continues to grow and evolve forever! LOVE THESE GUYS!!!
