    I don't own a Subaru and don't have plans to but I felt emotionally invested in the timing belt replacement. Empty feeling inside not seeing it through to the end. Weird times!

    Saw the cams jump. That's all I needed to see. I was worried I did something wrong even though I was following the Subaru Factory repair manual to a T. Still, thanks for the video. I am now confident my execution was dead on.

    The cam holding tool really makes the job easier in the long run. I use to use breaker bars to balance the cams out so it wouldn't spin, but I finally bit the bullet and bought the tool from Company 23.

    I just put Defenders on my Forester, we'll see how they hold up as I've heard they don't last. I fully realize they have 80k warranty or 6 years and expect to file a claim if I have to. Love them so far pushed them real hard in the rain and they never lost traction. Really pushed them like flying by people on the freeway while it was pouring. Hard ramp driving no issues. Do notice loss of mpg, but if the traction is there like it seems I don't mind. We'll see soon how the snow driving is.

      @steelski01 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JS-tb9hu Its to reduce emisions on cold startup.
      It has a fan to push in extra air direct to the ignition points so that it gets a cleaner burn. All well and good but the system is notouriously unreliable, and only reduces emisions for the first 30 seconds. When the engine is warmed up, all is well and the system closes itself up. If its not broken already.

    My 03 Forester with the 4EAT auto trans has a belt guard above the crank pulley. Why would this be?

  • @hallkbrdz
    @hallkbrdz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's hard to tell from the angle of the camera, is there less space between the engine and radiator on this than an OBXT? We used a stubby HF earthquake XT impact to remove the crank pulley bolt, worked great.

    I'm in the middle of doing this on my 2007 and had a bad a/c clutch so I bought one to replace it and found out there are two different a/c compressors meaning two different clutches. Can you confirm this? Yours looks very similar to mine. The only differences I could see from pictures of the two where the pulley diameter and the way the plate that holds the 12v wire for the magnet mounts. Mine and yours has the Philips head screws on the top, the other design has them on the side. Have you ever ran into this?

    This is Bryan. Enjoy your videos, am thinking of purchasing a Subaru on next vehicle purchase. The engine work seems overly complicated as compared to a inline 4 cyclinder but, they seem to have the best AWD system. I'm trying to decide if the trade off is worth it.

    Is there any particular reason you use an electric ratchet over a small impact gun on the front of the engine after you get the radiator out of the way? I've used both and I like using my 3/8" electric impact because I find it to be faster to zip those bolts out.

    I'm curious if you might be able to help me. I have an 03 outback EJ253 5 speed. I was sitting at a stop light, the light turned green I started to take off and the car stalled. I started it backup, it hesitated like crazy and didn't want to stay running, I pulled over to get out of the lane and I shut the car off. After smelling what smelled like burnt oil I checked all the fluids and looked under the car for leaks. Everything was fine. Started it up with massive miss fire and an eventual blinking CEL. I shut it off, pulled all the (new) wires and plugs for oil saturation, all clean.... Pulled timing belt cover to check slack in case it jumped a tooth... Seemed fine. Haven't done a compression test for burnt valves yet. Any other suggestions?
    Also will my ECU still run an EJ254 DOHC ACVS? From what I've gathered I can swap intake manifolds and be good. Hopefully that's true?

      I'd test cylinder compression/leakage on #3. Then move on from there if you confirm that the cylinder is sealing properly. If you have compression, check for fuel and spark.

    Hi!
    Is AISIN the OEM manufacturer for Subaru timing (and clutch) parts? Or you just wanted to save some money for your customer? If not, is it comparable quality with the OEM? In 10.000 km (about a year) I have to change it and I'd like to change it by myself in my 2006 2.0X Forester with high quality aftermarket parts.

    • @MrSubaru1387
      @MrSubaru1387  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Aisin kits use the OE Koyo, NTN, and NSK bearings/idlers. The kit uses the OE Mitsuboshi timing belt. The only thing not OE Subaru in Aisin kits are the water pump. The water pumps are made by Aisin. Aisin is the OE water pump provider for Toyota and Honda. So, no worries about the quality.
