My First Ever Multi-Night Adventure • 3 Nights Alone in the Wild • DAY 3 in the Rhinogs, Eryri

  • On the last day of my trip, I visit a gorgeous rock pool then descend from the slopes of Rhinog Fawr down to Llyn Cwm Bychan. Here I had some time to relax, have a go at stone balancing, watch the sun set and reflect on my journey before heading home the next morning.
This trip has been one of the best things I have ever done; it has also increased my confidence, knowing that not only can I survive by myself in the middle of nowhere for days at a time, I can also thrive. As my first backpacking trip, the memories of this will always be special to me. Having said that, I can't wait for the next one! :D

I've been saving my comment until I had seen all three of episodes of your Rhinog trip. Very well done young lady, from an old man who has been wandering, climbing, cycling, bivvying and camping for almost 60 years. The Rhinogs are a pretty wild and remote area, not for the faint hearted! Sensible change of plan decisions, even though you had exceptionally good weather. Your enthusiasm for the outdoors is infectious and inspiring making watching your films an absolute delight. Thank you for taking the trouble to film, edit and post your adventures.

Aw hi John, thank you so much for your lovely comment :) yeh I had originally planned to summit those 2 mountains, but it wasn't going to happen this time around and it was perfect just the same. I'm really glad that I got to do the circular route that I'd planned out and it's the advice of walkers that I met along the way that I have to thank for that, I would have turned back if I wasn't sure if I could safely pass by Gloyw Lyn. So glad you liked them :D I had the best time and it's so nice that others get to enjoy it too. I'm certain that the weather will get me next time, I had blissful weather my previous trip to Snowdonia too, overdue some weather challenges for sure 😄 Thanks for coming along on my little journey and have a lovely weekend :D Claire

Remote as Cwm Bychan is, in 1983 the BBC filmed scenes for Doctor Who along the road side of the lake. Here's one scene, the place hasn't really changed since: th-cam.com/video/6fDh_RgZr4Y/w-d-xo.html

Thank you so much for doing these videos.
I didn't say, but I've traveled every step with you and it's been... what ? Cathartic? Certainly moving. I've shown this place to a few people over the years, having first gone there aged about 14, and I'm now 58, with grown up kids of my own.
My dad was a South African bushwhacker (literally), who had climbed Mts Kenya and Kilimanjaro,as well as several other big African peaks, Scottish Munros etc, and this was almost exactly the route he took me on as my first wilderness experience. He died just before the pandemic. Your videos have brought a little piece of him back to me, so really, sincerely, thank you.
In return, my gift to you... I've traveled the World. The single most beautiful place I have ever been is a place you might never want to leave if and when you ever go. Go to the Isle of Skye. See both Cuillin ranges, and walk the Quiraing on the Trotternish Peninsula. You'll remember it for the rest of your life. And the locals are just lovely.
      Neil.

oh Claire, what a beautiful trip, i love your videos and only found you a few days ago (02,01,22) ,and i am loving this channel, i watch a few bush crafters and have for a few years now,my favourite being mathew posa, until now, now you and mathew are my joint favourites, and what made that decision for me was not just your content, your soft ,kind, gentle, demeanor and voice, heartfelt attitude for the nature around you, then when i saw your eyes fill up explaining what you will remember, you just broke me, i cried with you, yes you made a 49 year old man dry, please try and make the videos longer, would love to watch a good hour video, keep up the fantastic work and look forward to seeing loads more this year..you are awesome...

'You can always be happy where you are going if you are happy with where you have been...' - Take it from someone fast approaching old age, it is really satisfying to look back at life's adventures. It makes you very comfortable and happy in old age to remember back on your achievements. It's inspiring to everyone if you have stories to share, and you certainly will have stories to share. Congratulations

Well done, the Rhinogs are pretty wild sometimes, that heather/marsh can catch you out. Loving the videos.

Your emotions said it all, Snowdonia is not a wilderness, it is a stunning place that needs a little more effort to enjoy, as such the idiots stay away, which makes it even more special, when you consider the tiny island that we are, we have so many areas of extreme beauty and diversity,
Thankyou for bringing them to your audience, ❤.
And I'm not going to mention your lighter issue, lesson learned, we've all been there 😉, but I bet it won't happen again, it takes a few fails to hone skills as you have shown in some of your vids, you're not afraid to say when it goes wrong, this is something to be admired, many would cut it out.
    Take care Claire ❤

Yes when I am old I want to remember the trips I made in 1972 and the time I left work to undertake a 6 month European Tour way back in 1975. No what I am older I have to carry on campervanning and wild camping in the hills which is where I am off to now at this moment, going to park up for the night and go for a wander first light. Happy camping Nessmuk.

Very well done, a joy to watch. The work that you put in to making these inspiring videos is very impressive. I have done many adventurous trips through out my life, crossing the Sahara being the pinnacle for me. I can honestly tell you that your journey from novice to seasoned back country hiker is truly impressive to watch. The bravery you muster to do this all on your own is fantastic. The scenery you have captured very beautiful and the honesty you convey about your experience is touching. The call of the wild has truly bitten you and you have a very bright future for your self in this field if you continue to convey the passion you obviously have for it all. The world is your oyster and full of wild places so there is no reason why you can't do this and make a success of it for the rest of your life. You are a natural at it all, gifted at presentation, editing and beautiful choice of music, it must take you hours to put this all together. Congratulations once again and I look forward to watching your next adventure. Go Wild Bear.

A wonderful series of videos. I only got into wild camping in late 2019 and then Covid hit so have the gear but haven’t been back out yet. This has inspired me to get out again. I must also say, your grand cinematic shots, music score choices and video editing is excellent. You’ve turned a simple vlog into something of tv show quality. It was emotional and beautifully captured (even if the boggy shots didn’t do it justice, we believe you!!)

  • @robg3545
    @robg3545 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Those three vlogs were great. That is proper hard rubbly terrain you got through there and you kept on going. Really good route planning and navving right though with changes of plan to fit the conditions. And aside from actually doing it, it was beautifully documented as well. You came through it brilliantly, one of the best UK walking/wildcamping vids Ive seen for ages. Well done.

Your videos of this area are superb. It really is a fantastic area of mountains and you can get properly away from people. I spent a 4 night expedition here (many years ago) when I was in the Army and undertook Mountain Leader Assessment; our assessor told us if we could navigate our way around here then we could go anywhere! It certainly was a navigational challenge as the first 2 days were very low visibility and we were counting paces, walking on bearings and practising going from point to point. I saw loads of Red Kites overhead and remember it fondly.
Good for you walking this area and wild camping it!

I’m bewildered by your natural spirit beauty 😍 I’ve been lucky enough to grow up around these very mountains and have enjoyed many memorable adventures here. I revisited Rhinog fach at the beginning of the year after many a year and found a tear rolling down my cheek at it’s outstanding beauty and it’s deep roots within me. Knowing these mountains first hand, the terrain is very tough and quite dangerous to the unwary traveller with pot holes, hidden rocks and heather that eats away at the hardiest of stamina & spirits!
You are absolutely capable 💪 and clearly enjoying your adventures with an infectious spirit for the self supported solo journeys, nourishing both body & mind.

I hope you never stop your adventures, but if like me you do, you will be old with wonderful memories. There will be others, as you are now, filming their own adventures and deep inside you will feel a need to get back out.
I know, because that how I feel. Many years ago, I wandered about all over the place, dragging along a tent, tarp or just an old army poncho, I still have great memories of those times.
But alas circumstances changed and the adventures slowed to a stop, my last mountain in 2005, was Radhost, in the Czech Rep. Unfortunately in 2006, I had a car accident and smashed my legs, after which I gave up the gallavanting.
But thanks to you and many other younger adventurers, I find something stirring from deep within, a need to get back out there. Yes, I am much older and the legs have complications, nevertheless I have set my sights on Helvellyn in 2024 and with determination, I will gaze down on red tarn once again 😁

Admirable and inspirational in every respect. I'm half way through binge watching all these amazing videos. Wildbeare has rocketed right up to the top of my favourite TH-cam channels. It's already got me motivated to get back out and do some walking, if not quite at Claire's level. I did a fair bit during lock down, but had lost the momentum as life kicked back in, but I feel more invigorated watching Claire tackling these brilliant expeditions. There is also something very honest about every video I have watched. Mistakes are recognised, plans changed and fears faced when needs be. That is why I think they are inspirational, because it is a demonstration of how anyone can overcome obstacles in their way just by thinking and pushing through.
