Hi Kia! I just made this costume and attached the diamonds like a traditional appliqué. I used tracing paper for the placement of the four diamonds, attached the interfacing like you did on the spandex, and then sewed the shape of all four diamonds THEN cut out around them to get them right where they should be. If you look up appliqués on embroidery machines, the steps are the same, you’re just free handing the diamond stitch.
@@KiaSangria Just need to remember to mock up more than I think - I tried M7217 about a year or so ago and it fitted almost perfectly everywhere except the sleeves turning out really baggy.
@@PinkThorn242 remember that when cutting a pattern the size should be 1 size down from your usual measurements. I went with 1 size smaller for this pattern that way the spandex could actually stretch.
@@Deliaexplainsitall6745 yeah I wouldn't because this costume needs to be able to stretch around your body. Is it the slick feeling of spandex you hate? There's also PVC which has a learning curve.
@@KiaSangria yeah, it's the slick feeling it makes me want to crawl out of my skin 😅 thank you so much for sharing the information and making this videos! it's really helpful i'll look up that material
I love the fabrics you chose for this- that metallic red is gorgeous!
Thank you so much! It's from Spandex House NYC. I originally went looking for a solid color but then I saw this and fell in love instantly!!
I ordered the pattern yesterday. I'm putting together a Harley suit for a performance in May and I have been looking for a video just like this!
Wowwwwww I'm so happy I could help! If you're on Instagram I would LOVE to see how yours turns out!

Hi Addie thank you so much for this!! I do plan on making this piece again with a sexy pvc spandex so this comment is right on time!
So I'm not the most confident girl when it comes to working with or wearing spandex but this is really making me want to try making my own suit.
You really should try! Spandex is really forgiving as well since it needs to be smaller than your actual measurements. Do you have a sewing machine?
@@KiaSangria Yeah, I have a sewing machine and a serger already (although it's been a couple of years since I used either so I'm rusty as hell).
@@PinkThorn242 well let's get you back on them! M7269 by mccalls is a simple spandex bodysuit pattern that can be adapted in many ways!

would this pattern still work correctly with a thicker fabric?
i hate the feeling of spandex 😅
As long as the fabric is a stretch fabric you will have no issues! What type of fabric were you thinking to use?
@@KiaSangriasomething leather adjacent?
it sounds like that might not be the best plan though lol
