  • Whether it’s enforcing a late cancellation with grace, even when you worry the client will get angry, or taking deposits to ensure you’re collecting cash and keeping your books full (without turning potential clients off), having boundaries and clear, non-emotional policies is SO key to running a successful business.
Thankfully, salon software and systems exist to make these awkward encounters much easier to handle, because they can be presented as digital agreements that your clients can ‘Click to Agree’ with.
I’m so excited that we get to learn from Marchelle McKeirnan, VP of Sales at Mangomint about how to navigate awkward conversations about policies and procedures with clients.

I do a non refundable 50% deposit that goes towards the total of the service. I don’t charge a cancellation fee or no show fee, the client just forfeits their deposit

So you do that with all your services? I do full face and body waxing, and then tons more stuff at my spa. Would I do that even for a $10 lip wax?

@@louisekbl4 When they choose to prebook they pay the deposit as well, i have my POS system set at 50% and I have a “deposit” item with variations to match all my services. I don’t have to do any math or remember anything since everyone pays a deposit. Those who don’t prebook before they leave, they just pay the remaining 50% of their service.

Hi there! This is definitely not my wheelhouse, Marchelle is the expert in this area. But based on our conversation about being "choosy" about filtering that clients that make it into your chair, you might want to have a talk with this client to see if they're really a good fit for your business. You want to make sure that you're respecting your time as well.
